Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.
Last week a reader asked for a vintage ham glaze recipe using a local gingerale (Vernors) and other ingredients. Thanks to a reader who grew up in Toledo, Ohio for this recipe! Sounds delicious!
" Growing up in Toledo,OH we loved Vernors. When ever I go back to visit I bring ten cases back west. Here is the recipe we used. I hope this is what Alice in Venice, FL was looking for.
VERNORS - HAM GLAZE
1 liter Vernors
8 oz. jar dijon mustard
2 c. orange marmalade
1 c. light brown sugar
1 c. orange juice
Place 1 liter Vernors in a small pot and boil rapidly until liquid is reduced to 1 cup. To this syrup, add mustard, marmalade, sugar, and orange juice. Simmer 10 to 15 minutes or until the consistency of a light syrup. Baste ham during the last 45 minutes of cooking (baste at 8 to 10 minute intervals). You can also serve the remaining glaze as a sauce.
10. A vintage recipe request from a reader:
This week we have a request from Bev in Cottonwood, AZ:
I hope someone can help me with this recipe by Easter. I'm looking for a recipe for carrots and it is made in a slow cooker. They are cut in about 1 inch pieces, and cooked in a sauce which is kind of sweet, I can't remember what all goes in to it but I think some ketchup and maybe brown sugar for the sweetness. The sauce it cooks in is a little on the thicker side instead of thin. I lost mine and it's been so long since I fixed it I just can't remember what all goes in to it. Thank you much if you can help me. Bev B, Cottonwood, AZ
As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
If you have a vintage recipe request send it to firstname.lastname@example.org and we might just publish it here.
