Architectural Antiques: Weather Vanes

What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Architectural Antiques: Weather Vanes?

Vintage Lighting Rods Hardware. Some of the Hardware: 8 Insulated Nails Size 2, 2 Copper Item, 20 Copper U Brackets. Came from Lighting Rod Box Lot, sold at a Estate Sale. Vintage Lighting Rod Hardware and this is my Last Lot! Please e-mail me with any Questions!! Shipping includes Delivery Confirmation!!!  The cute little copper Reindeer Weathervane figure isn’t old enough to be an antique, but he’s not to far from qualifying. I’ve had this little guy around the shop for at least the last ten years and he was already more than a few years old when I got him. I’ve set him up at Christmas time for a number of years, but I think it’s time he has a more permanent home where perhaps he’ll be put on display on a more regular basis. The deer is made from two pieces of copper sheet which were formed and then soldered together to give the little guy his three dimensional figure. The post holding him is copper and the base of the display is solid brass and quite heavy enough to make the piece stable. The reindeer is 11 inches long and 18 inches tall from the brass base to the tip of the reindeer’s antlers. The green color is not one I applied, but rather a heavy patina caused by the piece being kept in my shop, which is in the somewhat dampish basement of a large old warehouse. The lack of heat and the dampness from summer humidity resulted in the very deep and thick coating of age patina on the copper figure. I think he looks great like that.   Unusual weathervane topper depicting Mr. Weiner Dog, also known as a Dachshund. The vane topper is made of cast white metal painted black, and still has a good deal of the original black paint in tact. The little dog stands 9 inches high and is 13 inches across. The piece has an integral mounting shaft made to fit onto a piece of 1/2 inch round copper pipe. Nice vintage, weathered figural for display inside or out.  A figure you rarely see, yet one that is recognized by almost everyone. This nicely made copper Mother Goose figure is in very good condition. Unlike many of the weathervane figures which are riddled with small caliber bullet holes, perhaps the fact that the would be shooters recognized old Mother Goose is what kept her from being targeted.?

Nearly 25 inches from arrow tip to tail, this hollow copper weathervane stands almost 22 inches tall. This sale is for the item shown only, but if you would like a stand and perhaps even a lightning ball, please let us show you what we can supply to match.

Here we have a lovely emerald green lightning rod ball featuring quilted glass in excellent condition. The heavy glass ball was likely made by George Thompson around 1930 and is still in great, undamaged condition with only light wear and with both original brass caps firmly attached. The ball has some haziness, but other than a little dirt inside, as well as outside, the ball is unscathed by time's passing. It measures 5 inches round and the glass is heavy and thick. This will make a great addition to someone's collection.    Another extremely nice antique copper horse which fortunately has not had his excellent age patina cleaned away. The horse is just shy of 30 inches long from nose to tail and from the feet of the base to the highest part of the horse, this weathervane stands over 52 inches tall. There are no names or markings to identify the maker of this large copper horse, but he is almost twice as heavy as the reproduction versions that seen to be everywhere, especially the internet. I personally guarantee this horse is a real antique. It is simply not possible to make a new piece age as evenly as this old fellow has. The 4 inch copper ball that was original to this vane, offers further proof by how well it has aged and is a match to the horse. If you are looking for a fine original antique horse figural weathervane, this is a great choice.  Here is a great vintage piece that anyone would be proud to put on display. This wonderful old vane features a fine looking horse made of solid cast aluminum, prancing on top of a large, fancy cast aluminum arrow. You can see traces of the original black paint in a few small places, but most of this big fellow's finish has been changed by the passing of time and the effects of oxidation to become the lovely tan mixed with gray patina that you see pictured. The horse and arrow still fit solidly onto the original mounting post. Fact is, you could place this sturdy weathervane on your rooftop and display it there confidently for all to see. Or, if you not willing to expose your new four legged friend to more years of changing weather, you could choose to invite him inside, where I'm sure we can help you find a base or stand that fits in with your plans and holds the vane securely; ( if you'll tell us what you have in mind, we'd love to show you our authentic cupolas, tin finials and assorted other vintage base pieces that are currently in stock. ) This solid, all original weathervane came to us exactly as shown. The fact that this vane is missing one of its four directional letters; (S) wasn't nearly reason enough for us to replace this beautifully styled and perfectly fitted original piece with another directional set. ( If you do not feel as we do about the directional, let us know. We will be glad to show you available options.) The only piece of the great weather vane we did need to replace is the lightning ball. The original ball was also white glass and shaped just like this one, but it was too badly damaged to use. Fortunately we had this nearly identical match in stock and replaced the broken ball with another one that is period original. The ball you see in the photos is four and one half inch round and is made of thick, milky white glass. While we had everything apart, we added brass end caps that correctly fit this ball to protect as it moves. At the same time we added a small brass extension collar over the main rod shaft and used it to lift the ball just an inch or so higher above the directionals than the original had been We did this to create a bit of separation so all parts of the vane can more easily be seen and enjoyed. The proud old horse standing way up on top of this classic weathervane measures eight and a half inches from nose to tail and the arrow he is prancing across is roughly eighteen inches long. Over all the entire piece is thirty six inches high. All of us here at Picker's think this is a terrific weathervane. Dating back to just after the end of the second World War, yet still able to be sold in almost untouched condition. ......and best of all............. this fine old weathervane has its best years still to come .

Now here’s a fine looking chicken that even the old Kentucky Colonial would have been proud to call his own. I can easily imagine this high stepping Rooster , strutting his stuff around the hen house, while all the girls sat in their nests looking all dreamy eyed.

Ok, maybe it is a bit of a stretch, but you have to admit this is a really great looking old copper weathervane. Yes it has some of the typical problems that go along with its age. The solder joint on the front of his back leg has come apart a bit and his front foot isn’t anchored to the cross bar like it was back in his early days. Even the poor old fellow’s tail feathers are a bit loose for a few inches where they are seamed onto his body, but on the plus side, just look how distinguished he’s gotten with age. Not to mention the deep, rich patina that’s formed as time passed on by. In other words, I wouldn’t think it a wise idea to fasten him high up on a roof somewhere without first having him undergo a bit of repair to his hot tin joints, but if your idea of a new home for our old friend falls along lines of a less demanding lifestyle for this grand old bird, he is plenty tough enough to fill the need.

Construction = two heavy sheets of copper, formed and matched into a full bodied, hollow figure of a rooster, hot tin soldered together and mounted on a pipe frame by means of soldering.

Measurements = 16 wide by 21 tall by 3 thick where largest.

Age = No way to be absolutely certain, but judging by his weight and the aging of the copper, he is likely at least 40 to 50 years old. Perhaps more.

The classic design is just part of what makes this such a great ball for your collection. The raised maker markings are excellent and go nearly all the way around the ball's center. WC Shinn on one side and Lincoln Neb. on the other are easily read from a distance and on top of all this ball has going for it, you can add the handywork of some youngster with a BB gun who targeted the old ball and left his mark in the glass. From the look of the ball before we cleaned it up a bit, I'd say the BB hole was there for most of this ball's life. 4 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall, this is a true classic.

This auction is for the vintage lightning rod ball shown in the pictures. This piece features 6 crescent moons and 6 stars with a diamond pattern at its waist. It is in a blue swirled slag or milk glass. The body is excellent, with no visible damage, but as is so common on this old lightning balls, both ends have chips and rough edges. Fortunately the copper end caps cover this damage completely. A nice vintage ball, ready to be used again as intended, or shown off in your collection!!

PS> I like to add a small light bulb inside these glass balls. They give off a lovely glow.

a very rare antique copper running horse weathervane with a solid cast metal head. This gorgeous antique galloping horse weathervane comes fresh from small farm in Louisiana where the former owner spent her life raising and training horses. The horse shows a good deal of aging from being outside for so long. Fortunately no one decided the weathervane needed to be cleaned and polished, so that great age patina is still in tact. The horse's head is made of a heavier metal, lead, zinc, or cast brass. The body is hand formed from two sheets of heavy copper and hot lead soldered together into this fine looking trotting horse. The vane has it's original mounting which is one that can be attached with two lags almost anywhere you'd like. This is a very nice piece of American history and one that will continue to gain value and continue to become harder and harder to find at any price.  This antique roof top lightning collector is quite nice. Not only does it have the old blue glass insert in the arrow tail, it has an extremely unique and attractive stand, complete with spiral lighting rod shaft and a three sided, screw on shape tip. The whole piece stands 54 inches tall and the arrow is 17 inches from tip to tail. The lightning ball is old, very thick and heavy white milk glass. Sturdy and strong, this old lightning rod and weathervane arrow, along with the stand could still be mounted on your rooftop, or it can be used in a thousand other possible ways to decorate inside or outside of your home.  There are some items, so rare.... So beautiful.... So desirable or unique that to some of us they are like a treasure. If we know someone who has such a piece, we tend to think of one right along with the other. For example, if something you or I see reminds us of our friend, we are quick to remember the precious piece they possess. The same association also applies in reverse. If we think about the piece, in an instant, memories come to mind of the object's owner. I'm sure by now you are wondering, 'What concern is any of this to me?' ...... Well, Simply because the old Copper Pig pictured below is just like that unbelievably desirable piece owned by our fortunate friend. I consider this pig a real treasure. This vintage weathervane, formed in the shape of a very unique pig, is the kind of treasure you see once and never forget. The first time I saw this old pig I just fell in love with it. Usually I have to look at a piece like this several times, over a period ranging from days to weeks to decide how I feel, but just one look was enough for this beautiful old weathervane to captivate me. The craftsman who formed and shaped this unusual piece was truly an artist. Each new detail that you notice seems to add more life to this great old copper sculpture and what I find to be most astounding is how the stains and patina formed as the sculpture aged have themselves somehow contributed even more amazingly lifelike details. I look at this pig and swear I am able to see faint traces of veins and muscles beneath the texture of this animal's hide. At times I am almost convinced this pig is alive. Not only is this weathervane a gorgeous work of art, it is large and heavy piece that remains as solid as the day it was created. From the tip of our pig's short, curly tail to the end of its snout, this piece measures a full thirty inches in length and eighteen and a half inches from the mounting bar to the rump. A half inch round, 22 inch long piece of copper tubing makes his base and at the center another piece of half inch copper tube extends downward for two and a half inches, which provides a connecting point for whatever type stand or mounting base you might choose. After you have fallen in love with this charming creature, I hope you will stay with us a little while longer so you can browse through our shop. There you will see other great pieces that offer some examples of the various types of accessories and bases we have available. And remember, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean we don't have it tucked away in the back room somewhere, so feel free to ask. We would love to answer any questions you have, or perhaps we can offer some advice to help you choose just the right fittings or accessories that will transform this wonderful pig into your own unique treasure.

Free Shipping inside Continental US  Here is a very nice looking old Rooster Weathervane and white ribbed glass lightning rod ball that likely date to the time period between World Wars I and II. Time has caused the two piece hollow copper body of our large rooster to change into a lovely reddish brown age patina that fortunately has been left undisturbed by the previous owner. The bird itself measures 22 inches wide by over 20 inches tall and is over three inches thick at his widest parts. The tin solder that was used to join his two piece body together remains in very sound condition and with one foot and the center rod still firmly attached to the base rod, I don'y think old Mr. Rooster is going to come loose from his perch any time soon. The white ribbed ball measures 4 1/2 inches round and is also an early, original lightning rod accessory. There are some areas of roughness and very minor damage to the edges where the copper post goes through the center, but otherwise the ball has no sign of cracks and comes with two copper end caps that cover the damage completely as well as protect the ends from any further problems. Mr. Picker found the great old tin hanging light cover we have pictured which he matched it up as the base for this great old folk art sculpture, however if you would prefer a traditional three legged iron lightning rod roof stand for the base, we have that pictured as well and will supply which ever you prefer at the same price. Just let us know. All together our wonderful copper Rooster vane stands 39 inches high and no matter if you display this old bird inside or out, he is sure to be admired by firends, neighbore and family for many years to come.

Here is another glass lightning rod or weather vane ball that is absolutely gorgeous. This antique ball started out in life a plain white milk glass color, then was changed by time and the light of the sun into this wonderful mix of swirling amethyst shades. There is some wear around the collars, but the copper caps are more than enough to keep them safe. measurement on this ball 4 1/2" round x 5 1/2 " end to end . Once you've decided on where to display this classic old piece of americana, try putting a tiny light up inside of it. I think you'll love the way it glows.

Wow, this is a great looking old sheet metal tin cut out weathervane that is really hard Not to notice. This Big Red Plane vane has a 44 inch wingspan and is close to 45 inches long. The part I like best is the airplane propeller. The windmill style construction and the fact that the all metal arbor can be greased, allows the 16 inch wide propeller to spin freely in just a light breeze. The weathervane also features a blue milk glass lightning ball as well as a smaller copper ball at the top of the shaft. Old paint is in good shape and it looks like there are a few more coats of paint underneath. This airplane weather vane likely dates to about the 1950's and someone probably added the plastic reflective letters on each side. Even the way these letters are mounted shows how skilled the maker was at metalworking. You have a choice of stands for the plane. You may choose either an antique three leg roof stand, or a display stand like the one pictured.  On Sale Now... but only for a limited time.

Fantastic! Rare. Wonderful. Lifelike. Historic. A jewel from the past. These are just a few of the thoughts that came to mind as I sat down to write this description. Perhaps in the end it will be the pictures themselves that are able to fully and most fittingly describe this beautiful old copper weathervane figure of a full size Canadian Goose in flight. Long ago this bird began as two separate sheets of copper that were hand crafted and then carefully matched to one another and joined by tin solder to create this incredibly lifelike goose. Imagine how this majestic bird must have looked to a passer by, flying above the roof of some wonderful old house in 19th Century New England. Incredible.

The body of this large bird measures 29 inches from tip to tail and the distance from the top of the left wing down to where the body joins the mounting tube is 17 inches. Only copper was used to create this fine old weathervane goose and as the years rolled by, the copper naturally darkened with age as a gorgeous patina of verdigris formed to create the beautifully deep brown copper of this great vane.

The vane has an old repair where the goose sits on top of the small copper ball. Normally this ball would be loose, but evidently the goose split at the solder joint on the bottom and the previous owner soldered her back together and attached the ball to her permanently. Very solid work.

No matter how you choose to display this stunning antique goose; Inside or out, one thing is a certainty, this piece is nothing short of a work of art and deserves a chance to be appreciated, delighted in and most of all, displayed.

NOTE: The base used to display this old weathervane is a rough sawn piece of 2inch thick walnut that was actually part of the barn's construction and dates to the 1860's. We did not add any sort of finish, leaving that choice to the new owner.

When it comes to antique and vintage architectural pieces, there is just no end to the treasures waiting to be discovered here at at Picker's Treasures.  Here we have a restored and refurbished cottage size weathervane arrow with a nice little gold colored harness horse and jockey adorning the arrow's tail. The piece is a little loose where the mount for the harness racers attaches to the arrow shaft and rather than risk ruining it by trying to repair the connection, we decided to put together a nice little display stand for use as an indoor feature decoration. The entire piece stands 14 inches high and the the width is 18 inches from arrow tip to the end of the jockey's cart. The weathervane display is mounted on a nice piece of stained oak roughly 7 by 20

Here is a large and very attractive antique cast iron weathervane arrow with a extremely nice looking red tin biplane attached to the tail end. The plane has lost some of its original red paint and white lettering, but is still in wonderful condition and would make an excellent display for any airplane enthusiast. The whole piece measures 29 inches long and the plane is 12 by 12 by 5 inches tall. These came to us in a large box of misc. parts and pieces and based on the dimensions and the original points where the two were connected, we are certain this arrow and this plane were originally one unit, so we reattached and restored them to original configuration.  Three Dimensional Cow Weather Vane.

Solid Cast Metal

Overall total length 18 inches. The Cow is 6 inches Tall x 9 inches Long and about 1/2 inch Thick. A small amount of the paint has chipped away , but this piece has no damage and is very solid and sturdy. The classic cow figure is permanently mounted to the arrow shaft and could be used indoors or out. Really a great vintage weathervane and arrow for someone to display.

This is a great old piece. An old copper weathervane with a huge antique pig figure standing proudly on top. The pig, directionals and ball are all made of thick sheets of real copper that was formed, then fitted together and finally joined into three dimensional form by using hot molten lead to solder the parts together. From the bottom of the pole to the top of Mr. Pig is roughly 5 feet and the big fellow himself is a full 29 inches from nose to tail. You can see the weathervane has a fair amount of wear from being outside, but it also has a gorgeous old age patina and is a true classic among weathervanes.  On Sale Now... but only for a limited time.

This extra large weathervane features a one of a kind Sailing Ship cut from heavy iron sheet. Was this Tall Ship under the control of Pirates? The piece has a heavy aged rust patina which really looks great. This sailing ship appears to be floating atop the sea on its way to a new world. The vane can be shipped with the display stand as shown, or with a traditional antique roof mount stand. The lightning ball is white milk glass and the stand as well as the arrow tail and tip are old copper. 44 inches long from tip to tail and the ship itself measuring 16 inches + above the waves, this is a very impressive old weathervane that is a one of a kind, handmade antique. Talk about a big time Witch. This old sheet iron cut-out of a Witch flying on her Broomstick is huge. The old girl measures three feet long and 2 feet tall at her highest point. Placed on top of an antique lightning rod, ball, star topper and stand setup, the entire piece is over six feet tall; depending how you adjust the stand and pole.

We cleaned her up just a little and reattached one side on the pole supports where the rivet had come loose. That and replacing the rusted old wire that held her star on her hat with some new copper wire was all the work this durable old Halloween Icon needed. The piece is large and weighty, but is nicely balanced on the pole and can be used seasonally or year round in any number of different display options. Inside, outside, yard or rooftop, this exceptional old witch will be hard for anyone to miss seeing.   Here is an exceptional and almost certainly a one of a kind weathervane, lightning rod and ball that was salvaged from a condemned farmhouse and restored

to it's current state by JM Picker himself. The set is more than sturdy enough to go right back out onto a rooftop and if that is where you want to put it, we will

supply a roof mount stand in place of the interesting base JM chose on which to rebuild this piece of antique craftsmanship and art. The base is actually a silver plated

antique bread basket turned upside down and a hole cut through the base where the bolts attach that hold the entire piece together. The base has a unique springy feel to it, but is plenty strong and will not tip over. The leaves that make up the basket act a bit like springs if you bump against the piece.

The moon is made of solid brass and within it's dark center floats a clear glass lightning ball that has slowly turned to a soft purple over years of being touched by the sun. The star at the top is cast iron and measures roughly 4 by 4 inches and the center post is a piece of older 1/2 inch copper tubing. Overall as it is shown this weathervane and lightning rod display stands a little more than 3 feet tall. Wouldn't this make a fabulous piece to show off at your Halloween Party?

Just let us know if you want the display base as shown, or a suitable mounting base and we'll take care of it. We want shopping at Picker's to be fun and easy for you, so we'll try our best to help in anyway we can. Nice looking 40's or 50'd black iron Big Wheel Bicycle with seat in tact, mounted atop an old copper weathervane arrow and attached to a light maple, white wash toned wooden base. The base measures 29 inches by 7 inches and makes a perfect addition to turn this nice old painted iron bike into a great looking shelf or mantle display.  This gorgeous old lightning ball began its life as just another white round milk glass lightning ball, but through the years the sun changed the color to this wonderful swirled amethyst. If you look closely, you can see the different shades from top to bottom and especially the swirl on the ball at the lighter end. The glass is thick and heavy and the copper end caps cover the roughness at the ends. I like to use these with a small bulb as nightlights, but however you use this antique lightning ball it will not go unnoticed.

Vintage - Sky BLUE GLASS LIGHTNING ROD BALL

4 inches by 4 inches in diameter, this vintage lightning rod ball is made of heavy sky glass colored milk glass. The body is excellent, with no visible damage, but as is so common on these old lightning balls, both ends have some chips and rough edges. The copper end caps cover this damage completely and at the same time keep fingers safe while handling. A nice vintage ball, ready to be used again as intended, or shown off in your collection!

Note: I like to place a small light bulb inside these glass balls. They give off a lovely glow and make the perfect night light  A lovely color of sky blue milk glass, this nine-sided lightning ball was made prior to WWII by the D&S Company. This style is one of their more hard to find and this lightning ball is in good condition. The end holes have some slight damage, but the copper caps cover that up. Add a small light to the inside and you'll really enjoy the color and style of this antique blue lightning ball  Here is a small but very impressive old lightning rod with a cast iron arrow that has a great looking piece of red slag glass in the tail. The stand also hold an antique white milk glass lightning ball. All together this set measures only 16 inches wide by 18 inches tall, but it sure has a lot to offer in the small area it takes up.  If you look closely you'll see the differences between this old cast white metal Steam Train weathervane and the numerous modern replicas it has inspired. The variations are slight. Smoke coming from the stack... No coal car... nameless.. made of aluminum... The copies are good, but back in the 50's, this old cast metal weathervane locomotive was patterned after the steam engines that built this country. The only damage to this large vane is the directional letter S which was broken and repaired with rivets and a brace. They did a nice job. The locomotive and coal car measure 30 inches in length and although this steam engine comes with a sturdy base that would easily withstand years of being back out in the elements, I thought perhaps the old engine deserved a job on display somewhere out of the sun and wind and rain.

This is an an excellent old barn find. A beautiful white milk glass moon and stars lightning rod ball

in very good condition. It is hard to see in the photos, but the sun has actually caused some shading to this ball that gives it an amethyst tint. There is some wear around the collars, but the copper caps are more than enough to keep that problem covered and safe. Measurement on this ball 4 1/2" round x 5 1/2 " end to end. Once you've decided on where to display this classic old piece of Americana, think about putting a tiny light up inside of it. I think you'll love how they glow.  Once again we have been fortunate enough here at Picker's to find another wonderful antique weathervane sculpture that we can offer for sale to our customers. This great looking old copper eagle weathervane figure needed some cleaning and a little repair at some open solder joints, but here he is now, looking fabulous and ready to be sent to his new home. The bird is made of solid copper sheets that have been hand shaped, then hot lead soldered into a three-dimensional folk art creation. This eagle likely dates back to the 30's and has seen some bumps and bruises over the years, but he is strong and solid as ever and even more impressive now than when he was first crafted all those years ago. With a wingspan of 28 inches, this eagle will not go unnoticed no matter where you choose to display him. He can be shipped exactly as shown on this vintage porch post display base or we can substitute an antique tripod roof mount stand so you can use him outdoors. A fine example of the wonderful craftsmanship that went into making the antique weathervanes everyone likes so much.

I call him Tin Man. for obvious reasons, but one thing is certain, this wonderful old tin cupola that once sat atop a mid- western barn is a true antique rarity. You can see the bullet holes left by some trigger-happy gunman, but it does not detract from this great looking piece of American Architectural History. This would make a fabulous stand for any weather vane or lightning rod, or would be perfect just as it is. Tin man stands 42 inches tall and is 20 inches square at his base. Not heavy, just marvelous.  This was once a familiar sight. One hundred years ago you would often encounter the local doctor riding along the rutted roads with horse and carriage, on his way to visit Mr. Whodiwho, or Miss Whatshername. This small and well worn weathervane topper is made from a sheet of pot metal and still has perhaps 50 % of its original black paint. Use it as decor or buy one of our vintage cast pot metal mounts and we'll adapt the two pieces to fit perfectly together at no extra charge

Now whoever got to ride in this fancy horse drawn carriage, they were probably accustomed to being treated like royalty. Not only is there a driver all dressed up in coat and hat, a doorman is also riding along and he too is dressed in very formal attire. The entire piece measures 14 inches in length and is in good condition with some minor paint loss, but nothing broken or loose. Use it as decor inside or out. Someone mentioned how nice it would look attached to a mailbox. Whatever you do with this classic old cast metal piece, it will look great.   Here is a familiar site to most of us throughout North American. On the run, a white tailed deer moving gracefully through the countryside. The arrow and Loon are a one piece casting made from pot metal, which still has the majority of its original paint. There is some flaking and roughness, but is still in good condition. The arrow measures 18 inches from tip to tail and can be displayed just as is for a simple wall mounting, or we offer an antique cast pot metal roof mount that we will adapt for use with this vane. We also offer a set of directional indicators in vintage solid brass. Both of these accessories are listed below and sold separately so you can choose exactly the pieces you want.   On Sale Now! White Milk Glass LIGHTNING ROD BALL

This auction is for the vintage white lightning rod ball shown in the pictures. This piece is made of thick, heavy white milk glass. The body is excellent, with no visible damage, but as is so common on this old lightning balls, both ends have chips and rough edges. Fortunately the copper end caps cover this damage completely. A nice vintage ball, ready to be used again as intended, or shown off in your collection!!

PS. I like to add a small light bulb inside these glass balls. They give off a lovely glow.  Another great looking cast metal painted figural in 3D that dates all the way back to the 1950's, yet looks like brand new. This wonderful painted metal scene depicts brother with shotgun in hand and sister in tow going on a hunt in the woods. This is one of several similar outdoor decor pieces that we just purchased. These pieces were never used or were only used indoors as a decorations. The scene measures 7 inches tall and 11inches long and has a 3/4 inch wide base section with holes to fasten through. This would have either been used on a weathervane or perhaps as a mailbox topper. The colors are pure 50's and the piece is simply gorgeous. Over 50 and still this good looking? Better hurry.

I guarantee this great copper horse to be at least 50 years old, and likely more. Classic, highly detailed, large copper weathervane horse still firmly attached to his mounting rods. I'm sure this old fellow has seen his share of rough times and even has a few scars to prove it, but doesn't he look great anyway? I think so and I hope you do to. The full bodied figure is made of two pieces of heavy copper that was tin soldered together and mounted on a copper base rod. The rod measures 30 inches long and our friend Mr. Horse is 15 inches high. I've included some pictures to show the fine craftsmanship and detail in the work. I think you can tell just from these places that this is a real antique vane figure. A little beat up, a great age patina and still ready to run, this is a classic folk art weathervane horse that can only get better with time.  Another very old, antique, cast metal and zinc, full bodied trotting horse and his cast iron weathervane arrow.

Some folks attribute this type weathervane, with the fancy iron arrow and the lovely little horse attached behind it, to a group of large grain suppliers. Supposedly, these great old pieces were given as gifts to the farmers who grew the grains.

Specifications: The front half of the Arrow is made of cast iron and has a rusted patina finish. The round tube where the horse is attached is made of copper that has aged naturally to verdigris . The horse is made from some type of cast metal and has a thick old coat of whitewash protecting him from the elements. Overall Dimensions: * The arrow is 22 inches from its tip to the end of the mounting bar * The horse stands 7 1/2 inches high x 9 inches long and is attached to the mounting bar by at least three of his original posts.

Here is a cute little flat cut tin weathervane in the shape of a pig. The vane stands 27 inches tall and Mr. Pig measures 11 inches from his snout to his tail. There are no markings of any kind on the pig or the base, but judging by the condition of the metal, I'd say it's a safe bet this little guy has been around more than long wnough to be called an authentic antique. When I got this old fella there was an old iron fence finial stuck on the front end of the rod he stands on. It was loose, so I pulled it off and it is pictured both with and without, so you can choose how you prefer it best.

Know any pig collectors? Here is a great gift idea.  Gameboard is truly a folk art piece of Americana. This home made board was adhered to another old piece of wood with a hole in the board, not sure if that let the gameboard turn on the table or what? It is unusual in that it is 8 squares across and 8 down, I thought most were generally 12 squares up and down.

The board was painted in a cream color and the sqauares pencilled in and some painted red. Original paint.
