GUNSIGHT ANTIQUES

A wonderful display item for the 19th century textile enthusiast, this MILLERS RIVER SHEETING marking stamp emanates from the Millers River Mfg. textile mill located in Massachusetts. (see: Civil War years Mass. business directories as well as The New England Business Directory by Adams, Sampson & Co.) Located in a cradle of 19th century water powered manufacturing of all manner of goods, Millers River Sheeting was best known in this period for production of cotton sheeting and printing cloth. This textile hand stamp measures approximately 12 X 14 ½ inches and is a stout 3/4 inch thick. Constructed in the mid-19th century fashion with good evidence of hand chiseling, classic iron hardware and retaining lots of the old blue powder marking paint this hand stamp would have been applied to the outer sheet of large bundles or bales of sheeting destined for textile printing and fabrication mills. Rarely seen outside of dedicated museum collections and even then seldom found, this period original from the heart of New England's 19th century textile region will make a decorative addition to any textile grouping.
