Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: Late 1800's
Condition: Good
Manufacturer: E.C. ATKINS & CO INDIANAPOLIS IND.
This is a very nice clean rarely seen Atkins 5 1/2 teeth per inch rip saw! It has the "E.C. ATKINS & COMPANY INDIANAPOLIS" etch on the blade (the complete etch wording can be seen), and the "E.C. ATKINS & CO INDIANAPOLIS IND. PAT. DEC. 27.1887 AAA" mark and logo on the handle medallion. This is a very nice quality saw, sharp and set, ready to use condition, with no rust, some minor staining noted, some minor pitting noted on less than 2% of the total metal surface area, and a nice straight 26" long blade. The blade is straight and clean, smooth. However, we do note that there are 3 missing teeth, in the area just in front of the handle. I have tested this saw, and it will cut very well with the 18" length of full teeth in it's present condition. The handle is very nice with the original varnish about 90% intact overall, and a nice floral leaf type carved pattern on the medallion side. It has good handle nuts, and no cracks, no chips, very little wear, about as nice as any I've seen from the late 1800's era. The handle alone is worth my asking price since we see so few in anywhere near this nice of condition. I had considered having the teeth re-cut, as I do have a man with a machine to do it, but he says that these 1800's saw were more brittle, and recommends several re-sharpenings to reach the full teeth once again, in other word, you can use the saw as it is since you could A really nice saw, so rarely seen in this nice condition these days.
