Each tile measures roghly 5 3/4" square and is 3/4" thick. These were originally designed to be used in fireplaces, but could certainly be adapted for other projects. The design is a repeating 4 flower, vine and leaves. Some of the tiles are marked, and others are not. All are definitely Claycraft. These tiles all have some flaws, some minor and some a little more. A few have corner chips, most have some wear to high areas, two have large areas of chipping on the outside vertical areas. These are great if you want to do a restoration project, and outdoor area, a smaller table top. Some are in very decent condition – please do look through the photos. (#2051)

Biot is a small town located in the Provence area, nobody is really sure how old the city is, the first document referring to it was some manuscripts from the 11th century. Biot was mostly known during the 16th to the 18th century as a pottery center. In the middle part of the 20th century, Biot started to change its activity to glasswork for which the city is today well known. This boldly made Jar is typically decorated with a large frieze with geometrical patterns and the famous BIOT stamp. Note a large hole at the bottom to drain water. Minor chips can be seen here and there. Circa date 1950. Dimensions 18"high/ 15"diameter (base).  Please Take 50% Off The Featured Price. Made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company in Zanesville, Ohio, this tile is part of their Alhambra line. It's made from a hard white porcelain clay. The tile measures 6" high by 4" wide. It has a number on it, and depending on which way you orient this, it can be the number 6 (six) or the number 9 (nine). Bright robins egg blue background with the number in white. Generally in nice condition. Circa 1910. Great to use as a house number! (#1823)

Made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, in Zanesville, Ohio - this antique tile is part of their line of Alhambra tiles. It is simply the letter K. Measures 6" x 4" and is 1/2" thick. I've always thought of these as "alphabet tiles"! Chip on upper left corner, backside upper right corner and minor nips on bottom corners. Circa 1910. Frame this and give a true antique tile to someone whose initial is "K"! It's certainly more unique than a monogrammed towel! (#1306)

This is an unusual set of vintage solid cast brass andirons that date from the early 1960s. Their C-scroll and floral design is well suited to any decor. Condition: near mint, no damage.

Andirons bring back a classic tradition from a time when fireplaces were the heart of the home. Placed inside the fireplace, they hold the logs allowing sufficient air to circulate and thus prevent smothering the fire and making fires easier, safer and much more enjoyable.

Finial size = 22 inches square x 14 inches high As the story was told to me, this old tin finial, along with several other very similar decorative finials, once graced the roof-line of an old building in the city of Baltimore. Supposedly, the building was built in the early 1900's not far from the docks that connected Baltimore to the Atlantic Ocean by way of the Chesapeake Bay. Unfortunately, many years later the building was abandoned and soon fell into disrepair. Somewhere around the early 1980's, the structure was torn down to make way for sweeping renovations that eventually became what many of us now know as Baltimore's Inner Harbor. To get back to the story, a group of these finials were loaded into a scrap bin, destined for the salvage yards. It was nothing but pure luck that they were spotted by one of the construction workers who pulled the battered metal pieces from the ruins and took them home. These pieces were never repaired or put to use by the man who saved them and it wasn't until after his death that they were uncovered once again. This time the old finials were found inside several large cardboard boxes that had been tucked away under a workbench in the garage of the man who found them. The garage was part of his estate and became the property of his only son. Sometime later, they ended up here with me. There is no doubt that time left its mark on these old pieces of tin. Their paint has peeled and the metal has nearly all separated at the joints. These pieces were in rough shape when they were first found and in even rougher shape when they finally got to me. Even so, when I saw them, I decided they were too nice to throw away. In the end I came to the conclusion that the only way these finials could be restored without destroying their natural patinas with the heat and other preparation it would take to solder or weld them back together was to glue them. So we clamped all four sides of each piece around some makeshift supports, then tape the pieces back together, first on the outside, then on the inside, until finally they were strong enough that we could coat all the seams on the inner side with heavy construction grade glue. Judging by the finished job that stands before me now, I would have to say the idea turned out to be a winner. No matter how many years it may yet take before this old metal finally rusts to pieces and falls away like dust. Then the glue will be all that remains. The base of this piece measures 22 inches square the finial stand 14 inches tall as shown. I'm glad these fine old remnants of the past could be saved, not lost to us forever as happens far too often with far too many fine old pieces of our history. Here's a thought I had. As you view this final you will notice how the bottom edges are a bit roughed up. The tin is somewhat bent and there is also some tarpaper residue stuck on the metal in some places. If you find this is not to your liking, I would offer this suggestion. A wood trim, sort of like baseboard trim used in most houses, could easily be cut to fit around the bottom of this finial. The wood could even be stained or painted to match your existing trim. This is something we would be glad to discuss further with you if you'd like.  At one time, I thought I would need these for putting around larger tiles for their display. I have all I need now though! This is two, unopened packages of plate hangers. These are a large size - and stretch from 14" - 18". There are a total of 20 hangers. Brass. Unused condition. (#T-1937)  What a wonderful kitchen tile insert this piece would make! It's a hand painted Italian tile, and the scene is a smiling sun face. Signed in the lower left - it says Desuir. This is a large tile, measuring 11 3/4" x 6" by 3/4" thick. This is glazed on all sides and the edges. Retains its original paper label. Probably newer, but a nice rustic example of a hand made tile in the old world Italian tradition. (#T-2034)

A great brocade tile made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, this is from circa 1920. This is a pomegranate. Done in dark green glaze over buff clay. Measures 4" top to bottom and 4" across at the widest part, and is 7/8" thick. Generally very nice condition - very minor nips on edges. (We do have another one of these for sale as well - in a slightly different color). (#T-1288)

The Portor marble is originally from Italy, the quarry opened in the Antiquity, such marble has been commonly used by the French during the 17th & 18th Century and during the Art Nouveau period mostly for Mantle & Fireplace and Objets d’Art. The mantle is handmade and is slightly embellished with recessed panels and delicate molding. Note several minor scratches and dents all around the piece due to the age. Circa date 1780.  Now this is a very interesting glass lightning rod topper in bright, transparent orange that has spent the last 25 years or so inside as part of a local store display. The display stand is also with this neat piece, but is not a must to take if you would rather save some money on shipping.

This finial, or pendant, or topper is an unusual bright orange color, sort of a mix between orange and amber. The finish appears to be applied to the glass, not mixed into it, but it is in good condition and judging by the thickness and imperfections in the glass itself, I am pretty sure this is a fairly old piece. Would be nice with a little l.e.d. light tucked up inside.

This nicely molded tile by Claycraft Potteries of Los Angeles, California, measures 3 ¾" x 1 ¾" x 5/8" thick. The design is 3 bunches of flowers with a vine coming up out of a bowl. Hard to capture the subtle colors, the background is a brown slip, and the glazes are pale blue on the bowl and the tendril with leaves coming from the top. The two flowers on the left have some pink or salmon in the crevices. In generally very good condition - minor chip on left side edge. From the mid 1920’s. (#2024)

This is a set of 4 border tiles, made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, of Doylestown, PA, circa 1920. Each hand made tile measures approximately 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" inches. Three of the tiles are in very good condition, and the fourth one has a rather large chip. Two of the good ones are done in blue and cream with red flush, the third one has a reddish hue over the entire tile, and the fourth one with the chip is green and cream with red flush. Great for a table, or as paperweights, or in an installation. (#1556)

This good looking old architectural piece is another finial or cupola topper. It is made of tin that was soldiered together and then attached to the peak of some type of finial. Likely this was once part of the peak on the tower of some old Victorian home or fastened to an old barn cupola. The tin is old and I have the feeling it is getting too brittle to last much longer outside in the elements, but could serve admirably in some indoor display. A rare old tin finial that likely dates to the roaring 20's.  Here is a neat old piece from about the 1940's. This good looking little 8 inch tall red rooster was actually standing on top of a weathervane finial or old barn cupola. He is worn some and there is a hairline crack in the base across his feet, but there is no movement and the area of the crack is solid and stable, so it has likely been this way for a long time and will be this way for a lot longer. The little Rooster still has a lot of his original black undercoating and red topcoat of paint in tact. He is hollow, but heavily cast, making him rather weighty for such a small piece. With a lot of good detailing, use your imagination to think up uses for this nice little rooster.

Condition is good overall. Doesn’t look like it has ever been restored, but it’s sound. And it still works, so it can be functional as well as decorative. Great size for a small space.

1930s 30s thirties  What makes this border tile so unusual is the mark. The Mosaic Tile Company, in Zanesville, Ohio, produced some terrific tiles - and this is a very nice heavy border tile, with a rope design, and semi matte green glazes. Measures 6" and sits 1" high - one minor glaze chip near one end. The mark of the company is unusual - not the standard conjoined MTC logo - and one side bears hand written numbers. Circa 1920. (#1767)
