Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. A FORM TOOL GRINDING ATTACHMENT It is beyond the scope of this guide to get into the rather involved process of designing gears - there are several books available from horological book sellers that treat this subject in detail. This guide is about making the form tool you will use to make the gear cutter after you have the gear information you need. It is a lot of fun to see the complex geometry of a wheel or pinion emerge from a piece of steel or brass, especially when you have made your own cutter. Three types of cutters are shown in this guide. This easy to make attachment will allow us to grind any radius and clearance angle we are likely to need on a cutter forming tool made from a 3/16" (0.1875") square high speed steel lathe tool bit. The tool bit is ground on a bench grinder to the approximate shape needed. The grinding attachment is used to finish grind the form tool only. Protect the lathe headstock, bed, and slide rest etc. from grinding grit with clear plastic clinging type food wrap, for example. 2001  Elgin men's watch. Lizard band. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This is a reference intended for those who enjoy the hobby of watch & clock repair. The pin-pallet escapement was invented by Achille Brocot (1817-1878), a very able French clockmaker. Variations of the Brocot escapement are to be found in the clocks of many nations. "Pin-pallet" refers to the semicircular "D" shaped pallets used to convert the rotary motion of the escape wheel into oscillating pendulum or balance wheel motion. Those clocks that are constructed with the escape wheel, bridge, and pallets in plain view in front of the dial are commonly known as "outside" or "visible" escapement clocks. The pin-pallet escapement requires very precise adjustment of its component parts to function properly. This guide was written to help point out the several important details that need to be looked after when repairing or adjusting this type of escapement. It is suggested that the entire guide be reviewed before making any adjustment because it is easy to mistake one symptom for another. Worn pallet anchor and escape wheel pivot holes may be incorrectly diagnosed as a center distance problem, for example.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This is a reference book intended for those who enjoy the hobby of clock & watch repair. This simple and easy-to-make little drill press is designed to drill holes in the .004" to .032" (.1 to .8 mm) range, and also solves two problems common to drilling very small holes - namely, that an ordinary drill press is not sensitive enough for the operator to "feel" the cutting action of the drill. And, that the small drill does not turn fast enough to be as effective as it could be. This drill press is very sensitive, and spins the drill in a range from 12,000 to 30,000 rpm with the recommended power supply. We also show how to make the micro drills, and how to make sure the spindle and drill are as concentric and axially aligned as we can make them. "X" and "Y" slides also provide a means to accurately position the work for drilling. Although this micro drill press is designed with the watch and clock maker, model maker, or other highly skilled artisans needing a way to drill small holes in mind, it can easily be scaled up for larger work. Component sources are also listed. You can make this little gem with a couple of pieces of aluminum bar stock from a hardware store, some 4-40 screws, and a few other off-the-shelf components.  Mantle piece clock in perfect working order. Battery operated.

With over 550 instructional black-and-white illustrations and an approach that assumes no prior watch-repairing experience, this book achieves and surpasses that lofty mission, and has been touted as the best illustrated book on practical horology (Horological Journal) ever written. For the readers in his audience, de Carle has provided well-informed discourse on every topic a watchmaker, or aspiring watchmaker, needs to know. Telechron and General Electric pioneered the application of machine age, art deco styling to clock designs, starting with the Paul Frankl designed Modernique. So impressive are many of the designs that over the years they have been incorrectly attributed to such designers as Gilbert Rohde, Russel Wright, and Rockwell Kent. This book sets the record straight, documenting the designers of some 175 models. Readers are introduced to such long forgotten designers as John Rainbault, Ray Patten, and Ivan Bruce whose work is often credited to the "big-name" designers. Over 700 Telechron and General Electric models produced between 1925 and 1955 are chronicled through over 900 photographs and illustrations, 430 in color. Extensively researched by author Jim Linz, the book even includes production dates and sales figures for many models. A quick reference price guide and index to the models is included as an appendix. Helpful tips for repairing and restoring Telechron and General Electric clocks, including an astonishing method for breathing new life into dead rotors, rounds out the presentation.  Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. OUR NOTES:Vintage and antique clocks are a popular topic with collectors & dealers. We do carry in stock a number of excellent books on antique clocks & pocket watches. However, I believe this book will fill a rather significant void in any collectors library. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only book in print devoted exclusively to the topic of vintage Pendulette clocks, nor do any of the all-in-one clock guides devote significant space to the topic. Pendulette clocks can still be readily found at local estate sales. Sometimes a sharp eye will purchase these clocks inexpensively for resale, since they DO bring good prices at antique shows and on eBay, at prices ranging from $150 - $400 and up! I had the privilege of meeting the authors personally at a recent Kansas estate auction for a notable clock collector; as a consequence I was introduced for the first time to a collecting area I had previously overlooked. This spiral bound book is filled with color photos & detailed descriptions (including values) of these clocks by makers such as Lux, Keebler & Westclox. The book is indexed; it also includes copies of manufacturer catalog sheets, clock molds & other related information. As a layman, I appreciate the background the authors provide on these clocks. As an example, on page 47 they document a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer clock made by Lux. The description includes the name of the original author of the Rudolph story, when it was written (1939), who it was written for (Montgomery Wards), when the actual song was written (1949) and then they also relates to us the story of this song being made popular by Gene Autry, which helps date the production date of the clock. If only all authors were so meticulous! At any rate, we are pleased to make this fine reference available, and expect that this work will be well received by the collecting community. --- John Kincaid, Collector Bookstore
