Radio had previously been used for military, weather, ships at sea and by a handful of radio amateurs, but that changed after radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh began regular broadcasts with coverage of the Harding-Cox presidential election returns on November 2, 1920. A new era of radio as a means of informing and entertaining the general public had begun. Radio stations sprung up accross America almost overnight, and dozens of new radio manufacturers appeared with hopes of cashing in on the new trend. Others tried to profit from the radio boom by selling parts and supplies for radios, particularly vacuum tubes. Radio Tubes and Boxes of the 1920's captures the excitement and intrigue of that first decade of home radio, through a pictorial presentation of the radio tubes of the era. With over 400 color photos and illustrations of early tubes, it shows the colorful packaging and sometimes unusual construction features employed by tube makers to market their products to the public. Collectors and historians alike will appreciate this entertaining way of revisiting the early days of the electronics industry in the United States. Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Thanksgiving candy containers are heavily represented in this reference. Planes, trains and automobiles certainly predominate in volume and variety, as do military subjects and guns. And the telephone! This volume comprises all the cemetery records originally published in the fifteen volumes of The "Old Northwest" Genealogical Quarterly between 1898 and 1912. It consists principally of tombstone inscriptions from cemeteries in the following counties in northeastern and central Ohio: Athens, Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin (including the city of Columbus), Geauga, Guernsey, Jackson, Knox, Licking, Lorain, Madison, Pickaway, Portage, Ross, Trumbull, and Vinton. Researchers will find the data in Ohio Cemetery Records to be especially rich in genealogical value since many of the recorded inscriptions identify not only the age and date of death of the deceased, but also the names of parents, spouse, or children. For the benefit of the researcher a full-name index to the nearly 20,000 persons identified in the records has been specially prepared for this publication.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore Notes: Beginning with the early settlements, churches, colonial wars, and the Revolution, this reference covers the Pennsylvania migration to Maryland and identifies many of the early Pennsylvania-German settlers. Publishers Description: Based on findings in the Archives of Maryland, the Maryland Gazette, and other sources, Mr. Nead assembled this celebrated exposition of the Pennsylvania-Germans in Maryland. Taking the early settlements, churches, colonial wars, and the Revolution as points of departure, he quotes chapter and verse on the origins of the Pennsylvania migration to Maryland, identifies many of the early Pennsylvania-German settlers, and settles the question of the settlers' cultural and political influence in the state. The migration of the Pennsylvania-Germans into Maryland began in the mid-18th century, and this basic work deals with their settlements, activities, and contributions to the growth of the state. There was apparently no marked movement of Germans into Maryland until the 1740s, when Joseph Hite moved from Pennsylvania with a colony of approximately sixteen families. Shortly thereafter the first permanent Pennsylvania-German settlement in Maryland was established at the village of Monocacy in Frederick County, and the first church was erected. Lists of early members and baptisms are presented in this survey. The Pennsylvania-Germans, including a sizable colony of Moravians, soon dominated events in Western Maryland and began distinguishing themselves in virtually every aspect of colonial life. Their achievements are legion. At intervals throughout the text, thousands of these early settlers are named from church rosters and lists of redemptioners, militiamen in the French and Indian War, members of the Committees of Observation, and soldiers of the Frederick County Flying Camp and the German Regiment. This book will prove indispensable to genealogists interested in Pennsylvania-German origins.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Kings County, New York, is today essentially co-extensive with the borough of Brooklyn, the county seat for Kings. This Register of the Early Settlers of King's County is the standard work on the subject, and it is literally crammed with genealogies of the 17th-century pioneers of the county, most of whom were of Dutch, or, to a lesser extent, British, origin. The name index at the back of the volume makes it easy to find any of the 7,500 settlers referred to in the family histories.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This is an exhaustive study of the county from its infancy to the middle of the 19th century, with chapters on the early settlements and towns, churches, schools, businesses and industries, and sketches of the county's participation in the Indian Wars, the Revolutionary War, and the War of 1812. People who played a role in the development of the county are the mainstays of this book. Genealogists will be delighted with the coverage given to Augustine Herman of Bohemia Manor and will also welcome the sketches of such early families as: Alexander, Carroll, Van Bibber, Leslie, Hall, Churchman, Evans, Mitchell, Mauldin, Gilpin, Rudulph, Rumsey, Hyland, Defoe, Ramsay, and Hartshorne. In addition, this edition contains a new name index compiled by the Genealogical Society of Cecil County.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collector Bookstore Notes: This guide covers the topic of early wooden ballot boxes - those that used marbles, especially black and white ones for voting. The term "black balling" arises from this early method whereby members could cast a negative vote in secret. Publishers Description: What is a Marble Ballot Box? Simply described, marble ballot boxes are boxes or similar containers with marbles, usually two colors, white and black, used to determine the outcome of simple votes. The materials the box and marbles are made of vary. Wood is the most common material for building the box, with some examples made from tin or ceramic or pottery. The materials used to make the marbles have evolved over time to match the techniques and materials used to make common marbles at the times the ballot boxes were being used. Marbles were originally made from stone or clay. As porcelain or china marbles became available, these marbles were also used in ballot boxes. As the manufacturing of glass marbles took over the marble business, then glass marbles were used with ballot boxes. Examples of ballot box marbles can also be found made from wood, rubber, and plastic. More about the marbles used as ballots will be discussed in this book.  Written in 1982, by Norma Rehl, Nordic Book publishers. This paperback is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" - 91 pages. Some color photos, many black and white photos. The book is basically organized by items, such as dinnerware, birds, Kiddie sets, etc. Also includes Della-Ware, Black Gold Giftware, Stoby mugs, cariacature mugs, and more. In very good condition.
