Vintage Hakata Doll Figure of Man sitting holding a cup and separate Saki ? Bottle. This Hakata Doll measures 6 1/8'' tall and 5 1/2'' wide and has the traditional dark colors of green, brown and black. The human detail is incredible. These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has the foil sticker. He is in very good condition with just a tiny glaze pop on the bottom lip and cup. The separate bottle has some glaze chips on the rim, but it is remarkable it has remained with the figure.  Vintage Japan Hakata Figure of an Old Man Sitting Holding An Open Book and Musical ? Instrument. This is in the older darker greens and browns. It has the blue Japan sticker on the bottom. Figure measures 6 1/4'' tall, 5'' wide and 3 3/4'' front to back. There is a small hole punched in the base which does not affect display. A good amount of the green paint (mostly on the backside) has flaked off--but could be touched up if you wished. These old Hakata figures have wonderful, lifelike features giving them personalities of their own.  Small Hakata Doll Figure of a little Girl dressed in her kimono, seated and pouring tea. She has the classic white bisque like finish, hand painted, in a green kimono with white flowers. She measures 5 1/2'' tall. These Hakata Doll Figures have been made for centuries in Japan. They became popular after World War II in the United States when soldiers began bringing them home as souvenirs. She is marked with a Hakata Doll Association, Genuine Hakata Doll, Made in Japan sticker. There is another sticker which has foreign characters. Vintage Hakata Doll Figure of Old Man Holding Fish. He has a small hole in his left hand, so likely he was holding a fishing line in that. This larger Hakata Doll measures 6'' tall and 4 1/2'' wide and has the traditional dark brown colors. The human detail is so realistic.  These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own unique personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveneirs after World War II. This figure has a foil Original Arnart Creation, Japan sticker. Someone punched a hole in the base, but it does not detract from display. There is a little paint rubbing on the backside. This Hakata Doll measures 5 1/2'' tall and 3 3/4'' wide and has the traditional blue. The human detail is so realistic. He has obviously been working hard as his the knees of his pants are rubbd as well as his face. His robe has paint rubbed off the backside, probably from old tape or a sticker. If you are handy with a paint brush, then he could easily be touched up. There is a spot on his sleeve where the black paint has rubbed which you could touch up if you wish. Her right hand has a tiny hole that may have held a needle. Many of these Hakata dolls have small pieces added to the figures which have been lost over time.
