Last week, Gerald B asked for help identifying a kitchen tool he found in a house museum. We had many comments on the FaceBook page, and some via email, including one from Pat H: "The item is a fruit jar wrench in canning. I found it in a kitchen collectible book that I have. Pat" Some suggested it was for oil filter removal, adding that perhaps "...mom stole to open jars". Thanks for all the feedback!
Jasmen sent in some pictures of a golden colored, stemmed goblet with this note: "Hello, could you please look at the attached pictures and let us know if you might know who made this glass. my grandmother has given us a set of them. they measures 8" tall. cannot see any markings on them. The inside has almost a smooth elongated diamond pattern. Out side has single flower on three sides. any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance. Jasmen" It looks like our followers once again helped to identify the pattern. Beautiful pictures!
Misty W. asks if anyone can help her with info about a set of dinnerware she has: "I have a complete set of Yorkshire made in Staffordshire England genuine hand engraved ironstone. it has the man with 2 horses and the hay with a man on it... does this sound familiar? and can you tell me more about what i have?" You can view the images here:

Carol T wanted to share this vintage recipe. Thank you, Carol!
1940’s Chocolate Biscuits & Chocolate Spread Recipe
1 tablespoon of syrup (golden, corn or maple)
2 oz/ 1/4 cup margarine
1 oz/ 1/8 cup of cocoa powder
4 oz/ 1/2 cup plain flour (I found I used more)
2 oz/ 1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Melt margarine and syrup and vanilla essence in a pan and mix in cocoa powder until smooth
Mix in the sugar then mix in the flour until smooth. Add more flour if required until you can handle like a dough
Roll out and cut into squares and prick all over and place in an oven at 350 F for 10 minutes or more
Sandwich together, when cool, with chocolate spread,
1 oz cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 cup milk
Mix dry ingredients
Add the milk gradually and bring to the boil and lower heat
Best until smooth and until mixture thickens
Allow to cool before placing between biscuits.

Keep in mind that many of these recipes were created at a time when there were no worries about such things as raw eggs, for example - so modern kitchen safety should prevail.
8. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
We didn't receive any requests for vintage recipes this week. It's too hot to cook, right? Care to share your mom's best potato salad recipe?
