When you say the word arcade, most people have visions of pixel eating monsters, but there was another time, a time before... Long before video games there were arcades. Arcades that were filled with fascinating machines that demonstrated the latest technology. Machines engineered to attract players and to entice the uninterested into dropping a penny, nickle, dime, and later a quarter in the slot. These were some of the most amazing entertainment machines produced. Unfortunately, many of them no longer exist. These games represent a special part of history. A time when looming war and the promise of victory, economic strife of the Depression, and social change permeated society including the games people played. Today these machines are among the most collectable and rarest games. This book looks at the advertisements and flyers that were used to promote these games. Manufacturers used these flyers and ads to convince arcade operators to buy their products. These ads were made long before the glitz of four color printing was the standard. They relied on selling the sizzle by promising the latest advancements in game design and the potential to make the operator a lot of money. This collection includes games from the 1930's to the 1940's. There are also some coin-op devices such as video jukeboxes from the 50's and 60's. There are also some advertisements related to the carnival industry which used the same machines as the arcade industry.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. OUT OF PRINT The early Lambeth figures of John Broad, Leslie Harradine, Mark Marshall and George Tinworth continue to make gains in the market place. It is almost impossible to find a Tinworth figure for less than $2,000, while his classic pieces are in the five figure category. Nokes Vellum figures, produced at Burslem, have increased in value over 10th edition prices. The early figures in the HN Series, from HN1 to approximately HN2000, have basically increased in value. This, of course, does not include the long run figures such as the Balloon Lady, Top o the Hill, etc. Character figures such as the Carpet Seller, Orange Vendor and The Cobbler are experiencing a weakening demand. It is the middle section of HN numbers from approximately HN2000 to HN3000 that have come under pressure from on-line auction sales. It is the supply of figures in this bracket which experienced the great demand of the 1960s and 1970s as the pre-boomers entered the collectable field with gusto. It is these collections that are now being offered for sale on on-line auctions resulting in the supply overtaking the demand. The HN Series of the last twenty years, lets say HN3000 to HN4800, are basically short issued and are either holding or increasing in value. More figures than ever are being issued annually. In 2005 over 125 new HN numbered figures were issued. However, the number of limited edition pieces is increasing, with the issue period being shorter, which makes an interesting case for the secondary market. The 2005 figure Lawrence of Arabia (HN4695) by Alan Maslankowski, with a limited edition of 50 pieces carried on the modern Prestige series which began in 2002. We now have four figures in this series. Other series introduced in 2005 are Best of the Classics, Chic Trends, Natural Beauty, Petites and Street Vendors. All prices have been reviewed and updated for the 11th edition. In some cases, between markets we have the foreign exchange difference playing a major factor.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We send our gratitude to the legal departments at Sears, Montgomery Ward, and J.C. Penney for their permission to reprint the Barbie pages from their Christmas catalogs from 1966 to 1968. Special thanks to former Mattel designer -- Carol Spencer -- who once again came to our rescue and allowed us to use her priceless personal collection of Mattel catalogs for reprinting. Carol is always supportive in our pursuit to further enlighten Barbie doll collectors. A. Glenn Mandeville, our Price Guide Editor and the most pre-eminent Barbie scholar and authority, shot the cover and title pages for this edition. We think that you will agree that Glenn's love for our favorite fashion model doll comes through loud and clear in his Fabulous photos. Take a look at the costume sections in the 1966 and 1967 Mattel catalogs. You'll notice that except for an occasional Midge (or Twist 'N Turn in 1967), most of the models are red lipped American Girls with silky hair or side part American Girls with red lips. No wonder these gorgeous dolls have become highly sought after by collectors around the world. They make every costume look simply gorgeous, darling! Perhaps these catalogs will influence you to start to collect something you previously overlooked like the darling Tutti and Todd dolls, or Ken's fashions. Your certain to find the brightly colored mod-influenced '67 and '68 fashions enticing. Challenge yourself. Look for variations, or materials of costumes that were never produced. Become a super sleuth and test your knowledge. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned Barbie doll collector, take the time to learn. That is how we sharpen our mental skills and get more enjoyment out of life. We enter our 12th year of publishing with the same goal we had when we started -- we strive to be your collecting connection. Sharing beautiful photos and information about vintage and new dolls, offering you exciting projects, and showcasing you the collector, your clubs, and your talents makes publishing Barbie Bazaar a delight. Thank you. Sincerely, Karen Caviale & Marlene Mura, Publishers

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. INTRODUCTION: Dear Reader, We are pleased and excited to present our second Special Edition! Celebrate Barbie's 35th Anniversary year by travelling back in time to 1959 when the very first Mattel sales brochure on Barbie doll was avail- able. Relive the excitement you felt as a kid picking out the Barbie dolls and outfits that topped your Christmas wish lists from the Sears, Mont- gomery Ward and J.C. Penney catalogs! The dream lives on! For more scholarly pursuits, this 268 page reference edition of Barbie Bazaar Magazine, serves as the most comprehensive resource available to the collector for documenting the vast Barbie doll line from 1959 to 1965. We think that collectors and toy/doll dealers alike will use this valuable resource again and again and again. We extend our thanks to Mattel, Inc. for giving us permission to reprint the pages of the old Mattel catalogs in this special edition. We send our gratitude to the legal departments at Sears, Montgomery Ward, and J . C. Penney for their permission to reprint the Barbie pages from their Christmas catalogs from 1960 to 1965. Heartfelt thanks to veteran Mattel designer. Carol Spencer who let us use her personal collection of Mattel catalogs for reprinting. We scrambled for years to purchase all of the old Mattel catalogs. Carol came to our rescue so that we could share all of this wonderful refer- ence information with you. Barry Sturgill, our primo photographer, shot the cover and title pages for this edition. We are sure that you'll agree his lovely photos make this issue spectacular! You'll notice that the early years of Barbie, particularly 1959, 1960 and 1961 generated a lot less catalog space. As the phenomenon of the Barbie doll grew, the line flourished, more companies were licensed and consequently, more space was devoted to Barbie in both the Mattel catalogs and in the major retail Christmas catalogs from 1963-1965. Novice or seasoned collectors will enjoy see- ing the developments in the line, the type and variety of licensed products and the variations! HINT! Look for the blonde Fashion Queen and the red hot rod! Many of you will see at least a few things that you never saw before. We strive to be your collecting connection. Sharing knowledge, showcasing you—the collector, your clubs and your talents makes publishing Barbie Bazaar a delight. Thank you. Sincerely, Karen Caviale & Marlene Mura, Publishers  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Most of us have heard the story of Barbie's creative inspiration. Ruth Handler, Barbie's mom and one of the co-founders of Mattel Inc., watched daughter Barbara dress her grown-up paper dolls over and over again until they were in tatters. Ruth assessed the current toy market and envisioned a new doll	a three dimensional fashion model that little girls could dress and put in a variety of play situations. In 1957, Mattel explored the feasibility of establishing production facilities in the Orient to save money in manufacturing this new doll and other products. This is where our story begins. A collaborative effort was required by several groups in Japan to make the first molds for the Barbie doll. Kokusai Boeki Kaisha Ltd. coordinated the entire Barbie doll project. Charlotte Johnson, an American fashion designer, was brought to Tokyo to create Barbie doll's first wardrobe -- twenty-one costumes. Kokusai Boeki hired a local seamstress to assist her. Prototype dolls, and sample costumes had to be approved in the States and sent back to Japan for manufacturing. Some rejects appear in the Barbie collecting world as a special class. Mass production of Barbie products began in Japan in 1959 and continued through 1972. Barbie dolls and costumes were first available for Japan's domestic market in 1962. The majority of Barbie products sold in Japan were the same as the ones sold in the States. Interestingly, costumes have surfaced in Japan that were variations of those sold in the U.S., made from the same pattern but with different fabrics. Dolls like side part bendable leg Barbie with Twist `N Turn era vinyl, side part bubble cuts with this same pink skin were sold in Japan, but not in America. How did this happen? For a number of reasons differences in production schedules, a lack of inspecting requirements, and a "waste not, want not" attitude in using up bolts of fabric. Now, in Keiko Kimura Shibano's "Barbie In Japan," you can vicariously enjoy these rare Japanese dolls and fashions.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: This collectors reference details Soviet Russian Tokarev TT Pistols & Cartridges made between 1929-1953. Includes markings, holsters and cartridge information. Publishers Description: F.V. Tokarev is unique in small arms history, through having had small arms of his design in three basic categories officially adopted as his nation's martial weapons: one light machine gun, two variant pistols and three models of self-loading rifles. This volume details Tokarev's successful side trip into the handgun field despite his specialty in rifle development, and the fact that none concerned, including Tokarev himself, was satisfied with the results of his Colt-Browning-based designs. The original "Tula-Tokarev Model 1930" ("TT-30") self-loading pistol was adopted three years before its initial production, and some five years prior to design finalization as the "TT-33." Its entire manufacturing life span totaled eleven years, five of which occurred in wartime. Included herein is a chapter covering the rare and heretofore unpublished small-caliber Tokarev - Seveyogin pistol variations and, for the first time in print, the complete official Soviet Russian key to the heretofore undecipherable small arms and ammunition "year-date-code" letters of the 1950s, two precedent-setting firsts.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. BOOK NOTES: This small book is a stunning photographic journal of the art glass of the two master Italian artists Massimo Nordio and Vittorio Ferro. The photography truly does justice to their creations, and instills in the glass connoisseur the desire to hold these pieces personally and examine their intricacies in perfect light. The preface to the book is written in both Italian and English. ---- copyright 2004, Collector Bookstore, John K, Reviewer PUBLISHER'S DESCRIPTION: Over the last few years, glass designer and collector Massimo Nordios attention has gradually turned almost exclusively to a historically fascinating type of glass with an ancient tradition on Murano: the so-called avventurina. Avventurine is a glass paste of brown or reddish color, studded with a myriad of small yellow-golden sparkling specks which are nothing other than suspended copper crystals. For this reason it is also called astrals. Presented here are more than 60 photographs of Nordios stunning designs. Undoubtedly, the high quality of these glass works is also due to the renowned skill of the maestro who blew them, Vittorio Ferro. Massimo Nordio and Vittorio Ferro have worked in perfect harmony it is, perhaps, correct to state that the success of this collection has been due to their sound artistic relationship.  Gorgeous True Flow Blue antique plate in good condition with outstanding flow blue color.
