New Online Bonded Auction opens Monday April 11th
In the last issue of Antique Business News, we had
asked our readers to participate in a survey. The
results have been turned into a 6 day auction event.
On Monday, prescreened, Bonded sellers will begin
listing antiques and collectibles for the April
27th launch of the BondedSale.com
( http://www.BondedSale.com)a 6 day, online, auction
event. As auction lots are listed over the next two
weeks, collectors are invited to preview items which
have never been offered for sale online by these
sellers before.
Every participating seller has been prescreened at
no charge, by buySAFE and, then bonded by The
Hartford Financial Services Group. Because all
sellers are bonded, each and every sale will be
guaranteed for up to $10,000 per auction.
Sellers participating at this auction event have
also agreed to only list antiques and collectibles
that they have not listed for sale online before.
The event is expected to feature some interesting,
fresh merchandise and present some truly unique
bidding opportunities for collectors.
If you would like to participate as a seller, you
can apply for bonding online at:

Atlantique City Show - Change was in the air
In March I attended the Atlantique City show in
Atlantic City New Jersey. It is the largest Antiques
and Collectibles show in the world. I spoke to quite
a few merchants and the overall feeling was that the
show was a huge success. Many dealers reporter strong
sales as compared to the previous two years.
When asked about Internet sales, many merchants
responded that they have cut back on the number of
items they are listing on eBay and are using the
service as a wholesale venue to acquire new merchandise.
Many merchants appear to be building more elaborate
Web sites. The trend seems to be more towards building
Web sites where they can offer items at fixed price
and market their own brand. These new sites also allow
sellers to promote events they will be attending,
their brick and mortar locations and also give more
information and services to their regular customers.
Web sites are turning into advanced marketing tools
and are becoming one component of a merchants business
plan.
The trend away from eBay as a venue for selling antiques
and collectibles and a return to sales at antique shows
is quite dramatic and reflects the maturing online market
for antiques and collectibles.

Froogle goes live (lots of antiques and collectibles)
Froogle the online shopping search engine has gone
live after more than a year of testing by the folks
at Google.
The Froogle search engine collects inventory from
many different Web sites and presents them in a
comparative format, making it easy for shoppers to
view many items in one location.
If you have a shopping site that lists antiques and
collectibles and want to get you inventory listed in
Froogle take a look at:
