    Child's Primitive Woven Rocker
This is a child's primitive woven rocker. At first glance it looks like a natural wicker but when you look closely you will find that the material used is different. I am dating this from the 1930's but I'm really not sure...it may be quite a bit older. The ropes are made of some sort of a fiber...my guess is jute but again, only a guess....that is twisted around wire, giving it both strength and allowing it to be bent in the proper shape. The ropes are attached to the wooden parts of the chair with nails that are partially nailed into the seat of the chair and then each nail is bent over two of the rope ends, holding them in place. There is a number 427 stamped onto the bottom of the seat of the chair. I have searched the internet and my price guides for something similar and have not been able to find anything. The rocker is in usuable condition and is nice and sturdy but the fabric on the seat is worn and the front ends of the runners look like the family puppy has used them as a chew toy. Be sure and check the photos carefully as they are part of this description and can give you a better idea of the condition and quality of this item than I can with the written word. The chair measures 21 1/2 tall, 21 wide, and 20 7/8 front to back at the runners. Happy Collecting !!!!
