This vintage solid copper basket dish has an unusual embossed decoration of poinsettia flowers - the Christmas plant. It measures about 7-1/2 inches diameter by 6 inches high to the twisted copper handle. The underside is marked Hammercraft, Made In Canada.
The embossed flower detail is very realistic and skillfully executed. The basket has a wonderful dark warm brown patina. The black outlining appears to be a manufacturer applied finish called antiquing to simulate age. It can be removed easily by cleaning or polishing though of course that would destroy the fabulous patina. There's a very small, minor amount of verdigris in some the design folds. The camera flash enhanced it, it's not nearly as noticeable as it seems in the photos. There are also 3 or 4 tiny flecks of enamel paint. These are usually easy to scratch off but again, I didn't want to do anything to damage the patina.
