3. Do you know what day it is? Just to show you how versatile the inventory presented by our hundreds of sellers can be, we've been researching little-known national and world-wide "holidays" that most people aren't familiar with, and matching them up with items for sale on TIAS.com. Yesterday was the very First National Love Your Red Hair Day. Lucille Ball came to mind:
Visit us on Facebook
to read about some of the interesting and sometimes amusing "holidays"! You don't need to have a Facebook account to view that page!
4. Be sure to visit our Thanksgiving board on Pinterest!
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. In the United States, the modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition is commonly, but not universally, traced to a poorly documented 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest.
We've "decorated" our Pinterest boards to give it a more "autumny" feel. There are some Halloween boards, as well as other fall related items displayed there. Take a look!
Also visit the page for November Birthstones: Topaz and Citrine
Topaz and citrine are appropriate birthstones for November birthdays. Topaz: gemstone in a rich rainbow of colors. Here's an interesting item and a note from one of our readers:
Love the newsletter - I read it faithfully!
Today I purchased a really interesting item, but nothing in my research has revealed what it really is.
Here's what I've learned:
Hallmarks show it was made in the Netherlands for export.
It's sterling silver
Made between 1875 - 1895
Unlike the others I've found, this one is made in THREE parts, rather than TWO.
A British website has a similar one for sale for over $2000, but it's only in two parts.
Others just like it are designed for snuff or pills, but I'd like to know as those of you who are way knowledgeable than I, what this is.
Hope you can help me!

Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed. Email email@example.com if you would like to submit a recipe.
Las week an avid cookbook collector sent in a recipe from "Heinz Book of Salads" for Baked Bean Sandwich. We received this response from Sandi C:
"I was so tickled to see the "recipe" for a Baked Bean Sandwich in this newsletter! It was a favorite of my mom and also mine. I especially like "scraping the little browned edges" of the pan for my sandwich. And, of course a little bacon, ham, molasses cooked with the beans (even cheaper can of 'pork and beans works fine) makes it just SUPER! Thanks for the memory - maybe I'll fix one tonight."
Here's a recipe that might come in handy during the holidays:
A great dip recipe for the holidays
2 (16-ounce) cans black-eyed peas, drained
2 (11-ounce) cans white shoepeg corn, drained
2 (11-ounce) cans diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
2 large green bell peppers, chopped
12 small green onions, chopped
3 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 (16-ounce) large Italian dressing
Scoop-style corn chips
Combine all ingredients except dressing in a bowl, blending well. Pour dressing over all and toss well to coat. Refrigerate overnight. Serve with corn chips.
11. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe. If you have a vintage recipe request send it to firstname.lastname@example.org and we might just publish it here.
