Neat original book illustration from 1885 edition of Picturesque Tours in America, the Junior United Tourist Club, edited by the Rev. Edward T. Bromfield, published by R. Worthington, NY. The date does not appear on-page but was present on the book's title page from which this came and we guarantee the age and what this is. The book was not in good shape so the good pages/book prints were removed and are being sold individually. Please see our other listings for the other pages available.

Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "Springville Canon" which we believe is also referred to as Springville Canyon. The canyon is located in the Wahsatch Mountain range in Utah (the opposite side book page spells this mountain range "Wahsatch" although today it is referred to as "Wasatch Mountains"). This is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a view of majestic peaked mountains and the canyon between them. We have provided two images of the book page picture. Please note that the page is not "brown" as it seems to appear in the close-up picture. Sometimes to get the close-up details to be better visible we had to turn off the camera light (as it created too many white "hot spots" on the page in close-up mode). This permitted seeing close-up details but makes the overall page look falsely brown due to insufficient lighting.

Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is very minor page wear as expected, with an onpage small brown spot in the bottom right margin area, but nothing to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book.

Relative to shipping, please note: While this is a book page/print, this item CAN NOT be shipped via U.S.P.S. Media Mail per the post office. Please do not select this shipping option because we will have to contact you and change the shipping to something else, increasing your postage cost. The cheapest option for shipping this within the U.S. is via U.S.P.S. First Class mail. Also, if you are interested in more than one of these book page prints, please contact us before placing the order. The shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you).  Neat original book illustration from 1885 edition of Picturesque Tours in America, the Junior United Tourist Club, edited by the Rev. Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "Moore's Lake, Utah" which we believe is also referred to as Moores Lake (without the apostrophe). The lake is located at the head of the Bear River among the Uintah Mountains in UT (also referred to as the Uinta Mountains). This is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a lovely lake nestled among mountains. We have provided two images of the book page picture. Please note that the page is not "brown" as it seems to appear in the close-up picture. Sometimes to get the close-up details to be better visible we had to turn off the camera light (as it created too many white "hot spots" on the page in close-up mode). Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is very minor page wear as expected, with an onpage line wrinkle in the bottom left margin area, but nothing to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book.

Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "Colpurn's Butte". From some research, this location was also referred to as Colburn's Butte, although today it is apparently called Tucupit Point. It is located in Kannarro Canyon or the Kolob Canyon section of Zion National Park. This is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a majestic rock formation with surrounding countryside and a rider on a horse in the lower left foreground. We have provided two images of the book page picture. Please note that the page is not "brown" as it seems to appear in the close-up picture. Sometimes to get the close-up details to be better visible we had to turn off the camera light (as it created too many white "hot spots" on the page in close-up mode). The book page provides no mention of the artist who did this picture. However, from our research, the image shown is strikingly similar to most of an engraving/wood engraving done in the late 1800's by Thomas Moran. To us, it looks like the book used/copied most of Moran's engraving, but we don't know that for certain.

Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is very minor page wear as expected, with a triangular chip on the lower left in the margin area, and some wrinkling with a line in the bottom margin area, but nothing to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book.

Measures about 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "Pinnacles of the Pallisades". The book print spells "Pallisades" with 2 "Ls" rather than the more normally used today "Palisades" with 1 L. While the Palisades stretch from New Jersey into New York, we believe this view is from the New York portion based on the book copy on the backside page (interestingly, the book copy refers to the Palisades using the one "L" spelling rather than that used under the picture). This is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing some of the majestic rocks of the Palisades in New York, with an accompanying view of the Hudson River with many boats sailing on the waterway. We have provided two images of the book page picture. Please note that the page is not "brown" as it seems to appear in the close-up picture. Sometimes to get the close-up details to be better visible we had to turn off the camera light (as it created too many white "hot spots" on the page in close-up mode). Measures about 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "Preston Ponds". From the book copy on the reverse side and a bit of research, this is a view of the lake, Preston Ponds, in the Adirondack Mountains of upper New York state. This is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a peaceful mountain view with a lake and some boating activity on the lake. We have provided two images of the book page picture. Please note that the page is not "brown" as it seems to appear in the close-up picture. Measures about 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "Negro Head, Newport". This is apparently a rock structure named for it's presumably face-like feature, on the island of Aquidneck which is part of Newport, Rhode Island. Aquidneck is the largest island in Narragansett Bay. This is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a neat ocean view, with turbulent waters near the rock formation and other nearby rocks, with a man standing on what might be a shipwrecked boat in the lower left foreground. We have provided two images of the book page picture. Please note that the page is not "brown" as it seems to appear in the close-up picture. Sometimes to get the close-up details to be better visible we had to turn off the camera light (as it created too many white "hot spots" on the page in close-up mode). Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side and a separate, smaller picture on that side. The main picture here is labelled at the bottom, "View on the Missisquoi River, Vermont". It is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a lovely flowing river view full of boulders in the water, surrounded by mountains covered with trees, with a rustic wood building in the background and two men fishing in the foreground. The smaller image with book copy on the reverse side shows a pretty mountain and valley scene which is labelled underneath, "Mount Mansfield, Mass." (MA, Massachusetts). We have provided 3 images showing both page sides.

Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is very minor page wear, with spotting and/or some on-page creasing, but nothing unexpected or to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book. As printed, on the large river image side, the black ink seems to be slightly darker near the top of the image, seeming to form 5 darker horizontal lines across the sky area of the image. These are not folds/creases nor dirt/wear, and the picture itself is made with many thin wavy horizontal lines in the background area. But something in the printing of this page applied darker ink seeming to suggest these more noticeable horizontal lines on the image at the top. This is not objectionable, but you should know it is there.

Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side and a separate, smaller picture on that side. The main picture here is labelled at the bottom, "The Giantess Geyser", which, from the book copy on the other side of the page, is one of the geysers in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming (WY). It is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a giant geyser errupting with two smaller geysers shooting into the air also nearby, while small drawings of people and a horse run away from the geysers (presumably scared by the force of the shooting water). The smaller image with book copy on the reverse side shows another geyser shooting water in a tree and mountain landscape, this labelled under the picture to be "Grotto Geyser". The book copy refers to other geysers in the park, including mentioning Grand Geyser, Castle Geyser, Turban Geyser and Old Faithful Geyser, but these are not picutred here. We have provided 3 images showing both page sides.

Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is very minor page wear and spotting and some on-page creasing, but nothing unexpected or to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book. As printed, on the large geyser image, the black ink seems to be slightly darker in two places, seeming to form a darker horizontal line across the Giantess Geyser image. This is not a fold/crease nor dirt/wear, and the picture itself is made with many thin horizontal lines in the background area. But something in the printing of this page applied darker ink seeming to suggest these two more noticeable horizontal lines on the image. This is not objectionable, but you should know it is there. These lines seem to correspond with the ends of the picture on the reverse side, which may be the cause of the darkening.

Lithograph print measuring 12-1/4 inches wide by 9-1/4 inches high. VERY SUITABLE FOR FRAMING.

Beautiful VIBRANT COLORING. NEAR-EXCELLENT CONDITION. Only flaw runs along the very, very bottom edge, a very faint outline of an old water stain. Can trim away approx. 1/4 inch, or matte around, since you have lots of bordering surrounding the artwork image.

Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side and a separate, smaller picture of another locale. The main picture here is labelled at the bottom, "Talulowehack Canon, Sierras", which we believe is a location in the state of Nevada, although we don't know that for certain. It is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a lovely mountain & valley scene with tall trees in the foreground and a male deer or stag standing in front of a fallen tree looking towards the canon (we know this is a male from the large, multi-point antlers). We have provided an image of the main book page picture, as best we could show it. The smaller image with book copy on the reverse side shows railroad tracks within a wooden structure and is labelled, "Snow-shed, Central Pacific Railroad".

Edward T. Bromfield, published by R. Worthington, NY. The date does not appear on-page but was present on the book's title page from which this came and we guarantee the age and what this is. Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side. The picture is labelled at the bottom, "A White Mountain Glen". We believe this to be referring to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a very pretty, serene scene of a brook flowing through rocks into a larger stream or river. We have provided an image of the book page picture, as best we could show it.

Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is perhaps very minor page wear as expected, with two of the corners worn/clipped/torn at the points, but nothing to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book.

Measures about 7 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches. This page has two separate pictures, one on each side. One is labelled at the bottom to be of "New York Harbor", showing many boats on water with buildings in the far distance behind them. Some seem to be clipper ships with multiple sails, others are of other types of ships, with several small rowboats in the foreground carrying people, as if the rowboats are ferrying people from the larger ships to the shore, or vice versa. On the other side of the page is a "View of Elevated Railroad" with horse drawn carriages passing under the elevated railroad tracks. Both pictures are black and white line drawings (not photographs, no color on page). On the harbor view, the name, "A. Sargent" appears/is printed on the lower right, with what looks to be "T. A. Weber" on the lower left. On the railroad view, "RR CO" appears on the lower right on the picture, with perhaps another letter in front of this but we can't make that out for sure. We have provided an image of each book page side, as best we could show them.

Here is a bit about the artist I found on the internet:

Carl C. "Spike" Knuth Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Spike’s interest in the outdoors began at age seven with birds and fishing on southeastern Wisconsin’s Okauchee Lake. From ages 8-13, He spent many summer vacations—any opportunities—honing his fishing and nature study skills. He traveled the lake by rowboat, covering many miles and spending many hours. His interests expanded when he moved with his parents and brother to Fond du Lac, in east central Wisconsin. Here he spent countless hours around big Lake Winnebago, in nearby Supple and Eldorado marshes, the world famous Horicon Marsh, Lake Butte des Mortes and more marshes and lakes in the area. During this same time period, he expressed an interest in and love of wildlife and the outdoors while developing his talent in art. He began studying plants and flowers so that when he illustrated wildlife in his paintings the vegetation depicted would be genuine. Spike’s artwork and illustrations, writings and photography have appeared in numerous magazines, particularly Virginia Wildlife. He has created more than 70 covers for a variety of magazines He worked at Mercury Outboards for 13 years, starting as a hand trucker, moving to production control then to commercial artist. He worked as a news photographer and artist for the Fond du Lac Reporter for 4-1/2 years. In 1968-69 he hosted a live half-hour television program on KFIZ-TV, a sibling operation to the newspaper in Fond du Lac. Spike said his childhood dream and desire to be an outdoor writer and wildlife illustrator full time came to fruition in February, 1974, when he began working for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He hosted and produced more than 300-television programs from 1975 to 1986 for the Department, including a two-minute radio program on WRVA, Richmond for seven years. Spike has two duck stamps to his credit, the 1978 Indiana Waterfowl Stamp and the 1992 and 1999 Virginia Waterfowl Stamps. He wrote a monthly page in Virginia Wildlife (Naturally Wild) magazine as well as illustrated the Wild in the Woods pages. His artwork of northern yellowthroats was among 50 paintings displayed at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Bird Art Show in Wausau, Wisconsin, in 1979, a piece that made a world tour to fine arts academies in Edinburgh, Scotland; London, England and Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In fact, the painting was used on the cover of Edinburgh Today magazine. Spike has been donating artwork to Ducks Unlimited since 1967 beginning with the D.U. Chapter in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and has donated about 500 original pieces of art to Ducks Unlimited’s auctions since then. His association with Chesapeake Style magazine began in the spring of 2000, when an article about him appeared in conjunction with the Rappahannock River Wildlife Art Festival for which he was named Artist of the Year. Since then he writes and illustrates Spike's Wildlife Almanac column every month. Spike said, "I write and illustrate wildlife because wildlife fascinates me and I feel the urge to say to people, ‘Look at this, isn’t this amazing?' I just want to share my fascination and interest in the outdoors with readers, and tell them about what I saw and learned. If it wasn't for wildlife, I probably wouldn't paint or write!" The frame makes it a bit larger. The frame is not anything special. It does have a few nicks but not anything noticeable. However I would recommend only having the print mailed to you thus saving on shipping. This way you can reframed into a something nicer.  Brandi Fairbanks, Women/ Heart Print, signed. Brandi Fairbanks is an artist from Bellingham Washington. Her art is frequently turns up at art shows and street fairs.
