Circa: 1860's
Condition: Good+
Manufacturer: George Parr
This is a nice clean useable antique 1.56" wide, tanged gouge chisel made by George Parr Co.. George Parr was a edge tool maker in Buffalo NY in the 1860's. This chisel is 13.2" long overall. It is marked "GEO PARR ....STEEL" (CAST STEEL) near the tang end of the steel, and there are also some past owner's initials stamped on the neck near by the maker's name. This chisel has no rust, some light pitting on the steel but none near or effecting the very sharp cutting edge. The gouge radius sweep is the medium or standard sweep and is out-channel sharpened. The handle is solid, has a good brass ferrule at the tang end, and we note a 2 grain splits nearby that ferrule, yet very solid and useable. We note some staining on the handle, and some red paint specks here and there. A top quality made cast steel chisel!
