***I’ve included below a short Bio about the famous artist, M.B. Parkinson:

"Parkinson copyrighted his prints in 1897 and they were distributed by Taber-Prang Art Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1908, The Ohio Art Company began selling metal picture frames in which the Cupid prints were displayed, some of them hand tinted. Sold at Kresge’s, Sears, and Woolworth’s, people bought the frames for the pictures. The Cupids were immensely popular and were seen in millions of homes across the country. In 1938, Ohio Art Company (makers of Etch a Sketch) bought the copyright from Taber-Prang after their bankruptcy. Originally sold for a nickel or dime, the Cupid photos now command high prices, as much as $450 a pair in larger sizes."

Provenance; William G. Nixon III

William G. Nixon III, 88, of Greenwich passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township.

He was the son of the late Helen Kearns Roarke Nixon and the late William G. Nixon II. His father was a Philadelphia attorney. His great-grandfather, William G. Nixon, was past president of the Cumberland National Bank, and at that time, considered the leading financier of southern New Jersey.

Mr. Nixon was a lifelong resident of Cumberland County, raised in Bridgeton in the William G. Nixon home, 81 West Commerce Street. The home is described as having an Italian Villa influence. The structure has been described as plain Presbyterian. The home was built by William G. Nixon, 1851-1853. The architect was Thomas Water, who worked on both the Philadelphia Girard College and Capitol dome in Washington, D.C. buildings. Mr. Nixon owned this home until he sold it in 1977.

He attended Lawrenceville Academy, Bridgeton High School and the University of Pennsylvania. He was past president of Fralinger Salt Water Taffy in Atlantic City. Fralinger’s Salt Water Taffy thrived under his lead. Mr. Nixon served his country in the Army Signal Corps., during World War II, going abroad to the east coast of Africa.

Mr. Nixon moved to Greenwich after marrying his wife, Barbara Powers Nixon and they lived on Ye Greate Street. He was a former Bridgeton historian, an avid supporter of the Cumberland County Historical Society, the Warren E. Lummis Genealogical, Research Library in Greenwich and board member president of the Bridgeton Antiquarian League.

Huge 19th century shadow box framed Victorian woven human hair Memento Mori remembrance dated 1894.

Almost 3 feet long, this massive hair mourning memorial is in very nice condition.  Offered by Binghamton Bank, upper New York State, this wonderful portfolio of three 11 x 8 inch prints by artist William Grausgruber, features scenes familiar to the citizens of the Windsor area and the surrounding towns.

Most likely, this trio of prints was created during the 1960’s/1970’s time frame because the artist information included with the artwork speaks of Mr. Grausgruber teaching at Windsor Central High School. Current information describes him as being a retired educator.

The three prints are done on quality paper, ready for framing, and the artist’s signature appears near the bottom of the reproduced acrylic painting.

Maple Sugaring depicts a muted scene with one man and his horse working away at gathering the maple sugar. To be sure, this is not glamorous work, but rather, roll up your sleeves, and get down to business kind of work. Believe it takes lots of sugar maple trees to fill just one of those barrels with syrup.

Haying Time has a color palette of brown tones along with amber gold for the wheat. This painting reflects again just how physically demanding life on the farm really is. The well trained team of horses stand at attention while the man doing the haying is on the top of the wagon’s hay pile, making sure that the hay will stay securely in place when being transported to the barn and silo area. Two more men can be seen with their hands on pitchforks waiting to see whether more hay is needed or if the wagon has as much hay as it can hold for now.

The Chenango Canal could be one of Grausgruber’s River Print series. Soft green, yellow, browns and blue are the main colors seen on this print. The print depicts a 1900’s scene the artist has researched and also shows his familiarity with the area. The boat, with two passengers on the top deck, is making its way down the canal.

All 3 prints are in very fine vintage condition and do come in a 9 x 12 inch envelope printed with The Binghamton Savings Bank name and the title, Local Historical Paintings.  Antique Chinese Jade, depicting a cow. Skilful design, though it looks simple at first glance.

This is a marvelous antique hardwood oval plaque measuring 23 3/4 inches from top to bottom and 14 1/2 inches across its width. Remarkably, the wood is in very fine vintage condition without any dings or warping for its 100+ years of age.

The artist used the woodburning/pyrography technique to fashion the Gibson Girl portrait seen in the center of the plaque. Her hairdo with its softer curls and waves was quite a contrast from the earlier formal Victorian styling. The woodburning was also used to create the detailed vine and leaf edging that surrounds the inner portrait.

The back of this artistic wall hanging has the name Guida Wambler and is dated June 9, 06. We believe this may be the name of the lady in the portrait, with the artist’s signature on the left side of the plaque, hidden in her curls. It is difficult to decipher, perhaps reading Everban.

There is picture wire strung on the backside through two eye attachments, allowing for ease of display of this well-crafted, nostalgic artwork.

Cutes plaques showing frogs freshing up after a bath. Large plaque is 7" X 9" and the two smaller plaques are 3 3/4" X 4 1/4". The varnish is crackling on all plaques, but just makes it look old. Has "1987" as the age.   The white out scene surrounding the native Eskimo woman shows just how harsh and unyielding the environment can be. Imagine spending your days in an outdoor landscape where daily temperatures often do not reach 0 degrees. Ruggedness, fortitude and strength have to an essential part of your being.

On this 9 x 6 inch art card, artist Dorothy Francis depicts the Eskimo woman trying to warm up and nourish herself with a mug of broth/soup cooked over the fire. Ms. Francis has been painting indigenous Canadian people her entire life time in oil, acrylic and pastel media, focusing on the tasks the Inuit/Eskimo performs every day, and sensitively depicting how valuable a work centered and family oriented life is.

The note card does come with an envelope and is suitable for gift giving or as a marvelous print ready for framing. There is a biography of Dorothy Francis, and painted themes on the back of the card. Published during the 1970’s by Canadian Gallery Prints of British Columbia, the card has some browning associated with its forty year age, but otherwise it is in very fine vintage condition.  Dressed for the freezing weather in a hooded coat, boots and gloves, the lone fisherman is prepared to work for as long as it takes to spear enough fish for himself and family members. The portable bed roll on which he is sitting reminds the viewer just how much patience, fortitude, and of course skill is needed to succeed at this task.

Dorothy Francis has been painting the indigenous people of Canada over the span of her lifetime. She brings focus and sensitivity to lives grounded in the experience of everyday survival and family connections.

The 9 x 6 inch art/note card does come with an envelope for mailing, if so desired but is also suitable for framing. Published during the 1970’s by Canadian Gallery Prints of Vancouver, British Columbia, there is some discoloration appropriate for its age, but no other damage issues. On the backside, there is information about the artist and her life-long subjects as well as the publisher’s name.  With his Husky dog friend at his side, this young Eskimo boy uses his skills and back to basics fishing gear to bring home a large enough catch to feed his entire family. The marvelous 9 x 6 inch print/note card gives the viewer a sense of the patience needed and the work involved in ice fishing.

Dorothy Francis is an artist whose paintings of indigenous Canadian people are sensitive portraits depicting grace in activities of daily life. Surrounded by a harsh environment, the Inuit/Eskimo family’s fortune can rise or fall on how each member has mastered practical skills.

Published during the 1970’s by Canadian Gallery Prints of Vancouver, British Columbia, Ms. Francis’s portrait is signed by the artist and has a biography and description of the print on the backside. We do note some discoloration or browning associated with its forty year age, but it is in over-all very good vintage condition and frame ready if so desired.

Born in Saskatchewan, Dorothy Francis is recognized and appreciated for her paintings in oil, acrylic and pastels of indigenous Canadians, whether Indians or Inuits/Eskimo individuals. She portrays them in day to day situations, often surrounded by a harsh and rugged environment.

Published during the 1970’s time frame by Canadian Gallery Prints of Vancouver, British Columbia, this note card, envelope set can also work as a frame ready art print. On the backside, there is a biography of the artist, her work, and publishing information. We do note some browning/discoloration associated with age, but over-all, it is in fine vintage condition.  For railroad enthusiasts, here is an exciting estate sale find. Each wood and litho plaque is constructed from a single piece of hardwood, approximately 1/4 inch in thickness. Meticulously crafted, each plaque measures 6 inches across and is 6 inches to the top of the hanger.

The plaque with the V & T RR printed on the coal tender depicts the Queen of the Short Lines, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad which first rolled along tracks from the Comstock Lode in Nevada to Carson City, Nevada in 1870. The Nevada Commission for Reconstruction of the steepest, curviest railroad is set to re-open the V & T in 2012.

S.W. RR is printed on the coal tender featuring the passenger trains and stagecoach scene. The Southwest was a short line railroad that operated out of Arizona, New Mexico and Arizona, and associated with the copper mines found in Hurley, New Mexico.

The third plaque is not marked with the initials of a rail line, but has a locomotive with the #2 printed on it along with a horse and rancher/cowboy nearby. This could be the Southwest Railroad that runs from the Panhandle of Texas to northwestern Oklahoma and on this litho, seems to be in the process of loading livestock.

All three plaques are in very fine vintage condition without any dings or nicks to the wood and no damage issues to the litho prints. On the backside of each plaque is a paper label with the Belk Lindsey department store name, but no Universal Product Code or Bar Code which suggests that the manufacturing date would more likely be during the 50’s/60’s time frame.   Roseville Vase -Magnolia 1943. 4 different Lithograph Prints signed Harry Eliott. Lower right corner of these says Copyright Lieutard & Vallet Paris and opposite corner says printed in France. I assume these are copies and I do not know the age. Measure roughly 16 5/8 x 6 1/2". They are not framed. One has a small notch along the top edge and another has some slight tattering/tearing along it's bottom edge. Slight corner wear as well. Scenes depict Fox Hunting. Would look great individually framed or as a group in one's Home or Office. Buyer to pay shipping.

Very detailed painting on silk of an 1800's locomotive by unknown artist. It measures 11 3/4" x 11 1/4" and is mounted.   Artist Margie Morrow, after a summer rain shower framed bluebirds print, the print material looks like an oil painting, the matt is reverse painted glass, there is a small circle of paint loss at the very top next to the frame, condition is very good. Signed on bottom right. Thank you for looking!  Very dramatic and strikingly colorful is this set of 3 large framed prints. The 2 smaller prints measure 9 1/2 in. x 21 1/2 in. and the larger print measures 17 1/2 in. x 21 1/2 in. The prints show the native women dressed in bright, lavish costumes and adorned with bold jewelry. A few minor knicks in the wood frames which easily can be touched up with a bit of paint. They are unsigned and are on cardboard backers.
