Our rose bowl is a Scarce & valuable heirloom in wonderful condition. Research consulted: The vast majority of comparison data including marks, forms, sizing, hand painted decoration, The Collectors Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain (Series 1 to 7), and Van Pattens ABCs of Collecting Nippon Porcelain, by Joan Van Patten 1979 to 2005, along with The Wonderful World of Nippon Porcelain 1891 - 1921 / by Kathy Wojciechowski, and Collectible Victorian, Edwardian & Vintage Art Glass, Porcelain, Lampworks & Pottery / by John & Candice Scherz. In the 19th century, the country of Nippon was virtually isolated from the rest of the civilized world, having achieved 215 years of self imposed seclusion. In 1853, Commodore Perry steamed into Yedo Bay (later Renamed Tokyo), and after a year of frustration, The Kanagawa Treaty was signed on March 31, 1854 opening the smaller ports of Shimoda (near Yedo) and Hakodate in the north to trade. Treaties with other nations followed, and by 1865, Japan was officially open for business. In the years from 1860-1880, many Japanese artists went abroad to learn the foreign techniques, and literally thousands of foreign artisans were brought to Japan to train the locals in European styles. This alliance brought forth wonderful fruit, many of the Japanese embraced the new concepts, BUT also skillfully combined their historic patterns in the mix. The era of hand decorated Nippon porcelain had begun. Prior to the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891, no recorded Nippon marked pieces had come into America. The Japanese Imperial Reign of record was the Meiji period that lasted from 1868 until 1911, and these pre 1891 porcelain items often showed painted symbols or inscriptions bearing such major regional kiln names as Satsuma, Kutani, Arita, Hizen, Kaga, Kioto, Owari, Ise, and Tokio. from 1891 forward, major changes were manifested in the qualification of Japanese porcelain, beginning with the original Hand Painted Nippon Maple Leaf mark. Condition: EXC condition, minor loss to gilt

Antique Nippon China 3 Piece Condiment With Lid & Spoon, Rising Sun Mk
Neat little condiment server complete with lid and hard to find spoon (in one piece and great shape). Antique Nippon China fully marked with the Hand Painted Nippon blue Rising Sun mark. This is an original Nippon piece made between 1890 and 1921, although we do not know exactly when during that period it was made. This type of piece is often referred to as a condiment or mustard server, but could be used for any type of food addition handled via a small spoon. White base porcelain (this piece is translucent) with cream colored paint near the top or outer edge (on the base piece and lid), highlighted with gold line trimming which has a raised line motif in spots including gold line trim on the side handle and the top of the lid finial/handle and gold dots on the china spoon. There are hand painted pink flowers (we don't know the type) with green leaves, with a large floral decoration on one side of the base piece and just a small one on the backside. We've provided 8 images to try and show details and the mark. Please note that we had trouble getting the coloring to show correctly with the camera lighting, so we've provided images both with and without the lighting. The white hot spots are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. When put together with lid and spoon, this vintage condiment server sits about 3 inches in height, about 3 3/4 inches in greatest width (from outside of handle to opposite side of base) and about 3 inches in depth or diameter to this round piece. The china spoon measures about 3 1/4 inches in length. Excellent overall condition. There are no major chips, cracks or crazing. We do see some minor flakes on the side of the inside part of the lid which fits within the base (not on the outer rim/edges) and some tiny, tiny dots or flakes as well as general expected wear on the underside of the base piece where it sits. There is some paint wear on the large flower motif on the base that you will see when you look close-up, but its not bad, the usual age/use wear and this piece has survived very well. There is some gold wear on the lines on the handle of the lid and use/age darkening on the unglazed inner rim of the base piece on which the lid sits. There is a raised extra touch of porcelain as the piece was made (it is glazed over) on the lid, some pin/pit dots in the porcelain, and other small expected use/age wear, but we are looking very closely to be fair. This piece is really in lovely shape and very usable or great for display. Would make a nice addition for any set of Nippon China for use when entertaining, or a great small piece on display.
Pretty Antique Nippon China Azalea Creamer, Blue Rising Sun Mark
This is a very pretty antique Nippon China creamer or small pitcher in the popular Azalea pattern. Fully marked on the underside base with the light blue Nippon Hand Painted Rising Sun mark. This is original Nippon China and thus was made during the period 1890-1921, although we don't know exactly when during that period it was made. The piece came out of an older person's home. Measures 3 inches in height, about 5 inches in width (from outside of handle to tip of spout) and 3 1/4 inches in depth. White base porcelain (this creamer is translucent) with hand painted light pink azalea flowers with green and grey shadow leaves (2 open flowers on one side with two flower buds, and on the other side one open flower with two flower buds). There is a curved spout on one side and an open geometric handle on the other side. The top rim of the vintage creamer is trimmed in gold with gold line trimming on the handle, but it should be noted that a good bit of the gold line trim along the top rim has been worn away through age/use, with also some wear to the gold line trim on the handle. We have provided 8 images to try to show detail and the manufacturer mark. Please note that we had trouble getting the coloring to show correctly with our camera lighting so we've provided images both with and without the lighting. The pink flower coloring is the usual pale pink seen with Nippon pieces of this pattern (rather than the darker, more striking azalea pink seen on Noritake pieces of this pattern). The white hot spots in the images are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy china surface. Excellent, slightly used condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some light scratches on the white outside surface, but you need to look at an angle in bright light to see these. We've mentioned above the gold wear. We want to point out that there is no chipping or flaking on the spout rim as is often the case. There are some pin/pit dots in the porcelain, some dark dots/tiny wear on the interior of the creamer, a touch of paint wear on the flowers (nothing bad), and a bit of wear to the underside base rim on which this piece sits. Really there's nothing to worry about here, it's a lovely piece in expected slightly used condition for its age. A great usable and displayable vintage piece which would be a terrific addition to any collection of this nifty Azalea pattern china. Would also make a nice gift for a gardener who loves azaleas.
