This one of a kind, hand made Victorian necklace is superb to say the least. The jet beads hang 19 inches and hold a 3 by 2-1/4 pendant. Each piece of Whitby jet is faceted and strung on wire attached to a metal base. There are two pieces of jet missing; one small round bead on the outer edge at 2 o'clock, and the point of the horn on the other lower side. There is so much detail and shine to the pendant that the damage is only notice when inspected closely. The center of attention are the two gutta percha cameos framed with square facet jet, and a pinwheel just below. The necklace has been re-strung so it will wear without worry of breakage. Since this is impossible to compare with anything for a value, I have taken into account other pieces from the 1800's that are also unique and made of the same material to come up with an estimated value of $1500.

According to the extensive Warman's Vintage Jewelry Price Guide, the Art Deco bracelets were made of Sterling, Pot Metal or Rhodium. I am guessing this one is rhodium since it is not marked Sterling, and is much shinier. Its a nice size, both with its 7-1/2 inch length and the large width of 1-1/2 inch. Typical of most of these Art Deco rhinestone encrusted pieces, there are dead rhinestones. I'd guess 1/4 of them being the case. With hundreds of stones the dark ones add beauty and give credibility to the fact that it is nearly 100 years old. The bracelet closes with two latches over clasps and is secured with a safety chain. Each of the eight sections is linked with baguette cut stones. Book value is $365, but current market value has dropped to $250.

Often overlooked by the novice vintage jewelry collector in favor of Miriam Haskell, De Mario costume jewelry is relatively rare and enjoys high prices in the collectible market. Only in business from 1945 to 1960 due to Robert De Mario's decision to retire, its rarity alone is not responsible for the high prices. The jewelry is treasured by collectors who recognize it's high quality and beautiful designs, and who are unwilling to part with pieces at any price. Made of faux glass gray pearls and Aurora Borealis rhinestones, topped on filigree findings, with both the necklace and bracelet having pearl and rhinestone dangles. The necklace is adjustable with its Miriam Haskell style flower hook (it is the only piece that is not marked) and measures 17 inches long. The clip earrings are 1.5 inch, and the double strand bracelet is 7-1/4 inch. This demi parure is missing only the brooch. You'll look like royal elegance in this set. Book value is $1200. Condition: It is in very good condition with touches of normal wear spots; one elongated pearl missing from one clip earring (I actually like it better that way and would remove one from the other, although it is not noticeable), a couple flea pricks to the pearl finish on the bracelet and I found a few spots of verdigris that came off as I spot cleaned. I didn't go over every inch, but those are the flaws I noticed during inspection. Feel free to make an offer in the Archive section.

There are two areas where this opal piece was repaired when mounted for a necklace piece. This natural opal was carved in Australia and set with gold jeweler's wire in the United States. Includes original felt gift box that is marked Finest Australian Opal. Fleur de Lis has been a popular motif every since it was introduced. It's surprising the old pieces don't come up on the market very often. This lovely onyx pendant, measuring 1-3/8 inch, is topped with a small Fleur de Lis that is peppered with tiny seed pearls that are all original to the piece. It's set in a twisted gold plate frame that looks like sterling vermeil. The chain is unusual and has etched links. Judging from the design and material used, I am placing this in the Victorian era from about the 1880's. Current market has dropped from $585 to $385. Feel free to make an offer in the Archive section.
