We are pleased to offer this Northwood's Custard Grape and Cable pattern Nutmeg Plate. Northwood's Grape and Cable pattern c. 1910. It features detailed leaves and tendrils, along with grapes. Running along the outside edge of the design is a cable. This plate is made of custard glass and has the classic Northwood nutmeg stain in the center. The exterior of the plate has a basket weave design. The plate is 7 1/2 in diameter. L.G. Wright (1937-1999) did buy the molds from Northwood and they did used the original mark for a short time predominately on carnival glass. The patterns they used were Paneled Grape, Grape and Cable, Grape Delight and Wild Rose. During this time L.G. Wright produced the Grape and Cable in the butter dish. This plate was manufactured using uranium salts. When tested with a black light it does fluoresce. The use of uranium in glass was very common during the time period Northwood Glass was in production. Uranium was discontinued from use during World War II and it was many years before that uranium was again allowed in glass production. The inimitable Northwood Custard (Uranium oxide rich) glass formula was brought to the attention of the world at the 1902 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York.
