Well preserved Carson City dollar with most of its luster present, minor tarnishing in a few places. Features and lettering clearly defined. This historic coin is a valuable memento of an era in American history when pioneers were challenging the est. The silver in this dollar was mined from the rich Comstock Lode, discovered in the mountains near Carson City, Nevada. The Carson City Mint was established there in 1870, and although it was in existence for a mere 24 years, it produced many coins ehich have endured as collector's items, among them the 13 piece Mortan dollar series of 1878-1893. Their link with an historic period in our nation's history gives these dollars an added appeal. This coin is a specimen of the Morgan dollar, containing ninety percent silver, which somehow survived the massive coin melts of the early 1900's. They were discovered by a Treasury audit in 1964, after nearly a century of obscurity in the vaults. This issuance by General Services Administration of the last of the Government's holdings of ninety percent silver dollars will serve for millions of Americans as cherished mementos of our nation's history. 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar, Sealed, Beautiful Mint Cond
Professionally plastic sealed Morgan dollar with full luster present, details sharp, minimum of surface marks. Well worthy of any coin collection. The Morgan Dollar is a silver United States dollar coin. The dollars were minted from 1878 to 1904 and again for one more year in 1921. The Morgan Dollar is named after its designer, George T. Morgan, who designed the obverse and reverse of the coin. Morgan's monogram appears near Lady Liberty's neck on the obverse. The dollar was authorized by the Bland-Allison Act of 1878. It has a fineness of .900, giving a total silver content of 0.77344 troy ounces (24.057 grams) per coin. The Comstock Lode, the greatest silver strike in history, was discovered in Nevada in the late 1850s. The strike put downward pressure on silver prices worldwide. In 1878 Congress passed the Bland-Allison Act which required the Treasury Department to purchase large amounts of silver, and to strike it as coins. For reasons of economy, the Treasury chose to strike the silver as dollars. When the dollar was minted in 1878, it was the first dollar issued for American commercial use since the last Seated Liberty Dollar of 1873. The Trade Dollar was minted during this time period but was for trade in the orient. The dollar was continuously minted until 1904 when the supply of dollars in circulation was high and there was an absence of silver bullion. Then in 1918, the Pittman Act called for over 270 million coins to be melted for silver content. In 1921, the coinage of the Morgan Dollar resumed for that year and was replaced by the Peace Dollarcommemorative that would become standard issue. Since 1921, many Morgan Dollars have been melted, mostly when silver prices escalate and they yield silver bullion. Item being used to raise funds for surgery of senior pastor who is suffering diabetic blindness in his left eye. Open for best offers.

1885 Morgan Silver Dollar High Quality Ms Coin
Minor imperfections at most. In my opinion anywhere from MS 65 to MS 67. A worthy addition to any serious coin collection. In 1921, the coinage of the Morgan Dollar resumed for that year and was replaced by the Peace Dollar commemorative that would become standard issue. Since 1921, many Morgan Dollars have been melted, mostly when silver prices escalate and they yield silver bullion. Item being used to raise funds for surgery of senior pastor who is suffering diabetic blindness in his left eye. Open for best offers.
