What's New in the Collector's Showcase of Art?
The Most Recent Additions to This Category are First!
This is a wonderful Landscape of the Mendocino Headlands. It is done by Larry N. Eifert. Larry Eifert has been painting nature professionally for 40 years. No artist has more work in America's National Parks, refuges and preserves.

Eifert was brought up as a 'museum brat,' the result of both parents working for a large natural history museum. Art, nature and an enduring passion to both have always remained in the forefront of his focus. He hasn't wavered from this goal since he began to sell paintings in the 1960's.

This is a wonderful print of the Ocean Harbor. With all of it ships and sail boats, it has a wonderful city scape in the background. On the backside inside the frame is WC20. I do not know what that means. This seems to me to be a print.

This is a wonderful piece of chokin art. It has two ducks/geese fling over the fields. This is done in 24 kt gold.

On the back of the plate is:

Art Of Choken

The art of Chokin was indroduced in the 6th Century to decorate shrines & Tem pies and was used to decorate Samurai Armors, Swords, Helmets, etc... in the later years. This elegant Art of Chokin is created by using anchient techniques of etching copper plate and gilding gold and silver.

Enormous 33" x 39" what appears to be a watercolor painting. Paper looks like parchment but not sure. It is very stiff and cant be rolled, it has natural folds and creases on the surface when viewed up close. It also is somewhat translucent when held up to the light. Painting is signed Francesca in lower left corner. There is a very tiny ¼" tear on middle bottom edge as shown in picture. If you have any question please email me.

"Moulin Pink" signed Lil Halpin. 14" x 18" acrylic on canvas panel about 2002. Original sale price sticker on back $230.00 In Good Condition no chips, cracks, scratch, rips, ect. Have any question please email me.  This is a rare and unique antique Victorian religious hand-stitched needlepoint and petitpoint scene of the Child Jesus holding a baby lamb. This picture depicts the famous scene of 'The Good Shepard'. There are many interesting details including a fine depiction of Jesus with a halo above his head, his staff/cross, colorful stitching of his clothes and shoes, along with elaborate scenery including clouds, sky, water, greenery, and a palm tree. The scene has crosses stitched into the four corners and includes several border colors including white, 2 shades of peach, and a wide black border all framed in red. The needlepoint scene has been filled from behind like a pillow and then secured onto the purple cloth, all set within a fancy gold Victorian shadowbox frame. The needlepoint is in excellent original condition, except for some minimal thread loss in a couple places. (see photos) Below the needlepoint on the purple cloth there is a plaque mounted bearing the child’s name, "Harriet Charles Aged 13 1869". The inscription is quite fascinating in itself, as it appears to have been hammered with a series of dots. The gold finish on the decorative, wood and gesso frame appears to have been touched up long ago. For some unknown reason there are scratches on the plaque’s date. The velvet cloth has a very slight discoloration near the plaque. The frame retains the original wood backing and wire hanger. There is some minimal loss of the gesso around the edge of the frame. This is a rare and beautiful needlepoint done in the mid-Victorian times by a very talented 13 year old girl! Circa 1869.  This is a large, charming, and captivating antique Victorian "Home Sweet Home" punch paper motto. It has exquisite details throughout. Beginning with the lettering…The stitching is in beautiful vibrant shades of pinks and reds and the first letter of each word is outlined in a very shapely manner in a lovely and striking shade of green. The scene is fantastic with extremely elaborate stitching throughout. The home is large and has a wonderful deep red stitch framing it. The fancy Victorian gazebo in the foreground is so pretty and detailed. The tree on the right has a whimsical quality, as do all of the flowers throughout the sampler. The lawn area encompasses pleasing and interesting Victorian landscape. This punch paper is full of vibrant colors and retains the original decorative foil behind the punch paper, giving the piece a wonderful glisteny effect! The wood frame is original to the piece. It has a very decorative burl wood veneer that really highlights the punch paper within. The punch paper and frame are in excellent original condition. There is only one extremely, very small piece of unstitched punch paper that is missing in the right edge near the tree. This piece retains the original glass, wood backing, and wire hanger. It is evident that the person that made this wonderful antique punch paper motto was very skilled and took great pride in her work. It’s a real gem! Circa 1880’s.  Early English Print entitled A Tandem of the Past. Frame measures roughly 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches and the unmatted portion is about 18 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. Writing at the bottom says Published Nov. 10th 1810 by T. Clay No. 10 Budgate Hill London. Names in the lower corner include Lieu Downan delina and Jack Clark __? Nice colorful image of Horses and Rider. Overall very good condition with exception to a small white spot near the top as you can probably see in the photo. I'm guessing this Print is anywhere from the early to mid 1900's. A nice Print for one's Office or Den. Buyer to pay shipping & insurance.

Offered is an early colored Print emphasizing the sport of Fencing. It is believed to be French. The frame is about 23 1/2 x 19 inches and the actual size of the image shown (less matting) is about 15 1/4 x 10 inches. The bottom of the Print says (may have a few letters wrong--hard to make out clearly) Da desarmement apres' la parade au dehors de Armico Plate 40 Published According to Act of Parliament Feb.y 1763. Names at the bottom of each corner J. Gwyn Delin and Elliot Sculp__?. Some spottage to the Print but overall good/very good condition.  WONDERFUL SAWYER, FRAMED PRINT NAMED MELODY. IT IS A LOVELY SCENE WITH THE RIVER, WHITE BIRCH TREES, MOUNTAINS AND THE SKY WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE AT SUNSET WITH THE PINK HUES IN THE SKY AND REFLECTING IN THE WATER. Discover the romance of tramp art, folk art made made from discarded wooden cigar boxes, layer upon layer, one notch at a time, by untrained artists using simple tools and recycled materials. Tramp art crafters representing over 40 nationalities carved tramp art in America. It was also practiced throughout the world wherever cigars were smoked. These artists transformed the discarded boxes into pieces of utility and wonder. Never before has the subject been studied in such depth. Over 600 color photographs document 100s of items, ranging from picture frames and mirrors, to boxes, bureaus, and fantasy pieces. The designs and colors reflect a naive sensibility and aesthetic that is at once charming and beautiful. Here is a rich assemblage of the history of the art form and a thorough the study of the artists lives and work. Misguided romantic mythologies long associated with tramp art are dispelled to leave an accurate picture of these noble notchers. A foreword by award-winning author and art historian Barbara Goldsmith sets the stage, and the pages that follow both celebrate the art and deepen our understanding of its roots and practitioners. This book will be treasured by folk art lovers everywhere.

One of the most important books in the history of 19th century domestic design was Charles Eastlake's Hints on Household Taste. First published in 1868, it went through many editions and republications, and served as a basic source for philosophy of design for hundreds of architects, manufacturers, and decorators, as well as for perhaps hundreds of thousands of home owners. As the preeminent book which told its contemporaries what was proper, beautiful, and efficient, it had immeasurable influence on many areas of Victorian life. Eastlake was primarily interested in good design, particularly appropriateness and sanity in decoration, and a mutual respect between function and beauty. As a true Victorian, he did not disavow decoration for its own sake, although in many instances he approached a functionalism that we, today, consider very modern. It is one of the ironies of history that his work, in addition to "weeding out the overgrown Victorian parlor-garden," created the so-called "Eastlake style," which the author himself would probably have disavowed. Yet this double influence renders this work even more important to the modern reader. Eastlake's pleasantly written discussion covers almost all aspects of domestic living in mid-19th-century England, from the arrangement of a vestibule to utensils for the kitchen: rugs, carpet, floor coverings; tiles; wallpaper, hangings, stencilled decorations; furnishing of all sorts; arrangement of decorative objects; picture framing; design of tables, chairs, cupboards, beds, etc.; hardware; crockery, table service; color combinations; concordance of material and function, material and decoration; and a host of other topics. As a result it is invaluable to everyone concerned with restoration, period design, cultural history, or antique collecting.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Portrait Miniatures from the Merchistion Collection is the fifth in a series of titles which examines the portrait miniature. This collection, which has never been on public display, was assembled on the London art market during the 1970s and 1980s. Scottish miniaturists from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are particularly well represented with fine works by Scouler, Bogle, and Skirving and Sir William Charles Ross. Of outstanding interest is Nicholas Hilliards matching pair of tiny lockets of Queen Elizabeth and her admirer Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. Stephen Lloyds essay discusses the formation of the collection and the impact of the invention of photography on the art of miniature painting. It also explores the social history of the miniature. Twenty of the key works are illustrated in color, with extended captions, and a complete list of the collection is also included.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. A comprehensive explanation of Swiss wood carving, known as Black Forest, from 1820-1940 - Written by experts on the subject For many years "Black Forest"carvings were thought to have been produced in the Bavarian Black Forest, in Germany, but it has now been established beyond all doubt that they were the sole province of the Swiss. The wood carving industry of Switzerland originated in the picturesque town of Brienz. From humble beginnings as a cottage industry in the early 1800s it grew by the turn of the twentieth century to become the industrial driving force of a whole community. By 1910 there were some thirteen hundred carvers plying their trade in the locality of Brienz. The carving industry was driven by the tourist industry; Brienz, Luzern, Interlaken and other such picturesque resorts were in vogue with the wealthy Victorians. Bears were particularly popular, being the symbol for the city of Berne, but musical boxes, musical chalets, furniture large and small, all figured in Swiss carving. The variety was immense, ranging from the religious, faithful reproductions of Leonardo da Vincis Last Supper to the amusing and whimsical. Swiss "Black Forest"carvings were exhibited at the London Great Exhibition of 1851, Chicago 1893, Paris 1900 and at many of the other great international exhibitions of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Carved wooden bears, stags and other furniture and works of art from the Swiss "Black Forest"carvers stood alongside such great exhibitors of the time as Tiffany, Gall and Linke. Black Forest carvings were appreciated as truly great works of art at the time of their creation and indeed enjoyed royal patronage. Today there has been a tremendous revival in interest for them and the best pieces are highly sought after.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Considered to be one of Scotland's leading figurative painters, Moyna Flannigan is known for her wry and penetrating observations on society. This book accompanies an exhibition of new work 5o portrait miniatures that reflect the styles, manners and culture of contemporary life. In an illuminating essay Keith Hartley, chief curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, examines Flannigan's paintings and discusses the artistic and social influences on her work. In addition, a selection of these images are accompanied by fictional cameos from the award-winning Scottish writer Dilys Rose, which set up an imaginative dialogue with the miniatures.

This is a charming antique print. The adorable scene features a sweet young little girl scolding her ‘innocent looking’ dog for destroying her precious doll and tearing its arm off. The scene is charming and humorous. The scene appears to take place in an attic with a picturesque view of a lake and greenery outside the window. Also seen in the background of the room is an old lantern and spinning wheel. The dog is assuming an apologetic pose…very cute. The bottom left corner of the print has the publisher’s name, "Copyright R.C. Co., N.Y.". In bottom right corner of the print is the picture’s original item number, "2281". Come on by. We're dying to see you!

This is such a unique piece. I’ve never seen anything like it. This is a very inspirational antique wall hanging wood motto. It’s extra large in size. The words read, "Happy Souls Never Die". What a splendid saying! The entire piece is made of wood, framed by a molded edge. It is in excellent original condition and it retains the original finish. This wonderful wooden antique motto retains the original eye hooks for possible door display and old cord for wall display. This would certainly be a great focal point in any room. Circa 1920’s.

***I've included below A THOUGHT-PROVOKING COMMENT in regards to the motto, HAPPY SOULS NEVER DIE:

"In my own experience having many out of body experiences, I know that it is only the body that dies, but the soul never dies. It passes on to the next realm which is more suitable for us according to the karma which we have created for ourselves.

In reality (from my own experience) there is no such place as hell. The universe is divided into various planes of existence. Some place, we can find good souls inhabiting, some place there are bad souls… meaning souls which has not realized itself to be soul.

Believe it or not, we all have some kind of guardians guiding us. If we could only become aware, we can communicate with them and find out what really happens in the life hereafter. In fact the prime purpose of life is to realize our own immortality, that we do survive beyond this thing we know as death. In order to do that, we learn the science of leaving the body and prove to our self the existence of life after death and our own immortality.

All souls are beautiful. There is no doubts about this. The difference is some souls knows its own identity, some does not. We are all in the process of learning that we are soul. It takes many lifetimes to get to the understanding of the true nature of our "self" but we always have a choice in all these life we take, to learn about our self. It’s really about whether we want to learn or not.

Souls never dies. Souls only translates from one plane of existence into another. Life persist. Life continues. Life really never end. What ends is only a transformation of something into another. When we see something transformed, the old thing disappear and something new appear." So be happy knowing that when a loved one dies, they never really died. They're just choosing to take the next step in their own spiritual growth.

God Bless!

Before the advent of laser, some printing techniques were able to give prints a sense of depth and motion. Along with the changing reflective light, the lithograph took on a new perspective. This Indian Maiden II print, marked Artaco, 1976, has several different looks depending on the lighting or how the print is positioned.

Gold and silver foil with a few highlighted splashes of color give this Indian maiden a unique appearance. Total print size is 8 1/4 inches x 10 1/4 inches and the black acrylic frame with the narrow gold band complements the Indian print. We do note that there is creasing of the foil to the left of the maiden’s head, but over-all, the print is in fine shape.  Two framed pictures. One is magnolia and dogwood. The other is a bouquet of various flower. The wooden frames are cream colored with a blue stripe. They measure 6 ¾ x 8 ¾. The lithos are in very good condition. The frames may need a little touch up paint. They are marked at the bottom Copyright D.A.C., N.Y. Litho in U.S.A. The Magnolia print has an artists signature that looks like e. Senton.

This is a set of 2 Jasperware style silhouettes each in a black lacquer frame with maroon velvet background. They each measure 4 ¾ x 5 ¼. Jasperware cameo is 2 ½ diameter. Frames have some wear but could be touched up with paint.

Created for the American Greetings Company, this folk art delight features Ms. Graf’s unique early Americana designs, and border treatment.

Done on a beige background, the wood print has a central oval depicting figures in 1920’s/1930’s style clothing playing croquet on the font lawn. Muted pastel colors of green, burgundy, and blue, along with her trademark border treatment, add charm to this print. The wood block is polychromed and has a high-gloss surface. Print is in fine vintage condition, with some slight wear to the backside bottom.

Christine Graf’s large-sized prints command hundreds of dollars. She was the artist chosen by President and Mrs. Reagan to recreate on canvas the White House, Easter Egg Event, which now hangs in the Reagan library. The wood block print has the artist’s signature beneath the lawn scene, and a gold American Greetings Signature Collection label. There is a brass hanger at the top, as well as a saw-tooth hanger on the back.  Beautiful Victorian Lady with Large Hat with Feathers Holding a Mask, from my collection of images.
