Baseless Wine Glass, Smoke Cut To Clear Crystal, Germany
Baseless Wine Glass, Smoke Cut To Clear Crystal, Germany. When I first saw this baseless wine glass, I thought it was a bell without a clapper. The design intrigued me, as did the wonderful coloration. I have found out that it is actually a wine glass from Germany, which was traditionally used in the wine cellar for tastings, and has no base so that the customer would have to drink their wine up, then turn the glass over to put it down. This wine glass is in fine condition with a tiny chip out of the bottom of one of the cuts on the stem, as if the cutter hit an air bubble. It has gold trim at the mouth and a wide band of diamonds cut around the bottom of the bowl. It stands 5.75 to the top of its paneled stem and with its lustrous smokey gray color and floral cutting, it's just so pretty as a display piece, you don't even have to use it. Our list price includes priority insured shipping to the continental USA.

Silver Overlay Cream & Sugar, Caprice-silver City ?
This intriguing pair of individual open sugar and creamer, both have a THICK silver overlay in a pattern of leaf and thistle. The lower part of both pieces looks like Cambridge Caprice with half-circles, fans, and 4 squarish feet. But the upper section is different: plain top edges with silver (or platinum?) overlay, and rounded handles, more suggestive of Silver City Glass. These seem to be a combo Cambridge Caprice- Silver City product, but I could not find this specific set anywhere and the date is uncertain; apparently silver overlay was popular until the 1930's or 1940's. There is a hint of wear under the feet, suggesting age, i.e., not new. These are in pristine condition except for one small shallow flake off the design of the sugar near one of the fans. I mention platinum because there is no evidence of tarnish as one might expect for silver; overlay is bright, shiny, with no evidence of wear. Measure: creamer is 4 ¼ inches tall; sugar is 3 ¾ inches tall. Buyer to pay for shipping by USPS Priority with Delivery Confirmation, 2 1/2 lbs. from 06068. #590
