"Hummingbird and Fuchsia", large oban tata-e (19¾" x 11¾"); published in 1971. Titled LL and pencil-signed LR. Condition: very good; very slightly toned; full margins (top & left with deckle edges); a few wrinkles in top margin; unmounted.  Note: other woodblocks by T. Yoshida are available; please inquire.  "Kanjincho"; from the series "Kabuki juhachi ban (Eighteen Kabuki)"; oban tate-e (14" x 9½").  Signed "Tadamasa" in Japanese with red "Tadamasa" seal; published in 1952 by Shokokusha and printed by Shinmi Saburo (light light gray seals in LL margin). Condition: very good; very slightly toned in visible area due to previous framing; lower robe with white mica; no folds or tears; very good color; full margins with top deckle edge.  "Farm Family"; from the series "Occupations of Showa Japan in Pictures"; oban yoko-e (11¼" x 16").  Signed "Sanzo" in Japanese with "Sanzo" seal; published mid-1950s by Kyoto Hanga-in (red Kyoto Hanga-in & Shinagawa seals in lower right margin). Condition: fair to good; moderate toning, especially in upper & right margins; full margins. Note: other woodblocks by Sanzo are available; please inquire.  "Chushojima area in Kyoto".  Framed and matted; oban tate-e (visible area 15½" x 10¼").  Signed "Nisaburo" in Japanese and "Nis" with publisher's seal (Uchida).  Condition of print: Excellent; lower corners of the frame slightly damaged; print not examined out of frame.

Condition: excellent; no apparent blemishes; not examined out of frame.  "Moon over Kyoto Temple"; oban tata-e (15½" x 10¾").  Signed "Koyo" in Japanese with unidentified (top) and Shinagawa (bottom) seals below signature; published ca. 1950s by Kyoto Hanga-in (red Kyoto Hanga-in & Shinagawa seals in lower left margin). Condition: excellent; full margins with deckle edges top & left; tipped to presentation folio.  "Hana ayame (Iris Flowers)"; oban tata-e (15½" x 10½").  Titled with "Koto" seal and "Uchida han" (publisher) seal. Condition: excellent; background with wood grain (mokume"); full margins with deckle edges top, left, and bottom; "UCHIDA" watermark in lower margin near kento notch; taped to double mat (21¼" x 15½" outer dimensions) across the top and at bottom corners. Note: other woodblocks by Kotozuka are available; please inquire.  "Kingfisher and irises"; oban tata-e (14¼" x 9½"). Signed "Shoson" in Japanese; originally published by Watanabe in 1927 and reissued just prior to Koson's death in 1945 (Watanabe 6-mm seal LL). Condition: very good: two small pinholes in left margin; two small tape residues and typed label verso; deckle edges top and most of left margins.

Signed and sealed LR:  "Kasamatsu" in Japanese; annotated in left margin with original publication date (1932); published by Shozaburo Watanabe (6-mm seal LL corner) ca. 1950 in limited edition of 200.  Condition: very good; very slight toning; two pinholes in left margin; deckle edges, top and left.  "Mt. Fuji from Midzukubo"; oban yoko-e (10¼" x 15¼").  Ca. early 1940s.  Condition: Good to very good: slight toning throughout; no folds, tears, etc.; intact margins (top and right with deckle edge).  Theater scene from the series "One Hundred Kabuki Roles by Onoe Baiko", oban tate-e (13½" x 9"). Signed "Toyohara Kunichika hitsu" in Japanese with "Toshidama" seal and dated "Meiji 26" (1893); published by Fukuda Kamajiro. Condition: very good; brown spot in right margin and very faint brown spot on elbow; very light metallic transfer stain next to the head; margins intact; mica residue in green background; excellent color; "gauffage" (embossing) of background design in UL panel; very fine carving of hair. Condition: good; slight toning throughout, but especially in right margin; full borders; kimonos embellished with metallic silver.  "Wrens (Misosazai) and twinberries"; oban tata-e (12½" x 8¾").  Print No. 12 from a set of four albums published in 1892 by Niishimura Sozaemon (exactly the same vintage and printing as the kanji-numbered version, this edition using roman numbers being intended for export). Condition: very good; very slight toning throughout; margins, but with "binding holes" trimmed from right margin (preserved as part of an album) and left margin slightly trimmed; still attached by one corner to a presentation folio.  Note: other woodblocks by Keinin are available; please inquire.  "Harbor Bridge" (16" x 18").  Signed and dated ("1957") LR.  "Black and White" (12½" x 20"). Condition: excellent; full borders with deckle edges left and top.  "Pagoda of Ninnaji Temple in Kyoto"; oban tata-e (14½" x 9½"). Signed "Asada" in Japanese with Uchida (publisher) seal underneath; "UCHIDA" watermark in lower margin near the kento notch. Ca. 1930s.  Condition: good to excellent; very slight toning in visible area; some tape residue verso; full margins; deckle edges top, left, and bottom.  "Onoe Kikugoro"; oban tata-e (14" x 9¼"). Signed "Ichikawa Chikashige hitsu" with Toshidama seal; published by Fukuda Kamajiro, ca. 1870s/early 1880s.  Condition: very good; very slight toning throughout; full borders.  Chikashige was a pupil of Toyohara Kunichika whose dramatic style he emulated.  This print, depicting the actor Onoe Kikugoro, is a good example of the last phase of the Ukiyoe school, noteworthy in the highly stylized treatment of the subject.  "Keio no koro" (The Keio Period) from the series "Jidai kagami" (Mirror of the Ages); oban tata-e (13¾" x 9¼").  Signed "Chikanobu" with seal reading "Yoshu"; published by Matsuki Heikichi in 1897; in folio.  Condition: very good;  very slight toning throughout.

"Lapwings (Tageri) and lilies" from "Bairei Hyakucho Gafu" (Bairei's Album of 100 Birds); oban tata-e (13½" x 8¾").  "Bairei" seal UL; published by Okura Magohei in 1891.  Condition: very good; very slight toning throughout; full borders with binding holes in left margin.  Bairei was a pupil in Kyoto of the Maruyama-Shijo painter Raisho; then, at 27, of the Shijo-school artist Bunin.  The Shijo school, also called Maruyama school, was a Japanese school of naturalistic painting that was founded in the late 18th century by Maruyama Masataka and was revived for woodblock prints during the Meiji by Bairei.  Barei's "Album of 100 Birds" was published by Okura Magohei in three volumes in 1891, 1892, and 1896, respectively.  Plate #28 from "Hisago-gundan Gojuyo-jo" (Fifty-four battle scenes shortly before Edo era); oban tata-e (14" x 9 5/8".  Signed "Yoshitsuya"; published ca. 1864.   Condition: very good to excellent: minimal margins (as printed); colors are still very fresh and bright; no holes, tears, or foxing.  Mother and child; oban tata-e (14" x 9¾").  Signed "Yoshikazu"; published ca. 1850s by Kagaya Kichibei (Kichiemon).   Condition: fair; toned throughout; several small holes across top and large hole near signature (shown); left & right borders trimmed; slight wrinkling thoughout.  Actor print. Framed and matted; oban tate-e (14" x 9¾"). Signed "Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga" with "kiri" seal.  Double censor period (1847-1852). Condition: good to very good; somewhat faded color; not examined out of frame.

Meal scene from Genji monogatari (The Tale of Genji), Chapter 36 Kashiwagi); oban tate-e (14½" x 10"). Signed "Kunisada ga" with aratame (approved) seal, date seal (mi 10 [10/1857]), and publisher's seal (Tsuta-ya Kichizo).  Condition: good to very good; somewhat  faded color; small piece missing from upper right corner - not into print. Note the Genji-mon (Genji crest) for the 36th chapter (Kashiwagi) of the Tale of Genji in upper left red clam shell cartouche as well as domestic items including hibachi, candle lamps, bonsai tree, etc. Kunisada II was a pupil of Kunisada. At first he signed his prints Baido Kunimasa III or Kunimasa; in 1846 he married his master's daughter, taking the names Kunisada II, Kochoro, and Ichijusai; from about 1870, after Kunisada's death, he used the name Toyokuni III (actually, IV).  "Iga province: Ueno" from the series "Rokujuyoshu meisho zue" (Famous places of the sixty-odd provinces), oban  tata-e (13½" x 9"). Signed "Hiroshige hitsu", dated "Ushi 7" (1853), and published by Koshimuraya Heisuke.  Condition: good; all but top margin  trimmed to ca. ¼" of image; slight toning throughout; small tape residue in  upper corners verso; no wrinkles, tears or folds; pronounced bleedthrough verso. Guaranteed original strike.
