A beaded souvenir pillow handcrafted by Native Americans. This is the type that used to sold as souvenirs to tourists. A 6 pointed star with beadwork of crossed American flags and beaded loops surrounding the edge. One loop is missing. It needs a cleaning and does have a tear in the fabric on the back side. Sold as found as I am uncertain as to how to clean it. I believe it is from the '30's era. Please view images carefully.

This breast shield was made by Native Americans. I believe the base construction is of deer hide. Measures 21 in. diameter. Decorated with abalone shell buttons, beads, Leather, triangular pieces and what appears to be a red vegetable dye painted design. The back has bent wood for frame and handles. In good, undamaged condition. I'm not familiar or knowledgeable enough to describe the significance of the decorations but this woould make a fantastic wall hanging. The tribe of Chippewa was predominant in my area of Minnesota so perhaps this is of their heritage? Acquired from an estate sale near Mille Lacs Lake, Mn. I think this would be from the 1940's era, perhaps earlier. Due to its size it must be shipped usps parcel post.
I believe this bead covered gourd is Native American made. Perhaps sold as a souvenir? Possibly from the '40's-'50's era. Stands 7.5 in. tall. It measures approximately 4.5 in. diameter at the widest part. Beads are fine, tiny and all in good shape, I believe. Cork fits into the top so would have been a container for some kind of liquid.

Bernard Tuglamena Katexac, (1922-1997) born on King Island, Alaska, resided in Nome, Alaska Bernard was a noted Inuit/Eskimo native artist. He did many beautiful drawings and created prints from same. He also scrimshawed walrus ivory. This tusk shows many facets of life near and on the sea and depicts life as it was on the King Island. He shows whale hunting and butchering the carcass, seal hunting, crab fishing, walrus hunting, walrus in the water, sleding, a community house readying for a celebration and a view of one of the houses on stilts on a hill, so unique to the King Island. signed and dated 1973 A little info on King Island; The island is about 1 mile (1.6 km) wide. It was once the winter home of a group of about 200 Inupiat who called themselves Aseuluk. The Aseuluk spent their winters engaging in subsistence hunting on King Island and their summers engaging in similar activities on the mainland near the location of present-day Nome, Alaska. After the establishment of Nome, the islanders began to sell intricate carvings to residents of Nome during the summer. By 1970, all King Island people had moved to Nome year-round. In 2005 and 2006 the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded a research project which brought a few King Island natives back to the Island. Some participants had not been back to the island in 50 years. The King Island Community eagerly awaits the projects results. The island was discovered by Capt. James Cook in 1778 and named for Lt. James King, a member of his party. It is part of the Bering Sea unit of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.

This unique bank is handcarved and displays what appears to be a swastika but I have been informed it is a symbol used by Native Americans, especially when accompanied by a leaf shape. Vintage Elk Brand Moccasins, Made in Canada, Childs Size 3. This is really neat find, estimate the age on them to be around the 1960's, this is just an estimate based on the condition and our knowledge of vintage clothing, they could be older or slightly newer! These moccasins are leather with elk hide top over the top of the foot/toe area, they are beaded with red, white and black beads. The inside has a fuzzy lining, they marked on the bottom with an elk along with Elk Brand, Fait au Canada, Made in Canada. They are in very good condition, given the age, there is some wear around the edges to the elk hid, also some wear on the inside lining, they have a fringed side that is curling on in places, probably just need some leather oil and they are missing the tie string which is an easy replacement. Due to the age they are being sold as a collectible and are not recommended for wear. Lovely addition to your collection!
