An updated and revised edition of this practical guide--the book the author wished he had on hand at the start of his 20 years cleaning and repairing pocket watches Using as examples six of the most typical types of watch from a period spanning the late 18th century to the early 20th century, the author takes the intelligent enthusiast through the cleaning and repair process, step by careful step, using photographs of excellent clarity, and in lucid language, characterized by his own friendly and helpful tone. He aims to equip the reader with a sound basic knowledge not just of the process but also all the tools and materials as well as their sources.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Wristwatches presents all popular and rare watch brands - some of them long since unavailable - from the US, Germany, Japan, and of course from the world's major manufacturer of timepieces: Switzerland. In its technical chapters it explains the highly complex operations underneath the face. The book also tells the fascinating story of the watch, its design and its various forms and designs.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This sumptuous book brings to life the rich past and the landmark creations of one of the world's great watchmakers. Founded in the Swiss city of Geneva in 1755 by the gifted craftsman and businessman Jean-Marc Vacheron, Vacheron Constantin is the oldest watch manufacturer in the world with an uninterrupted history. Its phenomenal rise to an international reputation of the highest standing in turn throws light on the global success of the great Swiss watchmaking tradition. The book traces the principal milestones in the company's history: its founding during the Age of Enlightenment; the successive generations of the Vacheron family; the association in 1819 with Francois Constantin, who opened up the North American market to the company; the transformational relationship with the inventor Georges-Auguste Leschot; and the company's subsequent international recognition and expansion. Through an array of glorious illustrations, it presents Vacheron Constantin's historical collections, while highlighting the creations of the craftsmen who contribute to the technical excellence of its timepieces--the master-watchmakers--and the artisans who transform them into genuine "objets d'art--"the master engravers, "guillocheurs," jewelers and enamelers.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Contains 800 detailed photographs! This fine book covering the story of English horology into the first decade of the 18th century will be welcomed by horologists, for it is written by three acknowledged experts in the fields of clock cases, horological history and clock movements respectively. It is rare that top practical men, who have between them handled thousands of examples and whose joint historical experience stretches well over a century, can be persuaded to provide so lucidly the distillation of their knowledge. The major importance of this book lies in the minute examination of the work and evolution in the thinking of the clockmakers. Some 800 fine photographs (many of them details of the mechanisms), thirty-six colour plates and the careful descriptions provide not only an unrivalled catalogue of the work of the earlier makers, but also place their work within a carefully defined chain of development. By this means the evolution of clocks is made easier to understand while at the same time there is a clear basis for comparing other clocks encountered. Certainly the reader will sharpen his awareness of what to look for in a clock; the odd mark, stopped hole, adapted or married piece will be more readily identified and the clocks previous history thus more readily understood. The book breaks new ground too in the discussion of methods of production, the use of batch production and the degree of uniformity among influential makers. This book is a worthy companion to the other specialist books on horology published by the Antique Collectors Club, and is bound to become the standard work of reference on English horology up to the beginning of the 18th century. This clock was said to require winding only once a year, hence the designation, anniversary. Made in Germany is printed on the white face; two jewels is stamped on the back. This fascinating time piece still works, although it had been retired many years ago. Appears to be brass with a plastic dome. Measures 6 ½ inches tall x about 5 inches across the base, with 3 round feet for leveling. The suspension wire is intact and is currently being locked by a switch under the base. When released the pendulum does float freely, allowing the 4 interior weights to rotate smoothly in a horizontal pattern ticking away the time. There are several scratches on the plastic dome, but from a distance they are not that noticeable. It was bought in 1967, by my mother for an anniversary. It has been in my family since then.

Update: I just found the original envelope # 11003, containing details of sale, foil emblem, instructions, a 2nd key AND an extra suspension wire. White in the center of the blue book is reflection from flash. Book is in good condition; red envelope shows some wear.
