First published in 1792 and continuing to the present, The Farmer’s Almanac has been a constant in millions of American homes. Prized for its accurate weather and agricultural forecasts, the Farmer’s Almanac had already existed for over 165 years when this sampler book was first printed in 1957.

Over its 302 pages, the reader can decide whether the earlier citizens of our country may have touched upon a way of living and philosophy that works well for the 21st century. For example, Parents, when you buy suitable books for your children you keep them from what is low, ignorant, foolish, expensive or vicious (1812) and from 1940: A recession is a period in which you tighten your belt. A depression is a time in which you have no belt to tighten. When you have no pants to hold up, it’s a panic.

Although the book has browning of its pages and some age spotting noted on page edges, over-all it is in very good vintage condition with a sturdy spine, no tears or handwriting on its pages.

Written by noted children’s author Enid LaMonte Meadowcroft, it is part of the Signature Series of books which showcase famous men and women in historical context with human story structures.

Crazy Horse, a Sioux Indian Chief, wanted only for his people to be secure and to live in peace with the newly arrived white men. He had no interest in a long-range war or fighting on-going battles. Attacks on nearby tribes such as the Cheyennes by the white man’s military, meant that Crazy Horse and his warriors had to act to protect their tribal friends.

The young reader has the opportunity to understand that the Indians who lived in America long before the European settlers made their home here, were a proud and self-sufficient people. The focus is on their story, without putting a bad guys label on native Americans. For its nearly 60 years of age, the book is in marvelous condition, with only age related browning to its pages and minor wear to the cover.
