3. This Week's Question
Every week we post stories, comments and survey results from our readers

COME AND "LIKE" US ON Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TIASAntiques
--
This weeks request was to tell us your favorite story about how you acquired one item in your collection. Half the fun of collecting is finding the items you collect and every item in every collection has a story about how it was found. So what we were looking for from you, is the most interesting story you have about one item in your collection.

The first 10 stories I get each week will receive one of these great little gadgets. See: http://youtu.be/MLofj1Ca6TM I've mailed out quite a few over the past month. When you submit your story, make sure to include you mailing address so that we can send you your gift.

Here is what we received this week...
--

When time is passing slowly - Some years ago I regularly had a stall at Antique Fairs, one Saturday was tediously slow and we had done no business. Mid afternoon I left my wife in charge and went to a nearby Betting Shop, within 50 minutes I’d chosen horses at different venues, placed bets, listened to the races and won a considerable amount of money. On walking back into the entrance of the Antique Fair I knew this was a lucky day as a lady going in front of me saw my Stallholder Badge and asked if I bought antiques. She then unwrapped a magnificent late Victorian advertisement and said what she wanted for it, I made an immediate purchase, which could even have been called “snapping her hand off”. I then discovered my wife had sold three expensive Pratt Pot Lids, without having to take off any discount, we’d had them for years and I’d given up hope of selling them for their true worth. As we packed up a fellow stallholder saw my Advertisement, fell in love with it and gave me a very hefty profit. The moral of the story, don’t bet unless you can afford to throw money away, never sell for less than you paid out and never give up selling just because the day is slow. Bill Phillips, Staffordshire, UK

--Another Story--

My grandparents came to Canada from North Dakota in 1923. They brought with them a large round oak dining table that was often filled to capacity by their large family. The table had a single pedestal with four broad feet.

My Dad and Mom inherited that table in 1949. As a kid I remember resting my feet on the pedestal feet. The table was generally pushed against the wall and it was always a race among us siblings to get the coveted place by the wall where there was room to place some reading material.

This table was definitely the centre of our home- dining, homework, visiting, baking, canning. It was only working surface available!

Today my son has this beautiful table, and it gives me great pleasure to see his children seated at the table rubbing their stocking feet on the gently worn pedestal....Elnore

If you have a story to share, please email it to Phil@tias.com and if we include it in an upcoming issue, we'll send you one of these http://youtu.be/MLofj1Ca6TM

Another kitchen faux pas - I remember so well even though it was 39 years ago. I was nine months pregnant with our first baby and I had been craving something sweet in the evenings. My husband was too tired to get in the car for ice cream and he asked me if there were ingredients for anything that he could bake. He had never baked anything before, which created a great deal of anxiety for me instead of the peaceful relaxation I was striving for at 9 pm. He was looking through our one little cookbook and came across a pineapple upside down cake recipe. That sounded great but then I started getting one question after another from the kitchen -- How do you do this? -- What do they mean when they say that? He made a delicious cake but the funny and most memorable part of the evening was when I went into the kitchen and saw the mess he had made. So many bowls were dirty, and the counter tops, walls, and floor needed to be cleaned. We even had to clean the ceiling because he didn't know to turn the beater off before he took it out of the mixing bowl. He was really tired after that mess was cleaned up -- should have gone for ice cream! That cake tasted great considering the huge effort it took on my husband's part. It is a memory that I will always look back on with love and appreciation. It makes us laugh! Donna B. from Virginia

One of our readers - Leah - requested recipes for "Harry potter - Butterbeer". We received the following...
--
Ingredients

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup butterscotch topping
2 tablespoons whipped butter, room temperature
1 1/2 cups vanilla cream soda

Directions

Combine condensed milk, butterscotch topping, and butter in a glass heatproof measuring cup. Heat in microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir until butter has melted and incorporated into mixture. Meanwhile heat cream soda in another heatproof measuring cup for 1 minute 30 seconds.

Divide butterscotch mixture between 2 (10 to 12-ounce) mugs. Fill mugs with heated cream soda and stir thoroughly. Serve garnished with an old-fashioned butterscotch candy stick.
