Beautiful vintage teacup (tea cup) and saucer set made by Royal Crown Derby China in their Red Aves pattern. Both pieces came out of the same older home.

Saucer is fully marked on the underside "Derby China" above crown & insignia mark, under which appears "Royal Crown Derby English Bone China, "Red Aves" followed by what we believe is the pattern number "A. 74" (A74) and the Roman numerals XXXVI for 36. There are some impressed letters or numbers in the base china in the area of the crown insignia so the crown itself didn't fully transfer here, but it is the usual expected mark. There is also a red "Z" mark.

It looks like the cup is also fully marked on the underside but there is a Bloomingdale's paper label covering most of the marking, so we can only see the "Derby China" and the Roman numerals XXXV for 35. On the paper label is printed "Trade B Mark, Bloomingdale's" with what looks to be the original price for the cup of "10.50 each". This label looks old and faded, but still attached. Based on some research, this Royal Crown Derby mark was used from 1964 to 1975, so these pieces are definitely vintage.

Saucer is basically round with a slightly scalloped edge, measuring 5 3/4 inches in diameter and sitting 5/8 inch high. The cup has similar top edge scalloping, with a top diameter of 3 11/16 inches, a total greatest width with elegant curved handle of about 4 3/8 inches, a cinched in lower section before flaring to a round base with a diameter of about 1 3/4 inches, and a height of 2 5/16 inches. These vintage Derby China pieces are porcelain, as they are translucent. The two pieces together weigh 7 1/2 ounces unpacked.

Wonderful, largely all over transferred design in red of birds and foliage, on clean white base china, with the outer edge of the saucer and top and bottom edges of the cup trimmed in gold, and gold highlighting on the handle. There is also a delicate red leaf & curlicue design on the inside of the cup near the top edge that goes all around the inside cup except for a purposeful small break in the design near the handle area, as made. This same leaf & curlicue design is also on the outside of the cup near the cinched in bottom.

We've provided 8 images to show both pieces with close-ups of the marking and paper label, as well as the design. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the glossy surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, major wear. We don't think these pieces were used given the Bloomingdale's paper label still attached to the underside base of the cup. There are a few made in manufacture items to note, like a raised gold paint point/dot on the rim of the cup, some very tiny dark & red dots on the interior of the cup, etc., but nothing bad. Gold trim in terrific shape. On close examination in very bright light at an angle you can see a few small stray scratches on the saucer and perhaps a bit of other mild wear on these pieces as one would expected for older items which have sat and been dusted over time, but nothing of issue at all and nothing indicative of use. Former owner had them sitting on display.
