Antique Tiles

Manufacturer: Ramos Rejano
This attractive two tile panel was made by the firm of Ramos Rejano, in Spain, circa 1940-1950. Each tile measures 10 3/4" x 5 1/2" - the tiles are glued together. Done in wax resist technique, also known as cuerda seca. The design is very interesting - it is the Coat of Arms of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. According to Michie's Legal Resources website: "The coat of arms of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico shall be "a green shield" bearing a silver lamb resting upon a red book and bearing a flag with cross and banner, as shown in the device of Saint John, and having for border castles, lions, flags and crosses of Jerusalem, and having for a device an F and Y with its crowns and yoke and arrows, and a motto around it as follows: Joannes est nomen ejvs.". One top left corner glaze chip - otherwise in extremely nice condition. (#T-1125-A)
