Jumeau Book By: Francois Theimer, Florence Theriault
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Table of Contents: - In the last quarter of the 19th century the name 'Jumeau' was synonymous with the French bebe. A remarkable synchronism of artistry, innovation and marketing, the bebe was both plaything and art object. In its every aspect - from design to construction to presentation - the Jumeau doll was flawless. The credit for this work goes to two men - Pierre-Francois Jumeau (the father) and Emile-Louis Jumeau (the son) who founded and led the firm for nearly fifty years. The Jumeau book traces the development and history of the company, providing tantalizing biographical information, as well, from interviews with the Jumeau descendants. In well-detailed technical chapters, the book - for the first time ever - identfies and dates the various Jumeau models, pinpoints rarities, and explains curiosities. Outstanding color photographs, original documents, historical photographs and a 'ready reference' directory make this book easy to use as well as a visual joy.

Adorable little doll whit real feather wings on her back. She is made of Bisque with glass eyes and eyelashes that look real. She has movable arms and legs. She has several marks but not that tell me who made her. She was made in 2000. She stands 6 tall.
She was handmade up here, Northern MN by a local artist. She is a representative of the old Scandinavian people of the area. I think she is Lena's mother. She is missing her stand but this does not make her any less unique as all the dolls from North Country are.
Sven and Ollie's sister is named Lena or so the story goes up north here. Or was that Sven's wife is Lena? From the Scandinavians of the area we have all kinds of stories with Sven Ollie and Lena. Now a local area artist has made a doll to represent Lena. She is dressed in traditional Scandinavian clothing. Not certain just what her face is made of but it is hand painted. Clothing is hand sewn. She has a stand and the original tag on her wrist. So if you are never able to get to the far northeast corner of Minnesota, at least you can own a piece of the local folk lore.

Pair Bradley Big Eyes Oriental Asian Girl Boudoir Dolls
This type of big-eyed, fancy coiffed boudoir doll was very popular with teenage and pre-teen girls in the 1970s. This unusual twin or double Asian girl doll set has no tags but those multi-colored large eyes are unmistakable - they're Bradley dolls with unusual dimensional hair eyelashes. I actually think these are a little older than the 70s due to their attention to detail and authenticity in the clothing and quality of materials used. Mounted on a blue painted wood base, the Oriental girls are about 17 tall. One has short hair with a tied chiffon headband and has a neat woven rattan basket with red flowers slung over her back. The other doll is wearing a kimono-type gown with an apron and holds a smaller flower basket (currently pinned in place but should be held in her hands). She has a long braid in her hair tied with a red silk ribbon. The dolls' bodies are stockinette-covered with poseable hands and arms. They both have long, thick dimensional eyelashes (not painted on) and their satin jacquard clothing is decorated with woven-in floral and Oriental symbols. The hairdos are in excellent condition with only a few strands out of place. The dolls have no tears or staining but there are some minor issues with the glue that was used on the dolls and their clothing. Some areas have come unglued and left discoloration where the glue was. The most noticeable is to the turquoise vest where it was glued closed beneath the buttons. There's also some faint glue discoloration in the bodice areas, just below the hairlines, and one doll's finger where it was apparently glued to the back or shoulder of her friend. Two sleeves need to be re-tacked or glued at the wrists as they tend to want to slide up. The vest, sleeves and finger can easily be reglued or pinned to hide the discoloration, the other areas are very light and virtually unnoticeable.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. In this remarkable book, costumer and researcher Marianne Burke presents a richly illustrated study of head wear in the twenty-year period between 1855-1875. Her detailed discussion of the development of hair and headwear styles throughout this era is accompanied by period photographs known as cartes de visite, as well as numerous illustrations from fashion periodicals of the time such as Godeys Ladys Book, Harpers Bazar and Petersons Magazine. It was during these years that the luxurious French lady dolls, so ardently collected today, assumed their great popularity. Collectors of these dolls have long been frustrated by the lack of accessible instructions and patterns for head wear for their elegant models. This is the first book to teach methods of constructing historically correct hats, caps and bonnets for French fashion dolls of the mid-to-late nineteenth century. The methods of assembly taught pertain to styles for dolls of more contemporary periods, as well. Ms. Burke offers instruction in the practical matters of millinery construction; chapters on tools, materials, making bonnet frames and working with straw and felt provide step-by step directions and culminate in the presentation of twelve fully illustrated patterns for making hats, caps and bonnets for lady dolls. Doll costumers, restorers and collectors will find this invaluable compendium an essential resource, while lovers of fashion history will revel in its visual delights.
