9. A Vintage Recipe
Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at:
Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.
Last week, Lindsey from Minnesota was looking for a dumpling recipe. We received quite a few, and here are a couple of them. Thanks to all who emailed!
From Mary G:
Put 1/2 cup of milk in measuring cup
Add 1 EGG and beat with fork.
In seperate bowl put in
1 and 1/2 cups of Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
Pour milk mixture over and mix well.
Drop by teaspoons into the soup about
20 minuets to cook.
I always cook mine in seperate kettle of
boiling water, then put in soup. Gets rid of
a lot of starch! I have had these since small
child and now am 70 yrs so I know this is old!
From Jaci from Virginia:
All Lindsey needs to do is get a box of All-Purpose Baking Mix, Jiffy
Mix or my favorite: Bisquick. The recipe is very easy to follow.
2 cups of baking mix
2/3 cup of milk
1. Combine baking mix with milk. Mix well with a fork.
2. Spoon dough onto your boiling chicken stew. Cook uncovered over low
heat for 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer. Nice round and
Jean L. form New Jersey also recommend the recipe on the box of Bisquick.
10. A vintage recipe request from a reader:
"Back in the early 60s, my mom used to make a cake that had canned fruit cocktail in it, and maybe walnuts. I remember it being really moist, and not being frosted." Margo P. in Cleveland, OH.
If you can help this reader with this recipe, please forward it to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
If you have a vintage recipe request send it to firstname.lastname@example.org and we might just publish it here.
