Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: early 1900's
Condition: Good+
Manufacturer: SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE CO.
This is a nice clean steel back 14" long blade backsaw or miter saw. It is fairly sharp and straight. Ready to use, cuts very nicely, but could use some light sharpening in the near future. No broken or missing teeth. Nicely shaped handle, very nice, solid, not cracked, some darkening of patina. This saw has been well cared for. There is a nice logo and the mark "NORVELL-SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE CO. DIAMOND EDGE NO. 125" on the steel, along with some other writing, and "DIAMOND EDGE" on the brass medallion also. The steel blade is very clean, no rust, a few spots of minor staining and pitting are noted. Overall a nice clean back saw, ready to cut!
I count 13 tooth points per inch. There is no missing teeth, but I have noted that a crosscut saw style angle relief was used in sharpening this saw. It cuts good and smooth. Has plenty of blade left for future shapening. Very nice quality, and a rarely seen distributor's name on this saw. I would bet that Disston actually made it.
