NOTE: This is pre-order for a new release. This book is expected to be available for shipment in late June / early July. Date subject to change at publisher's discretion. Please do not combine it with other purchases as this will delay shipping of those titles that we do actually have in stock. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Volume five of the Battle Colors series shifts to the Pacific Theater of Operations with a focus on the Fifth, Seventh, Eleventh and Thirteenth U.S. Army Air Forces. As with previous volumes the primary emphasis of this work is group/squadron emblems in addition to combat aircraft tactical markings. Extensive research has resulted in the most complete assemblage of World War II era AAF/PTO combat insignia yet compiled. As in all Battle Colors volumes, these insignia images include both authorized as well as unofficial versions, featuring common variations representative of the time. Historical period photographs depicting the applications of unauthorized emblems are included in the text, providing empirical proof as to their existence and use. All emblems have been carefully recreated to reflect, as nearly as possible, the original artwork of their designers. 923 images

Gau Decorations Of Hitler's Germany By: Craig Gottlieb
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Using history as a backdrop, author Craig Gottlieb offers a study of Gau Ehrenzeichen, or District Honor Badges. Although useful both as the first-ever collector's manual devoted exclusively to the subject, this study can also help historians understand the formative years of the National Socialist German Worker's Party (NSDAP) between 1923 and 1939. Drawing on his knowledge not only of the artifacts themselves, but on a keen understanding of the period, Gottlieb offers a unique view into the pre-war history of Nazi Germany. Using never-before-published photos and drawing from private archives of original specimens of every badge and corresponding award document, Gottlieb answers two important questions: what is a Gau Ehrenzeichen, and why are they relevant to understanding Hitler's rise to power? Over 300 color/bw images

European Bayonets Of The American Civil War By: David Noe, Joseph Serbaroli Jr.
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Perhaps the last great undiscovered treasures of American Civil War militaria are the bayonets made for the countless European muskets and rifles that were imported by both sides in an effort to supplement limited domestic arms production. Often mistaken for valueless junk by previous generations of collectors, we now know that these imported blades are as historical and valuable as any other weapons of the War Between the States. While the acquisition of these weapons is exciting, there are a number of supposed types that were never imported into the U.S. at all...even though they are regularly sold as such. Using 100's of detailed photos, the authors de-mystify this topic, providing clear explanations of what is right and what is wrong.

Antique Us Ross Early Mk I 1905 Ww I Rifle Bayonet Leather Scabbord
A nice early example of the Mk I Canadian Ross Rifle Bayonet which was designed for use on the 303 caliber Ross straight-pull rifle. It has the extended muzzle ring and pinned pommel. The wood grip is marked with US above the Ordinance Department's flaming bomb acceptance mark. The pommel is marked ROSS RIFLE CO., QUEBEC, PATENTED 1907 with various acceptance and/or inspection marks of: 3/347 and 08; a 2 digit date mark of 9-10; the Crown 8 inspector's mark; and the Canadian Proofmark [broad arrow within a circle]. It has the step type crossguard. The leather scabbord/sheath is also marked with the US and flaming bomb stamp. Additional markings include B213B, A?T, AK1, the date 1915 and the Canadian Gov Ownership mark [arrowhead within a circle]. These bayonets were introduced in 1908 and were the first model produced by Ross Rifle. Research indicates that in 1917, only about 20,000 of these bayonets [and rifles] were purchased by the US military to be used for troop training due to rifle and bayonet shortages during WWI. Today, Ross Rifles are fairly scarce as they were scrapped after defects wounded or killed several soldiers who fired them. CONDITION: Blade: blade profile doesn't appear to have been altered and does appear to have factory edge as there are no grinding or file marks; some minor pitting to tip and edge, black residue [possibly dried tar]; Wood Grips: in good condition with only normal use dings/nicks no cracks; Leather Sheath: with some cuts/scrapes missing belt loop, leather is still soft and pliable; General: screws in wood grip are rusty, some pitting/rust on crossguard Questions always welcome. From Normandy To The North Sea 1944-45: Allies In Battledress (Uniforms) By: Jean Bouchery
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Although many of these soldiers had already seen action against the German army since 1939, thousands of volunteers gathered in Great Britain under their national colors and wore the same battledress as their British brothers in arms alongside whom they would fight. Preceded by the heroic French parachutists of the 2e RCP (4th SAS) dropped into the heart of Brittany in the last hours of 5 June 1944, foreign volunteers saw action in Normandy, along the coast of the English Channel, in Belgium, Holland and finally into Germany in the spring of 1945. What were the specific characteristics of these soldiers so ardently motivated by the hope of taking part in the liberation of their motherland? It is the ambition of this book to help the reader discover the answer to this question with a whole host of previously unpublished details such as could only be found in a plethora of books available from specialist bookshops. Whether an amateur historian, collector, modeler or a member of a re-enactment group, the reader will find something of interest in what is, in the end, a 'text book', the fruit of long and painstaking work that makes possible the acquisition of in-depth knowledge of the 'Allies in Battledress'.

Probably British, this steel hand grenade is stamped 1940. Probably a Mills No. 36 MK1. Obviously no longer a weapon, it has no release bar, and possibly not the original pin. Mounted on a round steel base. Quite heavy. Measures about 10 cm high (incl. the base) and the grenade it self is 5.9 cm diameter (4 inches by about 2.3/8 inches). Has surface corrosion, but could probably be removed with a bit of hard work. Traces of khaki green. The base could be replaced with a clean disc. Quite a novelty.

Us Army Infantry Divisions 1943-45, Volume 1: Organisation, Doctrine And Equipment By: Yves J. Bellanger
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. In the first of a three-volume study, the author presents an extremely detailed record of the organization, doctrine and equipment of U.S. Army infantry divisions during the latter part of World War II. The second and third volumes will provide capsule histories for all U.S. Army infantry divisions during this period. After examining the state of the U.S. Army during the 1940-43 period, Yves Bellanger focuses on the 1943-45 period, and presents each of the division's sub-units - from the divisional HQ to an infantry battalion, from the divisional artillery to its combat engineer element. For each, the author examines their organization (down to the lowest level possible), their training and tactical doctrine, in addition to listing all the equipment, vehicles and weapons they were issued with. The first volume concludes with a comprehensive set of appendices, including sample command rosters. A paperback reprint of this critically acclaimed title.- No equivalent book is available which covers the 1943-45 U.S. Army infantry divisions in comparable detail- An extraordinarily detailed guide - lists ALL equipment issued to ALL elements of the infantry division, from an infantry battalion's HQ company, to the division's military police platoon, thus including much information on rear-area units usually ignored or forgotten- Includes a large number of organizational charts, plus detailed sample command rosters- Tactical doctrine is covered in detail, drawing extensively on contemporary US field manuals- The author received extensive assistance from US veterans in writing this book- An essential reference for re-enactors, modelers, wargamers, researchers and anyone who requires a detailed guide to the U.S. Army during the 1943-45 period.

Men-at-arms 383: Colonial American Troops 1610-1774 (3) By: Rene Chartrand
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. From the earliest English settlements the survival of the infant colonies in North America depended upon local militias. Before the mid-18th century royal troops were seldom shipped out from Britain, and the main burden of successive wars with the American Indians, and with Britain's colonial rivals France and Spain, fell upon locally raised units, which also fought alongside the Crown forces during the major operations of the French-Indian War of the 1750s. This final book of a fascinating three-part study covers the militias and provincial troops raised in the Carolinas, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Georgia, Nova Scotia, Hudson's Bay and Quebec Province; and also Rangers, and colors and standards.

Men-at-arms 39: The British Army In North America 1775-83 By: Robin May
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. For sheer guts, the Redcoats' behaviour at Bunker Hill, Saratoga and other bloody encounters has rarely been surpassed. The Americans won, but only just, and then thanks to foreign intervention and a small number of dedicated and valiant patriots who were continually let down by their own people. Robin May's splendid work looks at the British Army that fought in the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783. It details the soldiers who faced the difficulties of campaigning in America along with the gross inefficiency and corruption at home which, along with their generals' often blundering conduct, were as deadly enemies as the Americans.

Warrior 19: British Redcoat 1740-93 By: Stuart Reid
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. During this period, the British army earned itself a formidable reputation as a fighting force. However, due to its role as a police force at home, and demonisation by American propaganda, the army was viewed as little removed from a penal institution run by aristocratic dilettantes. This view, still held by many today, is challenged by Stuart Reid, who paints a picture of an increasingly professional force. This was an important time of change and improvement for the British Army, and British Redcoat 1740-1793 fully brings this out in its comprehensive examination of the lives, conditions and experiences of the late 18th-century infantryman.

Warrior 85: American Colonial Ranger: The Northern Colonies 1724-64 By: Gary Zaboly
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This title examines the development of the Colonial Rangers in this period, and shows how they were taught to survive in the woods, to fight hand-to-hand, to scalp a fallen foe, and to fight across all types of terrain and in all weather conditions. Based on previously unpublished source material, it paints a vivid picture of the life, appearance and experiences of an American colonial ranger in the northern colonies. Covering the battle at Lovewell's Pond in 1725, a watershed event in New England's frontier history, through to King George's War (1740-1748), the rangers were prepared for the final imperial contest for control of North America, the French-Indian War (1754-1763).

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. During the period 1775-78, General Washington commanded three separate armies: the New England Army of 1775; the one-year army of the United Colonies, renamed Army of the United States in July 1776; and the forces established by the Continental Congress to serve for three years from January 1777, or for the duration. In this, the first of two studies by Marko Zlatich (Men-at Arms 290 continues the treatment, covering the period from 1779-83), the systems used by state and Continental authorities to procure clothing materials, the quantities they obtained and the specifications of the uniforms themselves are all examined in detail.

With the exception of the royal marines, who adopted light infantry rank insignia from their earliest days, the Royal Navy was slow to introduce distinguishing rate badges for those serving on the 'lower deck'. In a unique compilation, the insignia worn since the mid-19th century by Royal Naval ratings, Royal Marines, queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service, the Women's Royal Naval Service, the Merchant Navy, Auxiliaries, Volunteers, youth, and other maritime organizations, are brought together in a single volume.

Air Cav: History Of The 1st Cavalry Division In Vietnam 1965-1969 By: Maj J. D. Coleman
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Air Cav: History of the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam is the story of the small, close world of fighting men in action. Supplemented with vivid photographs of the First Cavalry Division's experience in the war and a history of the division, Air Cav contains the memoirs of a fighting team and the recollections of those who tasted the brassy bile of fear, shared the fierce exultation of victory, or were drenched in the dark despair of death. E. B. Roberts, Major General, USA, calls this account more than a history . . . it is the story of men told in words and in pictures, men who have fought valorously and have carried the banners of the First Team proudly.

The Victorians And Edwardians At War By: John Hannavy
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. By the time the first photographs were taken at war in the late 1840s, the idea that the camera cannot lie was already firmly embedded in the Victorian psyche. Truthful in a way the work of the war artist could never be, despite the initially long exposures and cumbersome equipment, cameras have been used to document war ever since the celebrated photographs of Roger Fenton in the Crimea. Through a rich selection of images - many of them never before published - this book tells the story of the photographers who chronicled Britain's Victorian and Edwardian wars and those who fought in them.

The Women's Land Army (Wwii Era) By: Neil R Storey, Molley Housego
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. When war broke out in 1939, the Women's Land Army (WLA) was already organised and ready for action. Women who had served in the WLA in the First World War returned to service with their daughters, ready to fill in for the male labourers sent abroad to fight: livestock was tended, fields were ploughed, harvests were reaped and everything possible was done to keep Britain self-sufficient. Neil R. Storey and Molly Housego here tell the story of the Women's Land Army - how it was organised, what its members did, what training was provided, and the work of the Timber Corps of the WLA, also known as the Lumber Jills . Colourful illustrations of women at work, their uniforms and insignia bring to life the experiences of the ladies who helped keep Britain fed during the Second World War.

Men-at-arms 482: Us 10th Mountain Division In World War Ii By: Gordon L. Rottman
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The 10th was the only US mountain division to be raised in World War II, and still has a high profile, being involved in operations from Iraq to Somalia and from Haiti to Afghanistan. It did not arrive in Europe until winter 1944/45, but then fought hard in the harsh mountainous terrain of Northern Italy. The division was special in a number of ways. Its personnel were selected for physical fitness and experience in winter sports, mountaineering, and hunting, unlike the rest of the infantry. It was highly trained in mountain and winter warfare, including the use of skis and snowshoes, while its organization, field clothing, and some personal equipment also differed from that of the usual infantry division. The division made extensive use of pack-mules, and its reconnaissance unit was horse-mounted, conducting the last horse-mounted charge in US history in April 1945. Featuring full-color artwork and rare photographs, this is the gripping story of the US Army's only mountain division in action during the closing months of World War II.

While those cavalry regiments deployed to the Pacific to fight the Japanese were turned into infantry units, those sent to Europe were employed as light armor in the cavalry's traditional spearhead roles - reconnaissance, the screening of advances and flanks, and the pursuit of beaten enemy forces. Equipped with M8 Greyhound armored cars, M5 Stuart and M24 Chaffee light tanks, and halftracks, these units were designated cavalry groups (mechanized), each c. 1,700 strong and divided into two heavily armed squadrons. They were seldom attached to divisions, but to higher-level corps commands, meaning they could be shifted around quickly and independently and be formed at need into flexible battle groups with armored, infantry, and other units, depending on the mission. Featuring specially drawn full-color illustrations depicting uniforms, insignia, armored vehicles, and tactical scenarios, this is the story of the US cavalry units that led the advance to victory in Europe during World War II.

Men-at-arms 478: The Australian Army In World War I By: Robert Fleming
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The importance of the Australian contribution to the Allied war effort during World War I should never be underestimated. Some 400,000 Australians volunteered for active duty, an astonishing 13 per cent of the entire (white) male population, a number so great that the Australian government was never forced to rely on conscription. Casualties were an astonishing 52 per cent of all those who served, ensuring that the effects of the war would be felt long after the armistice. In particular, their epic endeavour at Gallipoli in 1915 was the nation's founding legend, and the ANZACs went on to distinguish themselves both on the Western Front and in General Allenby's great cavalry campaign against the Turks in the Middle East. Their uniforms and insignia were also significantly different from those of the British Army and provide the basis for a unique set of artwork plates.

Warrior 161: Tunnel Rat In Vietnam By: Gordon L. Rottman
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. In 1965, soon after the first US combat troops had arrived in Vietnam, it was realized that in some areas the Viet Cong had developed vast tunnel complexes in which to hide from the enemy. It was long known that such complexes existed, but it was not realized just how extensive they were in some areas, how important they were to the Viet Cong, and how difficult it was to detect and neutralize them. At first infantrymen volunteered to enter the tunnels armed with only pistols and flashlights - the tunnel runners were born, known to the Australians as tunnel ferrets . Starting as an ad hoc force of infantrymen, combat engineers and chemical troops, it was not long before units were formalized as tunnel exploration personnel and 4-6-man tunnel exploitation and denial teams were created. They came to be known simply as tunnel rats with the unofficial motto Non Gratum Anus Rodentum - Not Worth a Rat's Ass . This title will be based on the personal accounts of those who served in this unique role and will describe the specialist training and equipment, not to mention the tactics and combat experiences, of those who fought an underground war against the Viet Cong in Vietnam.

Fortress 106: Forts Of The War Of 1812 By: Rene Chartrand
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. When war broke out between the United States and Great Britain in 1812, neither side was prepared for the conflict, as evidenced by their respective fortifications. The most sophisticated and modern fortifications were those built by the US Corps of Engineers to protect some of the main port cities. These included Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia, Fort McHenry in Baltimore and Castle William in New York. The British also heavily fortified their main harbor at Halifax and their main center of power at Quebec. However, elsewhere, especially in the interior, fortifications were old, neglected or only hastily erected. The forts at Detroit and Mackinac were much as the British had left them in 1796. This book covers all of the main fortifications of the conflict, those that faced the crashing of guns and those whose intimidation played a part in the grand strategy of the war.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. The two major Army units that operated in the Pacific - the 11th Airborne Division and the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team (PRCT) launched small-scale operations on extremely difficult, if not, outright dangerous, terrain, while also conducting amphibious assaults, fighting on jungled hills, swamps and mud. The two units were very different, with the 503rd PRCT being reserved for special purpose missions and the 11th Airborne Division occupying a more traditional role. This title will deal with the background to these two units and their training, before detailing the specific equipment used in the theatre and, finally and most importantly, the combat experience at a personal level of the US Army Paratrooper in the Pacific.
