Avis Yuni Antiques & Collectibles

Circa: 1972
Manufacturer: American Oil Company
Reproduction 1964 Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential campaign button (political pin, political pinback) from his re-election run for the presidency against Barry M. Goldwater. This was issued as part of a set of 38 reproduction political campaign buttons. We believe the set was issued by American Oil Company as a collector’s give-away or premium item in 1972 from some of the markings on the rim of the buttons. We have many others from the set but not a complete set and are listing each separately for those who may have an incomplete set which they are looking to complete.

This collectible campaign pin is still slid through its original descriptive card. All the campaign buttons are round (or circular) with this one measuring about 7/8 inch in diameter, in white and blue showing an image of a Texan hat (as Johnson was from Texas) onto which are printed in red the letters "LBJ" while printed beneath this is "All the Way" (LBJ All the Way was a key campaign slogan). We have shot the images including a quarter to the left of the button and card for size comparison. In this case we have the full red, white, blue and pink card, measuring about 4 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches (the prior owner apparently did not rip off the top part on this one in order to enter the sweepstakes contest). It provides a general description of the set with a specific paragraph on this button on the topside, and information regarding ordering others in the set on the reverse side.

The button has likely never been removed from the card; we got it attached to the card exactly facing as you see here. In some cases these buttons appear upside down or otherwise not rightside up in the images because we have left them as found and did not want to make new holes in the card backing in order for them to appear upright. With the close-up photography you should be able to get a good idea of the condition. All the buttons are overall in very nice shape, with some evidence of storage wear via some scratches and rubbed marks, etc. (varying with each button), but nothing bad. The backing card is also in very nice overall shape, but also with evidence of storage wear via folding in the middle, corner bending, no longer laying totally flat, some edge wear/tiny tearing/bending, etc. (again, varying with each button).

These make a nice gift or stocking stuffer for anyone interested in political history in general or collecting items related to a particular President or Presidential election campaign.

Should you wish to purchase more than one button, please e-mail us prior to placing the order. The shipping costs have been inputted for mailing one button by itself and the system won’t automatically calculate for you the savings you would receive by shipping more than one button together in one envelope. We will have to calculate that for you.
