Many people give coin sets like these as birthday keepsakes for youngsters (or older ‘kids’) who were born in the year the coin was minted or who have another special occasion to commemorate in that year! They’re from a local estate, and though we’re not coin dealers, we’ve described them as best we can – and include pictures to help you judge them. Please feel free to ask if we’ve left something out! The coins have been circulated, so may have a few scratches or light scuffs. We didn’t clean or polish these because many collectors prefer to use their own methods.

The 1982 U.S. Proof Coin Set contains a proof Kennedy half dollar, Washington quarter, Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime and Lincoln one-cent coin produced by the San Francisco Assay Office. These are the only coins to have the ‘S’ mint mark in 1982.

This year’s set also includes a proof medal featuring the Treasury seal and the date 1789 on the obverse and an eagle and the inscription United States Proof Sets on the reverse. The medal was specially designed for the 1982 sets.

Proof coins are struck from specially prepared (non-silver) blanks. Each coin is struck twice with highly polished dies to assure a mirror-like finish, with each coin packaged in the set and bearing the ‘S’ mint mark. The coins are sealed in a newly-designed plastic package which protects and displays the set.

These coins have never been handled or removed from the case. They are sealed in a clear, hard plastic case with a bright red-colored background, and all of that enclosed in the mint’s original decorated box. Condition is AS NEW. (6310)

Many people give these as gifts – here’s something memorable for someone you know was born in 1982 or who’ll be celebrating a birthday in a year ending in ‘2’!

The 1980 Proof Coin Set contains one coin of each denomination: a Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime, Washington quarter, Kennedy half dollar and Susan B. Anthony dollar.

Proof coins are struck from specially prepared (non-silver) blanks. Each coin is struck twice with highly polished dies to assure a mirror-like finish. The San Francisco Assay Office produces and packages the sets, and each coin bears the "S" mint mark. The coins are sealed in a newly-designed plastic package which protects and displays the set.

Many people give these as gifts – here’s something memorable for someone you know was born in 1980 or who’ll be celebrating a birthday in a year ending in ‘0’!

The 1983 U.S. Proof Coin set contains a proof Kennedy half dollar, Washington quarter, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and Lincoln one-cent coin produced by the San Francisco Assay Office. The coins have the 'S' mint mark.

The production of proof coins is a unique operation with special handling being given to both the dies and the blanks. Proof blanks are burnished with thousands of steel beads and cleaning chemicals to buff out imperfections and polish the surface. The polished blanks are then rinsed, dried and transferred to the press room where a final cleaning and inspection is given them by the coin operator before they are struck.

Proof dies are first sandblasted resulting in a frosted appearance and texture to the die's surface. The portrait is then covered with tape and the background is polished with several grades of diamond polish and buffed. When the tape is removed the frosted design against the polished background gives a beautiful two-toned effect to the die which is transferred to the coins when they are individually struck twice. Proof coins are sealed in a clear plastic package to protect their beauty.

These coins have never been handled or removed from the case. They are sealed in a clear, hard plastic case with charcoal-colored background, and all of that enclosed in the mint’s original decorated box. Condition is AS NEW. (6309)

1980 U. S. Proof Coin Set $27.95

1983 U. S. PROOF COIN SET $27.95

The 1984 proof set contains a proof Kennedy half dollar, Washington quarter, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and Lincoln one-cent coin produced by the San Francisco facility of the United States.

These sets have been produced and packaged in San Francisco since 1968. All aspects of production from dies to blanks to the striking and handling of each coin are specially designed to provide the ultimate in quality. Special dies and blanks are used and each coin is struck twice. This results in a coin with a frosted portrait on a mirror-like background. The jewel-like coins are removed from the press by hand and those meeting the high quality standards are sealed into plastic cases.

These coins have never been handled or removed from the case. They are sealed in a clear, hard plastic case with deep burgundy background, and all of that enclosed in the mint’s original decorated box. Condition is AS NEW. (6308)

Many people give these as gifts – here’s something memorable for someone you know who was born in 1984 or who’ll be celebrating a birthday in a year ending in ‘4’!

Unusual Austrian bank note for propaganda purpose by the political opposition party: The front shows a pattern similar the 100 Schilling issue of that time. At the back is explained how bad inflation was in the year of 1953. Fine condition. 1926, quite unusual Certificate of Life Membership for the Altwold Country Club, Woodbury Heights, New Jersey. Issued to Mr. Robert H. Comey (1000 Dollar share). Attached is a letter with the following content:"This life membership may turn out to be of considerable value - due to a very possible division of a balance which should come from a final settlement, after all other habilities are paid off R. H. Coney". Number "1" item. This example of a Large Cent is so heavily worn that the date is not legible. From what details are visible, it appears that this coin is either a Coronet (1816-1839) or possibly a Braided Hair (1840-1857). But it appears from careful analysis that this particular coin only has 13 stars based on the spacing between the ones still visible up the left edge of the coin. There are five stars visible between the bottom of the bust and the tip of the coronet implying that a total of 13 would be correct for this coin. If that is the case, then this coin could only be a rare 1817 Coronet. Another feature that points to a Coronet is that on the reverse, the Words One Cent have obvious spacing between the words and the wreath. In the later Braided Hair Variety, the lettering is heavy and both the top right point of the letter E and the lower curve of the letter C are in contact with the wreath. However, the coronet should have a center dot, and this particular coin doesn't show the dot. Whether it wasn't there to begin with or is just worn from visibility, I can't tell. So, given the diagnostics, this coin is more likely a Coronet than a Braided Hair, but given the poor condition of the obverse of the coin, I can't be certain. And, even though this coin is in poor condition, it is so very rare in all grades so it remains a worthy collectible. Specs: WT: 10.89g; Composition: 100% copper; Diameter: 28mm; smooth edge. Note, 1817 was the only year of the 13 star variety of which this coin appears to be. I plan to try a pencil etching to see if more details can be revealed, and if so, I'll update this description accordingly. minted 6-1-87 by rarities mint co.#9958 .999 fine silver (mib) this is the dwarf happy
