This is a hard to find vintage sterling silver brooch with marcasites and enameling. The brooch is marked STERLING PAT. NO. D108229. This design patent number belongs to Nicholas Barbieri of the Uncas Manufacturing Corp. of Rhode Island. The patent was granted in 1938. This brooch is shown on pages 215-216 in the book, Tribute to America. The brooch has two palm trees with green enameling on the leaves and marcasites down the tree trunks. There are also two birds with yellow, amber and brown enameling. They are sitting on branches with marcasites and there are also marcasites along the rim of the brooch. The brooch measures 1-5/8 inches in diameter. It is in very good condition with no missing enameling or marcasites. It does have a slight age patina and may need cleaning or polishing.
