Character Jugs

This is a Royal Doulton Geronimo Toby mug that is part of the Wild West Collection. The bottom mark states that it is modeled by Stanley James Taylor and was limited to 1984. It stands approximately 6 tall, 5 1/2 wide to the end of the handle and 5 deep. It is in good condition and shows very little wear to the bottom. There is one spot in his hair on the left side bottom where white is showing through. It either could have happened in the firing or scraped. I am unable to tell. It is hardly noticeable but I wanted to mention it. This would be a great addition to any Toby collector!

Beautiful antique Toby Jug, Showing well fed gentleman seated, excellent hand decoration showing beautiful detail, take a look at the face, I think most handsome,no chips or cracks, There were markings on the bottom of the jug, but now erased and unreadable Measuring about 3 inches high.

Royal Doulton's Dick Turpin, D5485, size Large. This exceptional jug features shaded rim and A Kiln Mark so coveted by collectors. 6.5 inches tall with the long equals marks in the backstamp that show he is a very old fellow. He has the most beautiful artistry I have ever seen on this jug. No chips, cracks or repairs. Pistol Handle. Extremely fine crazing overall as in most pieces of this age. It is so fine that it is barely visible. Designed by Charles Noke and Henry Fenton. It is my belief that this is a very early, 1930's to 1940's jug.

Complete with the desired, shaded rim, A Kiln Mark and long, logo marks that indicate age, this large Toby Philpots is special due to his gorgeous coloration and detail. Yes, there have been a lot of these produced by Royal Doulton, but he is just wonderful. Take advantage of the soft market and buy him now. You will not regret this purchase!

Beautiful coloration and detail on this earlier, variation one, Falstaff Character Jug. D6385. 3 1/2 inches tall and produced from 1950 to 1995. Color is Rose tunie, black hat, rose plumes, grey beard with a plain, rose colored handle. From the backstamp, this appears to be closer to 1950. Backstamp says, Falstaff, D6385, COPR 1949, DOULTON & CO LIMITED. Designer was the wonderful, Harry Fenton.

This is a large William Kent, England character jug or toby jug of Mr. Pickwick from Charles Dickens' novel The Pickwick Papers. The large ceramic toby or character jug was made in the 1890s. The standing figure jug measures 7.5 inches high and is hand painted. The toby is listed on page 39 of Collecting British Toby Jugs by Vic Schuler. The Mr. Pickwick character jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.

Maroon on back with Orange Letters. Shaded rim. Backstamp has Long Marks, the #15, artist signed ER. Vintage. Excellent condition.

This is a neat little vintage toby jug in the ordinary style of a man in 17th century dress with a hat and a drinking mug made in England in the 1920s by Keele Street Pottery or KSP. The ugly cute guy stands (or sits) just under 3 inches tall, is 2.5 inches long to handle back and 2 inches wide. I brought him home from England recently. He is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks but could use a bit of a clean. A great little collectible companion.

DISCONTINUED Royal Doulton JUG OF YEAR 2004, D7188, The Queen Mary Character jug has been launched to commemorate her wedding to Prince Philip of Spain which took place in 1554. The handle depicts items relating to her ties with the church - a bishop's hat and ribbons, and a crucifix. It also shows a mandolin, depicting Mary's love of the instrument.
