•  Click to return to Tutorial Table of Contents  •

Keep in mind that you can't remove a category until its empty.  You can use the batch change feature on your inventory maintenance menu to move all the items to a different category.  Don't know what batch change is?  Click here for the tutorial titled "Changing Multiple Items In the Same Category"  When the category is empty, follow the directions below to remove it.

  1. Go to your Members Pages (http://www.tias.com/members/).  If your members page is not currently displayed, click this link Members Pages to open it in a new window so you can toggle back and forth between your maintenance page and this tutorial.

  2. Click on the link for "Maintain Categories" You will see a page that looks like this:

  3. Now locate the category you want to remove.  The categories are listed alphabetically.  If you have more than 50 categories, use the selector at the top of the page to go to the group where the category is located.

  4. When you've found the category you want to remove, look to see if there are any items in it (at the field labeled 'Items').  If there is still anything there, you will need to move these things to another category. Click on the category name to display all the items in the category, then use the batch change feature to move all the items to a different category.  Don't know what batch change is?  Click here for the tutorial titled "Changing Multiple Items In the Same Category"

  5. When you are ready to remove the category, click the button next to it.

  6. This will take you to another screen that looks like this:

Note: if there are items still in the category, you won't see these buttons.  Instead, you'll see a warning message that says "WARNING!  xx active item(s) in this category!" Use the link provided and move the items to another category.  When you've done so, the buttons shown above will appear.

  1. If the category is empty and you're sure you want to remove it, click the button and the category will be immediately and permanently eliminated.

  2. If you are planning to do other maintenance in your inventory, continue to do so.

  3. After you've made all your changes, be sure to update your pages, since changes to your categories change the way your main store page looks!
