Created by the noted Josef Kuba Porcelain/Porzellan Manufactory in Wiesau, Bavaria, this child’s plate and cup were made during the early 1950’s to 1970 time frame. The green JKW trademark and Exclusively for Hummelwerk is stamped on the backside of the 7 3/4 inch plate and 3 1/4 inch high child’s cup.

The decoration features a trio of clown or jester illustrations. The multicolor scenes include the clown fishing, and pulling up a boot as fish swim by, picking fruit for his basket with butterflies hovering, and soaring high on his swing holding onto balloons.

Both the plate and cup are without cracks, chips, or nicks and are in very fine vintage condition. The one note we make is that the cup has what appears to be a slight green color that strayed from the boat or fish decoration and is under the glaze near the rim base. This is one lovely and whimsical child’s set which would also be charming on display, and we are including a clear acrylic plate stand with your purchase.   Set of 5,6 1/4", under sides browned  Johnson Brothers, England, 6 1/4", tiny oyster under one,  Johnson Brothers, England, 12", very good.

The first photo shows only one of the 12 different Royal Albert, made in England, Bone China, Flowers of the Month cups and saucers, a set/series said to be in the 1940's style. These are labeled under the base: hand-painted. The first photo shows no. 12, Holly, December's duo. I have room for only 8 photos, so only Holly is shown as an example of detail and quality. I can email photos of others if wanted.

The 2nd photo, a borrowed photo, shows the complete set of 12 raised-base cups and saucers each with a different flower for each month. One cup burst spontaneously, the no. 5, Hawthorn. This can occur in very fine china, and these are very fine bone china. I bought a replacement several years ago, and I believe that it is a later style, since there is just the slightest bit of difference in the gold trim on the handle. The cup which I am holding in my hand is the later Hawthorn.

All cups except 2 are immaculate, the exception being no.1 Snowdrops which had a small nick in the rim, and no. 10 Cosmos which has 2 small nicks in the rim. These were never used, and only displayed. I have put them back in the original box, but could not manage to do it quite the same way as they were shipped.

The complete set of 12 was bought on 5th Ave. in New York City, and my mom proudly displayed it for at least 30 or more years.

Looking at that first photo of the Holly set, one can imagine how beautiful these cups and saucers are. The example photo of the base gives all pertinent information under glaze, including numbers, months, and identifies each flower. The replaced Hawthorn cup photo shows only the slight difference, 2 small squiggles of extra gold on the curves near the top of the handle. You really have to compare in order to see the difference.

The last 3 photos are of the cups as they sat, more or less, on the cupboard: 1st photo has No. 7 Water Lily, No. 4 Daisy, and No. 8 Poppy on the top row, with No. 10, Cosmos, and No. 5 Hawthorn on the lower row.

The 2nd photo has No. 2 Violets, No. 9 Morning Glory, No. 11 Chrysanthemum on the top row, with No. 6 Dog Rose and No. 12 Holly on the bottom row.

The third photo shows a repeat of Chrysanthemum (I moved them around a bit for photos), No. 3 Daffodils, and No. 1 Snowdrop.

They are all being stored in the original box, where the weight is over 8 lbs. I would have to repack the box within another box with padding for safety.

Buyer to pay for shipping by USPS Priority, with free Delivery Confirmation, 10 lbs. from 06068. #564

PS: I just found the original stringed tags for each cup!  An obling covered porcelain butterdish that holds a quarter lb. stick of butter. Measures 8.25 in. long, 4 in. wide and 3 in. tall. Handpainted with a pink floral motif and decorated with gold. Signed Lavelle Magnus on the bottom. No damage.  Johnson Brothers, England, cups have flower inside, 2 5/8" tall, some crazing, saucers 5 1/2" diam.  This Peony floral cup and saucer was made by Thomas C. Wild (& Sons Ltd), and is marked: Royal Albert / Bone China / England / Flower Of The Month Series / Poppy / 1970 Royal Albert LTD.

Royal Albert was the trading name of the firm founded by Thomas Clark Wild, founded about 1894 and manufactured in T.C. Wild & Sons Limited, Crown China Works, High Street, (later St Marys Works) Longton, Staffordshire, England.

Pieces marked Royal Albert Crown China were manufactured from 1905 until about 1935. The crown logo has changed in style along with the printed mark but is still part of the stamp today.

The firm has always been known for its fine quality bone china.

The large red and pink peony with blue forget-me-nots against the white china background are so delicately done. With the month August on the inside of the cup along with the flowers and fine green trim.

In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites the cup measures 2 3/4 inches tall, 3 3/8 inches across the rim and 1 3/4 inches across the base while the saucer measures 5 1/n inches in diameter.

An addition to any Royal Albert Bone China Cup and Saucer Collection.

You can trace the Ridgway family name back to the very earliest days of the Staffordshire potteries, along with Adams and Wedgwood.

In the 1800’s William and John took over the Cauldon Works, founded by their father Job Ridgway in 1802. John, taking the Cauldon works while William went his own way with the Bell works inherited from uncle George. John Ridgway, was appointed Potter to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, earning a high commendation at the 1851 Exhibition.

However, all these accolades were not enough, and by the 1940’s The Ridgway Pottery was preparing to merger with the Booths & Colclough China Company.

Royal Doulton acquired the two firms in the 1960’s. Some of the brands associated with the Ridgway Pottery / Colclough / Booths are Royal Vale, Royal Stanley, Royal Cauldon, Royal Adderley (floral and Figurine China factory), Royal Semi Porcelain and Portland (tea and dinner ware).

In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites the cup measures 2 3/4 inches high, 3 1/4 inches across the rim and 1 5/8 inches across the base while the saucer measures 5 1/2 inches in diameter.

This beautiful bone china cup and saucer was made by Shelley China Ltd. and is marked: Fine Bone China / Shelley / England / #13616/G.

The original potteries built in 1860 (at the Foley district of Fenton, Staffordshire) by Henry Wileman were named Foley China Works. The first Shelley to join the company was JB Shelley, who started work as a traveling salesperson in 1862. In 1872, JF Wileman and JB Shelley went into partnership to form Wileman & Co. In 1881 Percy Shelley also joined the company. His three sons, Norman, Jack and Bob, joined Shelley in 1918. Bob's two sons, Alan and Donald, also joined the company in 1946.

The Company

The trade name used by Wileman & Co was Foley China. From 1890 to 1910 the name Foley or Foley China, was used in conjunction with the name Wileman & Co. In 1910 the trade name was changed to Shelley, but between 1910 and 1916 the words Late Foley were still being included in the backstamp. This caused confusion because a number of other companies were also using the name Foley, as this was the name of an area that had a lot of potteries.

From 1912 the name Foley was dropped from the backstamps and only Shelley was used. The company name was changed to Shelley in 1925. It became a limited company in 1929. In 1965 the name was changed yet again, this time to Shelley China Ltd.

In 1966 Shelley China Ltd came to an end when it was taken over by Allied English Potteries.

In the Green and Gold Grapes pattern with gold trim on a white background.

In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites the cup measures 2 5/8 inches high, 3 7/8 inches across the rim and 1 7/8 inches across the base while the saucer measures 5 5/8 inches in diameter.

An addition to any Shelley Bone China Cup and Saucer Collection.

SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. Feel free to contact me with any questions and thank you for looking.

This footed cup and saucer in the Priscilla pattern was made by Philip Rosenthal & Co. and is marked: Rosenthal / Selb-Germany / Pompadour / #117.

Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) began business in 1884 by purchasing white ware from Hutschenreuther and selling designs, handpainted by his wife Maria, door to door. In 1891, he established a factory in Asch, Bohemia and began production of white ware for use in his workshop. From 1897 to 1936, Rosenthal acquired factories in Kronach, Marktredwitz, Selb, Waldenburg, Sophienthal, and Waldershof. The popularity of the Maria White and Moss Rose patterns helped the business grow rapidly. By the time of WWII, Rosenthal operated 10 companies and employed over 5,000 people. When the war ended, Rosenthal’s son, Phillip, returned to Germany where he modernized out of date factories and reestablished lost markets. Phillip quickly rebuilt the business by reaching new markets interested in the modern shapes and artistry of his dinnerware. To this day, Rosenthal continues to work with leaders in fashion and design to create unique tabletop designs.

This 13 inch diameter Homer Laughlin China, deviled egg plate is perfect for the holidays with its scarlet red coloring, but because it is not holiday themed, it can easily be used into the New Year and beyond. The raised circular line design in each of the individual egg insets gives this plate that atomic modern look, and the line edging surrounding the rim complements its over-all appearance.

Marked on the backside with H L C for Homer Laughlin China, and USA, this plate is a relatively new production, beginning in 2004 and continuing to the present. Although we do not have the original packaging for this plate, we purchased it at an estate sale and it is in very fine, minimally used, condition.  We are offering a vintage teacup and saucer. The white pieces are decorated with blue flowers, gold flowers, stars, and accents. The cup with an applied loop handle stands 1 1/2 inches tall on a pedestal base and measures 3 1/2 inches in diameter. The matching deep welled saucer measures 5 1/4 inches in diameter. Both pieces are marked with a black beehive and Austria. The set is free from chips, cracks, nicks, or repairs, however the saucer has some crazing. The net weight is 14 ounces.
