This is a depression era sandwich / tid-bit tray, manufactured by Hocking Glass Co. from 1931-1937. The pattern is called Mayfair or Open Rose. Very fine, Civil War period outdoor view of a large brick building with a cupola on the other side that is just visible above the roof line. There are several men standing on the steps, below the portico, and in the yard which is surrounded by a wooden picket fence. There is another large brick building adjacent to it at the left of the view. Backmark: J.C. Spooner's Picture Palace, Foot's Block, Corner Main & State Sts., Springfield, Mass. I bought this cdv sight unseen and based on the description I was hopeful that it was going to be an image of the Springfield Armory, or possibly one of the other buildings on the arsenal grounds. To date I have not been able to positively identify the subject. If anyone recognizes this building I would appreciate hearing from you.

Green spongeware pitcher. This pitcher has yellow flat clay bottom. It is not brand new, but is not 'antique'. It is marked on bottom with a mark then 89/39.99 J358197. I do not think the 89 is a year mark; it is likely a mold number. The 39.99 is a price mark. This is a very nice looking pitcher; no chips or cracks. Stands 8 inches tall. Likely made in the Zanesville, Ohio region. 5/13scsr

Mortally wounded in action near Richmond, Va. in May 1864 Extremely rare carte de visite with imprint of Vannerson under my eye individual prowess deserving special commendation. Gordon had earned his colonelcy, and when Colonel Laurence Baker was severely wounded on July 31st, Stuart recommended to General Robert E. Lee that Gordon be promoted to brigade command. On September 28, 1863, Gordon was promoted to rank of brigadier general, and assigned to command the North Carolina Brigade; consisting of the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th cavalry regiments. Within days he led his command in the Bristoe Campaign, and although he was wounded on October 13th at Auburn Mill, Va., he refused to relinquish command. In Stuart's words, Gordon, continued, by his brave example and marked ability, to control the field. Six days later at Buckland, Va., Gordon again distinguished himself. During the Mine Run Campaign, in November, he had a horse shot out from under him in an action near Parker's Store. He then led his brigade in the 1864 Overland Campaign. When General Phil Sheridan's cavalry made a raid towards Richmond, Stuart's cavalry intercepted them north of the city. General James B. Gordon fell mortally wounded on May 12, 1864, near Meadow Bridge, and died in Richmond 6 days later. His remains were returned to his native North Carolina for burial in Wilkesborough. Gordon was one of a handful of non-Virginians in General J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry corps who had distinguished himself. He performed very capably at every level of command, serving with honor and gallantry, and his loss was deeply felt in the cavalry corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. Backmark: Vannerson & Jones, Photographers, Richmond, Va. Sharp image. This view was taken by Vannerson & Jones in Richmond, sometime between September 1863 and May 1864. This is one of only two known war time views of Gordon. Other than the card being trimmed, it is in excellent condition, and I feel that the rarity trumps the trimming. This is the first General James B. Gordon cdv that I have ever offered on my War Between The States website which I started in 1995. I've only had one other cdv of him, and that dates back to my old print catalog days sometime in the 1980's. Thus I would consider General James Byron Gordon to be an extremely rare carte de visite to find!

Officially the Biedermeier style and period started in Germany from 1815-1848 and was seen as a simplified interpretation of the French Empire style of the Emperor Napoleon. This elegantly simple piece consists actually of a couple of cabinets connected to each other in their center and offering 2 storage compartments, revealed by paneled recessed doors. One compartment provides shelves while the other offers a straight bar for hanging cloths. Minor scratches and dents can be seen here and there due to the age. Circa date 1820. This is the 7 1/4 mixing bowl in the 400 Line made by Anchor Hocking in the 1960's and 1970's. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and it has good Anchorwhite color. There are a few very light, very minor scratches on the interior from use. This mixing bowl is marked Anchor Hocking Fire-King Ware Made In U.S.A. on the bottom (see photos) and is 7 1/4 in diameter and 3 5/8 high.

This is the 6 sherbet plate or saucer in the Manhattan or Horizontal Ribbed pattern made by the Anchor Hocking Glass Company from 1938 through 1943. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and it has good detail of the Manhattan design. There are some very light scratches and scuffs from use and stacking. As is quite often the case with Hocking's patterns of this era, they made a dual purpose saucer/plate to cut costs; there is no known true saucer with cup ring in Manhattan. This Depression Glass saucer or sherbet plate is 6 1/8 in diameter.

This is the deep plate in the Fiesta line made by the Homer Laughlin China Company from 1936 through 1969. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and it has good medium green color and glaze. It looks as though it was barely, if ever, used. The deep plate was added to the line in August of 1936 and continued to be made throughout while the hard to find medium green color, the last color added to the original Fiesta line, was added in 1959 and discontinued in 1969. Although quite often referred to now as a soup bowl, it is listed as a deep plate in the original catalogs. This deep plate has the vintage Genuine fiesta H.L.Co. USA mark on the bottom (see photos) and is 8 1/4 in diameter, 1 3/4 high and guaranteed to be the old, original medium green color.
