Freeman-mcfarlin Pottery: 1951-1980 By: Nancy Kelly
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This is the first book devoted entirely to the vast array of wonderful animal sculptures and decorative items produced by Freeman-McFarlin Pottery, located in California from 1951 through 1980. This book contains over 480 vivid photos and vintage catalog pages, interviews with former employees, and a price guide. Learn the story of the overlapping histories of other California Potteries owned by Gerald McFarlin prior to his partnership with Maynard Anthony Freeman, including Tudor Pottery, Rio Hondo, and McFarlin Potteries. The early years are defined by cute miniature animals and plain-looking pottery. Once the partnership flourished, the animals and tableware became larger, bolder, and much more innovative. The history includes two factories, numerous artists, a devastating fire, the sale of the company to International Multifoods of Minnesota, and ultimately, the sale to Hagen-Renaker, a well-known California Pottery, in 1980. 451 color & 36 b/w photos

This is First Quality and in perfect condition. When these were first issued, only members or new members were allowed to purchase. By Mark Delf and Sue Rowe.

Rrp/ransbottom Pottery 2 Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler
The Roseville, Ohio Company of Robinson Ransbottom used the crown mark on its utilitarian wares from the mid 1920's until approximately 1950. This 2 gallon stoneware water cooler has cobalt blue stripes on a light gray background, measures 15 inches to the top of the lid, and has an 8 inch diameter on both the unglazed base and the top opening. Over-all, the water cooler is in good vintage condition. The blue plastic spigot pictured is a replacement for the metal construction spigot which would have been original to this cooler. The plastic spigot works well to release water, and seals when shut off. We purchased this item at an estate sale, and it had been in the family for years. The lid has a repair to the edge from a chip that had been knocked out. The previous owner had the chip filled in by a local ceramic shop with epoxy. They were not able to do color matching and you can see this in our photos. Also, the cooler has a hairline type of split at the top, where the lid would set. This had also been filled and noted in our pictures. Robinson Ransbottom Pottery is now out of business. This is an item they manufactured well. Crocks, large and small, were their specialty. This yelloware water cooler, dispenser crock is glazed inside and out for water proofing. This RRP two gallon crock is an old-time display worthy and functional cooler/keg. Cooler weighs 16 pounds before packaging. We will be utilizing UPS Ground Insured shipping on this item to customers within the U.S. only. Please email us your zip/code location for shipping quote.
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. During her sixty-five-year career, Susie Cooper introduced more than 4,500 ceramic patterns and shapes, making her one of the most prolific, versatile and influential designers the industry has ever seen. Between the 1920s and 1980s she moved from the bold hand-painting of the Jazz Age through delicate wash banding and aerograph techniques to sophisticated lithographic transfer printing on both earthenware and bone china. Cooper not only led the charge of gifted female designers in the male-dominated Potteries but also pioneered the role of women in factory management. Alan Marshall here charts her progress from the creation of patterns for Gray's Pottery in the 1920s, to running her own Susie Cooper Productions from the 1930s to the 1950s, and designing for Wedgwood from the 1960s to the 1980s.
