Visit our board for the March Birthstone - Aquamarine or Bloodstone
https://www.pinterest.com/TIASAntiques/march-birthstone-aquamarine-or-bloodstone/

Aquamarine is derived from Latin word aqua, meaning water, and marina, meaning the sea. Was believed to protect sailors, as well as to guarantee a safe voyage. The serene color of aquamarine is said to cool the temper, allowing the wearer to remain calm and levelheaded. The 2nd birthstone for March is bloodstone, dark-green jasper flecked with vivid red spots of iron oxide. This ancient stone was used by Babylonians to make seals and amulets.

We just started a new board for Soup Tureens! More to be pinned there soon!

7. This Week's Stories and Requests for Help/Blast from the past

Please share your story about collecting with us, and we will publish it here. Send your story to newsletter@tias.com
--
Here's a reprint from a March 2007 newsletter:

My collection started indirectly with the passing of my grandmother.
After she passed away it was suggested that each grandchild go the
house and take what he or she wanted. I gathered several things one
of which was a pair of Mr. & Mrs. Claus salt and pepper shakers. At
the time I had no interest whatsoever in salt and pepper shakers but
thought that the set my grandmother had were kind of neat and besides
it was something that had belonged to my grandmother. Many years
later after getting married my husband was at a flea market and wanted
to buy me something. He saw a pair of salt and pepper shakers,
thought they were nice and brought them home. I now had two pair of
salt and pepper shakers and to me that was enough to start a collection.
I now have approximately 200 pair and am still collecting with Christmas
Salt and Pepper Shakers being my favorite. So although I had no idea
all those years ago when I took the set from my grandmotherís house that
I would be a collector that is exactly what happened. Keep up the great
work I look forward to receiving your newsletter. Pat, PA

How did you get started collecting? Send your story to newsletter@tias.com and we may publish it here.
