Thanks to those of you who have responded in the past! We really enjoy, and appreciate, the feedback!
We don't have any stories this week, but we have quite a number of submissions from our readers who are looking for information and/or value of items they've either found while shopping or have inherited. It's always fun to see what other people own and treasure! Although we can't put the pictures in this newsletter, please visit our Facebook page at these links to view the images and learn about these items:
Glenda K sent us this:
"I FOUND THIS SMALL ORIENTAL HAND DECORATED CABINET AT AN ESTATE SALE RECENTLY, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT ITS PURPOSE MIGHT BE? THE INSIDE IS LINED WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE GLASS. IT STANDS 12” H X 12”W X 9 ˝” D." We're thinking humidor perhaps? Anyone else care to comment?
One of our readers, James S., sent us these pictures and wondered if anyone has any info and/or the value of this item: "Hand Painted Nippon gravy boat" Well that's what it looks like to me anyway. It stands on four gold painted legs. On the bottom is the letter M inside a wreath. The word Nitake (sp) is not written anywhere on the piece which makes me think it is pre 1911. The piece is covered profusely in gold." Can anyone help?
James S. sent in another item he's having trouble researching: "It is a beautifully painted teapot with a great deal of gold. Unfortunately, it looks as though the stamp or facsimile of was washed away or removed somehow.I have no idea of its origin, but it certainly looks a lot like the other Nippon piece. These were my wife's Great Grandmothers. Thanks again"
James S. has one more thing he'd like info about and hasn't been able to find the exact same thing online: "...Saint Augustine Ware plate from England. It has the Merry Maid nursery rhyme on the outside edges. I have found others that are similar, but not this exact one. Several searches online suggested that it was a rare plate. I'm not sure how true that is as I have seen a few different ones."

Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.
Last week Trish R. requested a fruit salad recipe from the 70s. We had SO many responses! Thanks to Cheryl, Grace S, Dee, Elnore R, Merlene H, Donna S, Lana R, Sandi C, Carol T, Ginny B, Kay E, Lara H, Susan N and Barbara M! Many were duplicates, so this must have been THE fruit salad for potluck dinners in the 70s! Here are a few, and we hope one of these is what Trish remembers!
2 small cans mandarin oranges
1 cup coconut
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 carton sour cream
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Can also add the following if you like:
1 cup diced pineapple or cut up bananas
The salad was called "Ambrosia" . It did have shredded coconut, pineapple,
marshmallows, mandarin orange segments, maraschino cherries and was bound
together by sour cream. Delicious!
1 can pineapple chunks (20oz.)
1 can mandarin oranges, drained(20 oz.)
1 banana sliced
1 c seedless grapes
1/2 cu small marshmallows
1 cup vanilla lowfat yogurt
1/4 cup coconut toasted
combine all fruit, stir in yogurt, then sprinkle with coconut
This was a staple at every family reunion I went to in the 70's. The fruit can be changed to taste and I have seen it made with various nuts as well. Do an internet search for Ambrosia Salad and you will get a wide array of recipes. This recipe came from Cooks.com. Enjoy! Lara H.

1 can coconut flakes
1/2 bag mini marshmallows
