George Daniels: A Master Watchmaker & His Art By: Michael Clerizo
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Master watchmaker and inventor George Daniels (1926-2011) was regarded as the finest exponent of his craft in the world. Over the course of his career he laboriously constructed twenty-five mechanical watches using antiquated tools and creating almost every component by hand. Each is a work of great originality and exceptional beauty, and his creations are appreciated as milestones in the art of watchmaking. While admired for their lucidity of appearance and unadorned dials, Daniels's watches feature a raft of exquisite complications, such as chronographs, thermometers and power reserve indicators. His more intricate designs also incorporate perpetual calendars and minute repeaters, as well as indictors displaying mean solar and sidereal time, the age and phases of the moon, and the equation of time. Most significant of all Daniels's contributions to the field of mechanical horology is his revolutionary invention: the co-axial escapement. This, the first noteworthy advance in practical watch design since Thomas Mudge's lever escapement of 1754, helped to save a mechanical watch industry in danger of being overwhelmed by mass-produced quartz wristwatches. Detailed photographs of all of Daniels's unique watches (both dial and movement) can be seen here, along with rare and previously unpublished images from Daniels's own archive of photographs and working drawings. Michael Clerizo worked closely with George Daniels in the preparation of this book, the artist recounting episodes from his life and career over their innumerable conversations at his home on the Isle of Man. That biography helps ensure the book is a fitting and authentic tribute to the greatest watchmaker of the modern era.

San Juan Caspistrano 115 Volts 60 Cycles 5 Watts Model D8. I plugged the Clock in and the Cat's eyes moves back in forth and it's tail sways. I had it plugged in for a good while and it keeps very slow time as it only moved about 25 minutes in a 2 hour span so it's an issue that would have to be looked into. As you can probably see in the photos, a few of it's jewels are missing as well. One it's left eye, one on it's top right and left paw, two on it's right paw, 3 around the center portion around the hands and one it's minute hand. There is a few missing on it's tail and most of the felt in between the jewels is worn off. There is a few extra loose jewels that were in the box and will be included for you to use. The plastic back of the Clock near the top has a little bit of bow to it around it's edges. Maybe it's just not properly set in but I've left it as is. Noticed a small split to the plastic on the inside portion of hour hand. Box to the Clock is solid, intact and has nice color. Due to the aboved mentioned Clock will be sold as is so if you have additional questions or need more photos please ask in advance. Buyer to pay shipping and insurance will be included.

The Self-winding Watch: 18th - 21st Century By: Jean-luc Sabrier
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. It has been over sixty years since Eugene Jaquet and Alfred Chapuis's History of the Self-Winding Watch was published in 1952. This new book by Jean-Claude Sabrier exemplifies the increasingly scientific and methodical procedure adopted by researchers and historians since the 1960's. This approach has made it possible to precisely determine the true origin of the watches sold throughout Europe as well as in the Middle East, Asia, and the United States. This book is the result of years of in-depth and systematic research into period archives by well-known specialist and expert Jean-Claude Sabrier. He has carefully examined correspondence, minutes of meetings, account books, patents, and other important original documents. They shed new light on the companies and workshops that produced self-winding watches in the Neuchatel region, where the absence of guild regulations meant that watchmakers rarely signed their work, as well as elsewhere in Switzerland and in England, France, and Germany. The book additionally features illustrations and descriptions of many hitherto unknown watches.

How To Make A Super Sensitive Micro Drill Press By: Robert Porter
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This is a reference book intended for those who enjoy the hobby of clock to .032 (.1 to .8 mm) range, and also solves two problems common to drilling very small holes - namely, that an ordinary drill press is not sensitive enough for the operator to feel the cutting action of the drill. And, that the small drill does not turn fast enough to be as effective as it could be. This drill press is very sensitive, and spins the drill in a range from 12,000 to 30,000 rpm with the recommended power supply. We also show how to make the micro drills, and how to make sure the spindle and drill are as concentric and axially aligned as we can make them. X and Y slides also provide a means to accurately position the work for drilling. Although this micro drill press is designed with the watch and clock maker, model maker, or other highly skilled artisans needing a way to drill small holes in mind, it can easily be scaled up for larger work. Component sources are also listed. You can make this little gem with a couple of pieces of aluminum bar stock from a hardware store, some 4-40 screws, and a few other off-the-shelf components.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The mechanical anniversary clock, also known as the 400-day clock or torsion pendulum clock, is one of the most popular clocks ever invented. Anniversary clocks are recognisable by the decorative balls beneath the dial that rotate one way and then the other. To house the attractive mechanism, every style of clock case has been used although perhaps the most endearing is the glass dome. The dials, hands and ornamentation have also varied steadily over the last century. Called the anniversary clock because it needed winding only once a year, it has carried on into the days of no winding at all.

Treasures Of Vacheron Constantin: A Legacy Of Watchmaking Since 1755
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This sumptuous book brings to life the rich past and the landmark creations of one of the world's great watchmakers. Founded in the Swiss city of Geneva in 1755 by the gifted craftsman and businessman Jean-Marc Vacheron, Vacheron Constantin is the oldest watch manufacturer in the world with an uninterrupted history. Its phenomenal rise to an international reputation of the highest standing in turn throws light on the global success of the great Swiss watchmaking tradition. The book traces the principal milestones in the company's history: its founding during the Age of Enlightenment; the successive generations of the Vacheron family; the association in 1819 with Francois Constantin, who opened up the North American market to the company; the transformational relationship with the inventor Georges-Auguste Leschot; and the company's subsequent international recognition and expansion. Through an array of glorious illustrations, it presents Vacheron Constantin's historical collections, while highlighting the creations of the craftsmen who contribute to the technical excellence of its timepieces--the master-watchmakers--and the artisans who transform them into genuine objets d'art-- the master engravers, guillocheurs, jewelers and enamelers.

Yes, I would rate the fob and all the hardware as excellent antique condition. Can't say the same for the black silk that holds it - that is worn and frayed on the crossbar that hangs below the swivel. The sturdy swivel is marked on the inside as B.F.S.& Co. The fob would make a wonderful pendant if you can't replace the silk.

A locket fob! Turned cornerwise, this one is 5/8 inch square with a teeny, tiny diamond in the center. Wouldn't this look great on a neck chain? Ibe image shows it open and another shows a shadow in the goldfill - but it is on the back only.
Schatz & Sohne 400 Day Vintage Anniversary Clock, W Keys, Etc.
Semi-antique, One year Anniversary clock with original key by Schatz two jewels is stamped on the back. This fascinating time piece still works, although it had been retired many years ago. Appears to be brass with a plastic dome. Measures 6 ½ inches tall x about 5 inches across the base, with 3 round feet for leveling. The suspension wire is intact and is currently being locked by a switch under the base. When released the pendulum does float freely, allowing the 4 interior weights to rotate smoothly in a horizontal pattern ticking away the time. There are several scratches on the plastic dome, but from a distance they are not that noticeable. It was bought in 1967, by my mother for an anniversary. It has been in my family since then. Update: I just found the original envelope # 11003, containing details of sale, foil emblem, instructions, a 2nd key AND an extra suspension wire. White in the center of the blue book is reflection from flash. Book is in good condition; red envelope shows some wear. Buyer to pay for shipping by USPS Priority with Delivery Confirmation, 5 lbs. from 06068. #481

Very nice late Victorian black slate and green marble mantel clock. Made by the British United Clock Co Ltd, Birmingham, England. It has the pretty enamel face that all B.U.C. clocks seem to have, with gilded metal outer ring. The slate has an engraved flower design to the corners of the case, with green marble side pillar detailing. Hinged door to rear. Clock measures 28.5 cm high, 22.5 cm wide and 13.3 cm deep (11.1/4 inches by 9 inches by 5.1/2 inches). It has a few areas of damage to the case: there is a chip diagonally across the rear top right-hand corner, and a shallow chip to the top edge of the same side. Also a chip to the underneath foot edge rear of side. Have not had this clock overhauled but it appears to be working well, and has ticked away all week. It's an 8 day movement. However, it needs regulating as it runs slow and the chime is out of sequence. It chimes the hour and the half hour. All together, a very good clock. Comes with pendulum and key. Very heavy, probably not a good one to ship overseas.

Offered is a Child's Mickey Mouse Wristwatch. Watch was made by US Time and I believe it to be from the 1950's. I had the Watching running for over 12 hours and it keeps pretty accurate time. Outstretched it measures a little over 7 in. in length. The leather on the back side of the band is a little worn. The is also a couple same tears to the red vinyl plastic. One located just below the red latch and the other is a break on one side where the metal latch would be connected. The face of the Watch has some scratching. Not to noticable when looked on directly but when held at an angle against light you can see it more. Watch would make a nice addition to one's Mickey Mouse collection. Buyer to pay shipping.
