David Winter Devon Combe Devoncombe West Country Mib
David Winter DEVON COMBE West Country Collection 1986. In original box, with original certificate of authenticity. Condition is like new. Amazing detail, no defects, chips or damage. Size: 5 x 5 3/4 x 5 inches . Devon Combe is David's interpretation of the home of a West Country boat builder, nestling in a sheltered spot by the water front. The West Country has a long and proud history of shipbuilding. The construction of boats and ships grew up as an inevitable part of the whole seafaring tradition in the area. In the old days all these bustling centers of shipbuilding would be crowded with sail lofts, timber yards, anchor smithies, hemp works and working shops turning out block and tackle, chains and nails. Several local yards used to produce really large ocean-going vessels. As far back as 1568 records show that a 250-ton ship was launched from Appledore in Devon. Large indeed. The famous Golden Hind, in which Sir Francis Drake set out to sail the world in 1577, was only 100 tons. Like many other traditional skills, boat building was often passed down through the generations of a family
David Winter Audrey's Tea Room 1991 Mint Original Box
DAVID WINTERS , Audrey's Tea Room .Measures 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches . Its in excellent mint condition, a wonderful piece, named after Davids favorite painter. It comes in original box, never displayed, with COA Audrey's Tea Room is where afternoon tea can be taken at its best--scones with jam and fresh cream, cucumber sandwiches and a selection of cakes and biscuits, plus a fresh pot of perfectly made tea sipped from bone China cups. Customers sit at mahogany tables around the panoramic parlor window, conversations bubbling gently over this and that and steered occasionally by the sight of someone in the street outside. On warm summer days there are tables in the tiny garden beyond the steps. The atmosphere is refined and delicate, with quietly spoken waitresses wearing crisply starch aprons and caps, efficiently supervised by the proprietress herself. The name Audrey was chosen by John Hine and David Winter as a tribute to Audrey White, the very first painter of David Winter Cottages, who retired in 1991. Audrey would be at home in the atmosphere of a Tea Room, and dedicating this piece to her is a most appropriate choice.
