IV. You Asked-Pewter
Pewter has mysterious quiet depths like fog or a clouded mirror. It is an alloy of mostly tin with a little copper, antimony, and sometimes lead. It is most oftern characterized by a muted, silvery-gray color and a mottled surface that is far less showy and shiny than silver. The plainness is precisely what connoisseurs prize. The country of origin is unknown, but possibly Egypt. The period of popularity for utilitarian objects is 1400 to 1860. England was where production was the most widespread. Pewter is becoming more and more popular with collectors and decorators alike.
