Every week we post stories and comments from our readers. Send your story to newsletter@tias.com and we'll publish it in an upcoming newsletter. However, if you do have a facebook account please "Like" us!

Remember that you can check out our Facebook page for some interesting updates. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/TIASAntiques If you have photos of items you would like to share you can post them there as well.

Also, everyday, we post a "This Date In History" story, along with an item for sale on http://www.tias.com that relates to the event. Check it out!

Frank S. from Illinois sends in this story about something his father collected but almost "lost": "If only we could go back in time! Little did we know that those large silver coins we snuck out of a large canning jar (to buy from the neighborhood ice cream man of course) were our father's collection of silver dollars! I often wonder if that ice cream man knew just how valuable those coins were (even back then)."

Kelly R. wants to know if anyone can help identify and value this cool Coke item: "We found what looks to be like a vintage umbrella or parasol cover. It has eye lets along the bottom, but on the outside outer edge of the canvas instead of underneath like most umbrellas, and snaps along the side from the top center hole to the bottom. The top center hole would resemble what an umbrella would stick through. I have looked extensively all over the web in every venue I could find for coke. Can you please help. Thank You, Kelly" To view the images, please go to:

7. A Vintage Recipe

Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http://www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.

"Hi - The request for a chicken and rice pilaf recipe sent in by Susan O., with her recollection of browning rice and broken vermicelli, makes me think of dishes my mom used to concoct back in the '70s that used Rice-A-Roni as a base. She might try checking the Rice-A-Roni website for pilaf recipes.

Best to all,
Lynn in Florida "
--
*Note - the recipes are submitted by fellow Collectors Newsletter readers and are not checked for accuracy or tested by the TIAS staff. Keep in mind that many of these recipes were created at a time when there were no worries about such things as raw eggs, for example - so modern kitchen safety should prevail.
--------------------

8. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
--

There were no requests for vintage recipes this week. But I was thinking about some of the things I've heard people talk about when reminiscing about comfort foods from their childhood. Anybody care to share your favorite comfort food (and how to make it) that someone in your family concocted that you still love - or maybe that you hated? Here's one handed down by my grandmother to my mom. Most of my siblings still love it, but I hated it and have never to this day made it. Depression Spaetzle is what I'll call it, but we referred to it as "Noodles and Crumbs". If you don't know what Spaetzle is, it's a delicious, tender German dumpling or noodle that is boiled and then sauted in butter, or baked with butter and a crumb topping. My grandmother's version was plain old flat egg noodles (no butter!), topped with crushed saltine crackers - and then we kids doused it in ketchup!

If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might just publish it here.

TIAS.com merchants have well over 4,000 cookbooks for sale! You can see them here: http://www.tias.com/books/cooking/
