Manufacturer: Rookwood Pottery
This unusual Rookwood faience tile is hand painted underglaze. The back is impressed with the backwards "RP" and the number "467". This was indeed part of a series, as I have had another tile done by the same hand, with a similar motif. I believe the artist to have been W. K. Hentschel. Well executed design of a man and woman with grapes and grape leaves. The colors are a bright blue green, dark blue, pale blue, brown, and burgundy in her hair. The clay body is a dark gray color. There are small chips to 3 corners, which can be quite nicely concealed when framed. In very nice condition. (#3216)
