Energetic & colorful abstract done by the father of Cuban Modernism, Domingo Ravenet.

Of all of the Cuban artists to come from the turn of the century, Domingo Ravenet has been called the voice of the Cuban Avant-Guard. A masterful artist, Ravenet dabbled in everything from writing to teaching, and was also a curator. However, it is his artwork that still remains and proves him as the true Renaissance man. Among many other things, Ravenet has also been called a pioneer in modern frescoes and mural art among Cuban artists.

Ravenet was born in Valencia, Spain, but grew up in Havana. Among his many talents, Ravenet was a painter, sculptor, illustrator and a muralist. Schooled at the San Alejandro Academy, Ravenet graduated Cum Laude. From that point on, Ravenet dedicated his life to becoming a teacher and promoter of the arts.

This painting was a gift to a neighbor in the 1960's, acquired from that neighbors nephew.

Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, in 1927, Joaquin Crespo Manzano studied at the School of Arts and Crafts P. del Rio, where he also taught painting and printmaking for 38 years. He was also deputy director of the Academia de San Alejandro for 2 years, and has won several awards in Cuba and Leizing, including first prize for figurative works at the 1959 Cuban National Drawing Salon. His work is in private collections in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Chile, Mexico, and Europe. He currently lives in Florida, where he remains active as a painter.

In this series of etchings, Manzano addresses the impact of the 1973 Chilean coup d'état.
